As I said, we shall see. Our running game is extremely solid and Brees came from cold weather. If the offenses are even remotely equal in the weather I think our defense gives us the advantage.

But you are kinda proving my point, you are saying the weather and not the teams will be the determining factor. Not really the best way to prove who is the best team in my opinion.

The best team is the team that can play in the elements. And football is made for the outdoors.

No rumors yet on who replaces the Polians for the Colts. I read something interesting this morning -- there is a third Polian who works for the Colts who was not fired. You can bet he'll be gone soon. I think the Polians will end up in St. Louis or Oakland. Bill can definitely turn those teams around but if Chris is involved, they're screwed.

How's that news? 😛 The Chargers strong finish and Rivers' endorsement of Turner is not in their best interests. Still they're the cream of the AFC West and really should win that division every year.

And yet, they've lost it to bad/mediocre teams two years in a row. If that won't get Norv fired (you're right that they're obviously the best in terms of talent), when will he get fired?

it a ploy for Dean spanos to piss off the fans, and have the chargers move to LA in 2013 with a new stadium.

So Turner's basically the Jack Del Rio of the left coast? It's not just talent per se, I don't follow the division that closely. But the Raiders are still the retarded Raiders and it was hilarious to watch Hue Jackson toss his entire team and the organization (above him) under the bus. The Broncos might have a future.. if they find a QB?

The stadium issue is an absolute mess, I don't see a new one actually opening for 10 years and it actually only gets more difficult cost-wise as time passes. The Coliseum seems to be unviable with fraud and mismanagement. Neither it or the venerable Rose Bowl is really a modern NFL venue, even with massive improvements.

The Vikings promoted Vice President of Player Personnel Rick Spielman to a full General Manager. Plenty of fans are unhappy about this and would rather see Spielman (or coach Leslie Frazier, or both) fired, but at the very least this will answer questions of who has authority over decisions. A lot of the Vikings' decisions in the past two seasons (especially trading for and then cutting Randy Moss, and bringing in Donovan McNabb) have been questionable but no one really knows who was in charge of them.

I can only hope that a strong draft (possibly some trading down, depending on what kind of offers are available) and some aggressive cutting and free agent signings can help turn the team around a bit. I understand there are a fair number of good WRs entering free agency this year, and that's a big need for the team in addition to defensive backs, offensive line, and linebackers.

Since Jack got canned, I am officially renaming Norval Turner to Norv Il Sung Turner, since he seems to be their "Eternal Coach."

It'll just take some time. Jack Del Rio's Jaguars missed the playoffs four straight seasons before he was fired. The Chargers under Norv have only missed twice in a row now.

Expect a mid-season firing next year if the Chargers aren't raping and pillaging the rest of the AFC West.

Yeah, I mean, it's his legacy and all....but man, one big hit and that could be it. Plus, Andrew Luck.

I don't really follow non-SEC football. Why is everyone so big on Luck when RG3 would seem to be (to me anyway) the better athlete? Griffin seems like he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder from what I've seen of him, but what is it that Luck does so well?

Luck is a prototypical NFL pocket passer, whereas Griffin is more like Vick. Which will be better? I'm not sure, but I'd take prototypical NFL QB over another athletic QB. Most athletic QBs (Cunningham, Vick, Vince Young, Kordell Stewart, insert others) have careers ranging from disappointing to decent, but usually don't have stellar careers. Elway and Steve Young were probably the exception.

Many people seem big on the Houston QB as well -- what's his name, Keenum? He has apparently set many records so many think he is a "great" prospect. However, I'd caution those people to look at a few other record-breaking QBs (Ty Detmer, Andre Ware, David Klinger) before annointing Keenum based on that criteria alone.

Ok, I read it. He has some good points, but I disagree with his premise about Indianapolis not being a football city. I very much guarantee that Indy is crazy about the Colts and Irsay's action so far has made a lot of people happy. I wish he could've kept Bill Polian and fired Chris -- the rumor is that he tried to do just that but Bill refused to fire Chris so Irsay canned them both.

All this hinges on who Irsay hires to run the team. And NO, Cowher, Gruden, or Fisher should NOT be given the coaching and GM titles. That has never worked in the modern NFL and won't work. I was kind of hoping that Irsay would hire Spags as DC and Norv Turner as OC, but that won't happen (damn it, Turner didn't get fired!!). I think the likely scenario is that he goes after the #2 man in a successful franchise and gives him the authority to build the team from here on out.

Also, I know Whitlock mentioned it, but I will reiterate it. Jim Irsay is nothing like his dad Bob. Bob was a drunken tool with a volcanic temper who micromanaged the team and even ordered coaches who to play. Jim is laid back, cool, and is one of the best owners in the league today.
