In Painter's defense, he has played very well lately. He is getting no help.

The coaching of this team was exposed long before last year's playoff loss. Try the Super Bowl against New Orleans. People have been calling for Caldwell's head since then (and to a lesser extent, Polian) but the cries are increasing. Polian's recent drafting ineptitude has caught up to the Colts and placed them into a situation where the holes that needed to be filled weren't filled and the depth Polian thought he was building never happened. My god, Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes (2 recent #1 picks) are third or fourth string now. They're that bad!

The fact is, Peyton covered all these issues. No other QB in the league today and maybe none in history could carry a team like he can. If he would've had a good defense surrounding him for most of his career, they would've won 2 or 3 more Super Bowls -- I have no doubt of that.

Brady can, no knock on Peyton, he's awesome but essentially the Pat's 25th ranked D last season should have netted them a 8-8 record not 14-2. Come playoff time last two seasons that got exposed, with zero pass rush and quality D's keeping Brady and the O of the field a lot and below 20 points they lost both times..

I seem to recall the Pats doing just fine without Brady a few years ago.

No offense to Brady, but he just isn't of Manning's caliber. I know many will disagree with that but I've not seen a QB exercise the complete and total command of his offense AND the opposing defense as I've seen Peyton accomplish.

I do find it interesting that once the Pats defense went down the drain and the postseason losses started piling up, the "Manning is a choker" chant from Pats fans has largely stopped because they finally realized that us Colts fans were right all along when we stated that the defense lost games for the Colts, not Manning. Sure, Manning had some bad games in the playoffs but for the most part, the defense cost them the games. Now, they're seeing the exact same thing with the Pats -- their defense is sub-par and loses games for them and Brady can't bail them out like Manning couldn't always bail the Colts defense out.

Sweet god, can we not get ICF started on this again?

Yea, they went 11-5 with a soft schedule, the lost to every quality opponent but managed to beat the 49'rs, Rams, Bills, Arizona ect. D still had quality veterans Harrison, Vrabel, Bruschi, Seymore ect that could actually stop a team on 3rd down and Welker can make a so-so QB look good with his Velcro hands and always being open..

I don't know how anyone can argue now against Manning being the superior QB. Brady going down, and Matt Cassel stepping in and doing just as well - only to be traded and show how truly bad he is in KC. That made things pretty clear.

But now to see how truly bad the Colts are as a team, the exact caliber of team that Manning took to the playoffs year in and year out? Proof positive IMO.

Some people see what they want. I bet you could plug Kyle Orton into the Patriots and they would make the playoffs easily.

As a pure long-ball thrower I'll give the nod to PM but if you saw the Dallas game Sunday with it all on the line Brady was throwing darts out there, 8/9, 80yrd drive in less than 1:30 IMO that's command, it's not like Dallas was respecting the run much either, they knew Brady would be chucking it but couldn't stop him. As for the D, I agree 100% if it's weak it will get exposed in the playoffs..

Both Manning and Brady have had good pass blocking (for the most part) in their careers, when Cassel went to KC, crappy OL, few weapons so yea he looked plain but then again Indy has always had quality at WR, TE over the years, give Orton good blocking Dallas Clark, Harrison, ect. and he does better. Oh and has already stated by ICF the this is not a complete Indy team missing PM, their drafts the past 2 seasons have been crap and it's showing..

I'm hoping the Pats D shapes up this year, because I absolutely agree that shit doesn't fly in the playoffs. I remember watching that winning streak last year and being surprised that the awful D didn't burn them more often. It wasn't for lack of trying.

At least we got ball-hawking Wilfork with 2 picks LOL. They played the theme from "Chariots of Fire" while showing him rumbling during the SD game OMG it was hilarious, he almost had another Sunday but a Dallas lineman swatted it out of his hands just in time, Gillette would have gone apeshit if he did it a third time!..

You're right, let's shift gears to discuss Romo. Maybe the Cowboys should've traded for Palmer instead. :D

You should try listening to Cowherd, he's so pro-Romo it makes me look tame. You won't change my opinion on Brady, period - just like I won't sway you on Manning.

Dallas coach is taking a LOT of heat by not giving his offense a chance to win Sunday, hell, 1 or 2 first downs would have probably iced it, we know Romo's quirky in the 2nd half but giving the ball back to Brady with 2:20 left and 2 timeouts is not a good idea..

which is something that Manning has done throughout his career, and much more frequently than Brady.

I think both are great, with Manning get a huge edge simply due to his overall command of each game that he starts.

these arguments are ridiculous, btw.

These risk-averse coaches really bother me. Watching the Vikings getting steamrolled by the Bears on Sunday, and they call for a field goal on 4th and 2 from the Bears' 18 yard line... wtf? When you're down by as much as the Vikings were at that point in the game, you can't afford to play conservatively. I don't care if it was the second quarter. Of course it wouldn't have mattered even if they had gotten the first down and then got a touchdown on that drive, but still. Boneheaded coaching decision, and one you see every week in the NFL.

You NEVER want to give the ball back to the opponent when they have a couple minutes left in the 4th quarter and you're up by 3 points. Especially if you're playing the Patriots.
