And if the 0-4 vikes is not bad enough the gophers football just was handed a 50-0 loss few nights ago...:\

I take it you are a Gophers fan. What is there problem in your estimation? Does in state talent flee for the bright(er) lights of Madison, Ann Arbor, and Columbus? I would think it is hard to entice recruits to play in a dome (they still play in the MetroDome right?) when compared to other Big Ten atmospheres. Just curious.

The Colts should just throw in the season so they can get the Peyton replacement. But you all know that already.

The Gophers just got a new stadium I think two seasons ago. TCF Bank Stadium, it's smallish but very nice. They played an NFL game there when the Metrodome's roof collapsed.

I don't really know what the problem is with Gophers football. I don't follow college football at all, I only know that the Gophers have sucked pretty much nonstop for the past several years. I mean they lost to some wimpy little state colleges.

the bone-crushing hits part. loving that is akin to loving shitty defense. real tackles are what makes a good defense, praising bone-crushing hits just re-enforces the decline of fundamental skills and the rash of horrific injuries that have become common place in the game over the last decade. (they were always there, actually, we just ignored them, and once those "old timers" hit their 43rd birthday, we just let them die in the rest home, away from the spotlight...).

though, Baltimore is very good at both. Big hits are certainly part of the game, but should never be preferred over playing real defense. it generally leads to bone-headed gaffs by an overzealous defensive player.

and crap: I meant to say jailbreaks on Sanchez--not Flacco. wrong QB, lol

You're looking waaaaaaaaaay too deep into my comment.

Are you telling me you don't get all pumped up when someone gets decleated? Really? Really really?

Also, one can perform both a fundamentally sound tackle and bone-crushing hit at the same time.

Seriously, what in the hell are you talking about?

I think he was just overreacting to your comment. But I do sort of agree with zin that injuries don't get me excited at all. I love seeing good defensive plays, and some of those may involve hitting the offensive player pretty hard, but my enjoyment is not contingent on hard hits. I'd just as soon see a corner wrap a guy up in the open field to prevent a first down conversion, if that's the most effective way to do it.

It's not good for the game if players get injured too much. In the long run, it'll eventually lead to shorter careers, a smaller talent pool, and a whole lot of 40 year olds with permanently high medical bills. It's going to be a rough game no matter what you do, but it's better to keep it from getting out of hand.

Is it just me, or did Painter look a lot better than Kerry "Deer In The Headlights" Collins has last night? He seemed to run the offense well, and a good bit more dynamically than Collins has been able to.

Not bad at all. There may be hope for the Colts yet. Perhaps they aren't so unLUCKy.

And the Vikes won't take him, because their front office is full of morons.

They might. They got Ponder out of desperation last year, but by all accounts he doesn't seem to be starting caliber. Then again, neither does McNabb.

On the other hand, if the Vikings do get the first overall pick, they could always trade it away for a boatload of other picks and build a team around that. Do a reverse of the Herschel Walker trade.

Man, that has to suck to cheer for them. I feel sorry for all Dolphin fans out there.

Not me...they deserve exactly what they get...

Indy looked pathetic last night. It can't be completely blamed on the loss of PM, although he probably could have done better, both with passing and controlling his line, but Painter did what he could...and IMO, he was better than Collins, who has never been all that great.
I think the Colts should just focus on keeping their remaining players healthy, write off this season, and concentrate on next year.

no, I do like a good hit--but it's the ever-increasing emphasis regarding such hits you get from jacked-up commentators and those who are quite stupid-by-virtue of being clocked to the noggin by such hits that is ruining the game.

it's bad because it's highly influential to kids, whose only aspiration is to do the same type of shit on national TV and get the same type of praise.

Things are changing, though--some announcers tend to downplay those, and you do see guys like Collinsworth, while he'll praise a solid, well-executed hit, he'll slam anyone that sets out just to injure someone, especially when they blow a play because they're too stupid to actually try and tackle.

again--a big hit is fine, but to praise it over an effective play is pointless.

One of the Indy front line last night, don't remember his name, made a play where he just stopped the runner, dead. didn't hit him, didn't jar him, just swarmed him and would not let him go anywhere. he did it while standing, too.

"You aren't going anywhere, bitch!" is far more impressive than "OMG he wrung his bell! (good thing he didn't miss by an inch! ^_^)"

The Colts are sitting at 3-1 if Manning is playing. I think they still would've lost to Houston (it would've been closer though) and they would've beaten Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa.

I don't think they looked that pathetic last night to be honest. They were playing one of the better teams (allegedly) in the league and just were just worn down in the second half. Painter definitely played better than Collins and I think they need to start him going forward.
