If Aikman says the refs fucked up, the refs fucked up. There is no NFL broadcaster that calls it as well as he does. It's a total shame he has to share a booth with Joe Buck.

Oh, I think he was right, of course. It's still odd seeing such a blatant officiating call-out from the broadcasters. :D

And what's wrong with Joe Buck? I think he's pretty awesome. Way better than his baseball cohort McCarver, at least.

Was Aikman paying attention? I'm listening to the game on the radio too & they were saying "Are the Eagles asleep? The play clock is running. They have 15 seconds and they're not moving. They're going to end up with a penalty. 10 9 8 7.. Oh my Reid is a seasoned coach. He should know better than that."

edit: and if the Eagles lose by less than 4, everyone will be 2nd guessing that play. But, what if the Skins stopped them?

God I hate Derek Anderson. He wasn't good enough for the browns yet the cardinals still picked him up

Fix just had a guy comment on what happened, the former head of officiating. That guy said it was all on the Eagles and explained it.

the officials moved the ball back after the TO. Reid had every reason to ask about this, and yet the officials kept the clock running after this non-review adjustment to the spot of the ball.

that is totally fucked-up.

See Zinfamous' post. The ball was re-spotted following the TO/review. Reid was getting an explanation from the ref and they wound the clock.

The refs weren't even in place to run a play, let alone wind the play clock. It was strange and a complete mistake.

Joe Buck just comes off as a total douche. A sportscaster who really doesn't know what he's talking about. It's kind of like if they were to put me in the booth - I watch football and baseball, but never played either and would just come off as a disconnected asshole.

If they could somehow get Aikman, Tirico, and Jaws on the same broadcast team I would watch them even if they only covered Raiders games.

McCarver's pretty bad too, though. Basically when Fox is covering the Phillies, I mute it and find a radio stream. It's a shame that Kalas is gone, though. Buck/McCarver might be better than Wheels/McCarthy/Sarge.

Basically, Reid had to call a timeout because he was wondering why they moved the ball back. And the officials took forever to review a play that shouldn't have. And then while Reid was calling the timeout because he couldn't call a play while the play was under review, the play clock kept running and the officials just plain fucked up.

Oh yeah, I can see that. I'd be a horrible broadcaster for the same reason. I think it's why just about everyone hates that uber-nerdy NFL analyst that they've had on ESPN for some time (can't remember his name, not sure if he's still around?)

But it's plainly obvious that he's never played a down of football in his life, and I remember him getting involved in rather heated on-air arguments with other TV personalities, who were ex-football players, and would do nothing but groan and roll their eyes whenever he started speaking about numbers and skill.

Much like the ire that Bill James has attracted with his numbers-only approach to everything baseball.

I wish Peyton could score some points for my fantasy team. Also the eagles aren't playing well. I hate Kolb >_<

And as I type this interception from McNabb not bad lets hope the Eagles have a stellar second half.

Clayton? Yeah, he just looks like a guy that nobody likes. I tend to agree with him a lot, but again, its like putting me in the booth. Whether or not I'm right, I'm some asshole who drinks beer and watches football. I have no credibility, and neither do these other guys that haven't played.

Funny thing is, being a former player doesn't qualify most of these guys to speak intelligently about anything. Most of the ex-NFL players are just morons on air who have either lost touch with the game or have taken one too many blows to the head. Aikman is basically the best of them. Even Jaws can be a moron fairly often.

Well, good thing Sav Rocca can still flip the field. Apparently an INT isn't enough. Andy Reid won't call a run.

too true. Why guys like Michael Irving and Lawrence Taylor have been allowed to roam free, out of prison for so long, is beyond me. complete idiots. criminals, to boot.
Most of the athlete intelligence is reserved for the QB position, anyway.
