That illegal formation penalty seems so easy to abuse.

You're down and your throw a long pass to set up a game-winning FG with a few seconds left. There's barely any time left. Definitely not enough to get all 11 people up there to get set for a spike.

All you need to do is get your 2 downfield receivers up to the new line. Everyone stays still and those 2 guys snap it to each other while the other 9 guys stay perfectly motionless. It's an illegal formation penalty since there's only 1 guy on the line. But since everyone is not moving, there's no false start and no runoff. Take the 5 yards and kick the FG. The whole thing saves ~15 seconds in exchange for 5 yards.

I can't believe the Cards pulled it off. They really should be tanking games since they need a new QB so badly. Getting 5 wins means they might miss out on all 3 of the top prospects in the coming draft.

Wait. They might cancel Minnesota @ Philly due to weather?
That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.
Since when does the NFL cancel games for anything other than lightning?

that illegal formation was BS. never heard before that there were qualifiers as to when the 10 second runoff does and does not occur.

I have tickets for the Eagles/Vikings game tonight, but it looks like good ol' Philly is going to get whomped with snow all day and right into the game. Was going with my Dad and we decided that driving in Philly is bad enough when the weather is nice, let alone when it's snowing. We're staying in and cracking open a few beers instead. 🙂
