Wooo Sharks! Not sure how the rest of this series will go.

After reading all 24 pages of the comments to the Shea Weber fine on TSN HERE they're pretty much in agreement with what was said here in that the fine was too light. But, from reading the comments from Preds fans or should I say anti-Wings fans it is pretty apparent Zetterberg ran Weber into the boards, elbowed him in the head, elbowed him in the back, foot stomped Weber, butt ended Weber, and slashed his knees.

My only explanation is that Z is a ninja.

The fine is the max they can charge per the CBA. If they could fine what they felt was appropriate I'm sure it would have been 10,000+ easy. Considering they fine Torts 20K for bitching about the pens.

I think Weber should have gotten 1 game, but it is what it is.

I hope Detroit comes out reckless tonight and we make them pay. Its going to be a great game and series marred by Webers temporary Hulk Smash.

Come on Philly steal another from the Pens tonight.

You say 'we' with a Philly avatar. So I know what a Pred Wing is, what is a witty way to refer to a Philly fan transplant in Nashville? 🙂

With that said, go Preds and go Flyers!

It cracked the helmet. So yeah, it was hard enough to break his nose, had he not been wearing a visor.
It's down right stupid that having intent to injury doesn't mean jack crap unless the player on the receiving end gets severly injured.

So if people can pull headshots or knee-on-knees hits that are "soft" then they don't deserve a suspension? What a joke. They want to get serious about taking out these type of cheap shots then suspend based on intent, not on how badly the other player gets injured.

Looks like that $2500 fine has the Predators taking this seriously.

Here is Kostitsyn mocking the head smash:

It takes Weber one 40 second shift to pay off that fine.

Link? I hadn't heard that. If so, then yeah probably a 1 game suspension. As much as I like Weber and the Preds, you still have to play under control, even at the end of games.

So if Z goes down soccer style and waves for the trainer to bring out the magic sponge and magic spray bottle, yet still needs to be carted off the ice on a stretcher and his status is day to day, Weber gets a suspension?

I guess that is the type of behavior the league is endorsing. This is madness!

Funny thing too, everybody is bringing up the fact that if this had been Crosby the penalties would have been different. Well, in Crosby's case with his last time out with a concussion the doctors said that the minor elbow Crosby took in the Winter Classic was cumulative to the final injury he suffered that caused him to go out. So now, if Z gets hit again and goes out with a concussion can anybody say that this hit didn't contribute to the injury?

God in heaven.

Listening to ESPN radio and they just gloss over the NHL playoffs in 30 seconds...and ham it up about it afterwards. There's more chatter about how Josh Hamm of Mad Men fame is a Blues fan than actually breaking down the games like they usually do with every other sport in North America. Now I get to listen to a bunch of crap about the NBA and how Lebron can't and won't win a championship etc etc etc.

It just amazes me how much of the American Sports Radio landscape doesn't give 3 shits about the NHL. Hell, soccer highlights pre-empt any coverage the NHL gets during the regular season.

Time to find the NHL Network on Sirius.

I'm off my soap box. Thank you for letting me get this off my chest.

Yeah it kind of sucks that the NBA is bigger here than NHL. Although, NHL really doesn't help its case with horrible marketing... for example, I was hoping to watch the games streaming since I cancelled cable, but the NHL, in its genius contracting doesn't offer playoff streaming, just game updates. It's completely stupid, at least I can listen to NHL Network on Sirius like you said. But kind of pissed I can't watch the non major network games this year. NHL, give us paid streaming already.

Look guys whats done is done, He got fined no suspension END OF STORY. I as a Nashville fan was expecting a game or two suspension, but ill take the fine and have our star back. Shanahan dropped the ball on this one, so did Weber as a captain he should know better. I would like to see him skate up to Z and apologize, But we will see what the night brings.

This... I did the same thing is was gonna pay to stream the games, but alas no playoff streaming.

He said his helmet was cracked not that Webers blow alone did it. What baffles me is that intelligent hockey people (which I know most of you to be) actually think that what Weber did was probably done with enough force to crack a helmet. Really? Wouldn't we have cracked helmets rolling around on the ice every game? These guys get rammed into the boards repeatedly with much greater force than what happened here.

Like I've said before it was a dumb play and I expected him to be suspended a game. But I also think it looked a lot worse than it really was, especially when you consider everything else that led up to it.

I'm done with this now though, time for game 2 where I expect the wings to tie it up.

Again, how do you know how much force it was? Saying "it wasn't that hard" is just wishful thinking on your part. Most people saw a 6'4" man use both hands and shove pretty forcefully.

This. I don't think it was a light shove; sure looked like it was pretty hard but don't know for sure how hard it was. However, I can almost guarantee that when a players head gets hit, even indirectly, that they or someone else checks the helmet for cracks and such when they get back to the bench. I would doubt that a player would intentionally go back out on the ice with a cracked helmet.

It is 3 to 1 Pens they better come out and kick ass this second period. Please keep Crosby off the PP it is just not working with him. Also philly had 18 hits to pens 13 hits? It seemed like Pens were out hitting Philly way more. This game is intense right now.

They sure are working hard to fuck this game up too. 2 shorthanded goals, wtf is up with that.
