Maddon finally outsmarted himself by starting Hellickson last night. Peralta & Rodney put the final nails in their coffin when they did the Wild Thing.

See ya, Trop.

While I would've started Cobb instead, we still got through 6 innings of shutout ball thanks to Maddon's pitching changes. The lack of offense was more of a nail in the coffin than the wild pitches. However, I'm not able to convince you or Acheron that the Rays are actually a decent team.

On to other news, Joe Girardi re-signs for 4 more years

Awesome! The Rays can move on to the ALGT6IOSOBS*, Boston will move on to the ALCS.

The Ray's are a fine club and I don't know how you could have started Cobb since he pitched the previous night. The problem the Rays have is lack of fan support, I doubt they will be able to afford David Price's free agent $$, as a Sox fan I'm just glad we didn't have to face him twice in the series, beating him 2 times is a tall task, he truly is a gifted lefty..

So disappointed to see the Pirates get eliminated. I'm so tired of the Cardinals. It would have been fun to see the Pirates make it to the world series. ah well..

Go Dodgers I guess. lol

I got to say I thought I would never see the Pirates get to the playoffs ever under the current owners. I thought they would have to move the team out and start all over fresh. I'm proud of the Pirates and next year is going to even be better. These guys are hungry and adding some better hitting would put them over the top. I'd like to see them upgrade at SS with a pure hitter. Also they need to make Walker the lead off hitter. He can extend batting for deep pitch counts, he was doing it all playoffs long. Marte is more of a power hitter and he pretty much failed during the playoffs as the lead off hitter.

Benoit wow how can Leyland stick to this guy... Well i hope they can beat the Red Sox.

You never had to deal with Valverde. He created a lot more stress than Benoit.

The As fans fans were quite shitty. They remind me of Yankee fans. Verlander even made a comment during the post game while on the field. They announced him as the winning pitcher and there is no reaction. He said (stopping the interview) "I was expecting them to boo me." I will say that, in Detroit, we cheer.

Baseball is a sport rigged against teams like the the A's. The fact that Tamba Bay and Oakland are even in the playoffs is a testament to their organizations strengths. If the A's ever move to situation where they can increase payroll or were forced to be sold to an owner willing to spend some bucks, they would be one of the best teams every year.

Also batting average is pretty silly stat to be quoting as the reason the A's won't win. Everyone knows this.
explain to me now that batting avg is a "silly" stat. You need some good batters to overcome Detroit's 2 aces in a short series.

No way I'll root for an AL team and to hell with the Cardinals. Go Dodgers! I hope Puig goes nuts or something. If the Dodgers make it to the series I hope those dopes at Fox let Scully work the games but that won't happen because fox sucks.

And, before that it was Rodney before he got his shit together and before that it was Todd "Roller Coaster" Jones. We in Detroit just aren't happy unless our closers give out walks and allow hits so as to just barely eek out wins. They usually hand out Xanax in the stands before the 9th.

Hell of a game by Sanchez so far, keeping the Red Sox hitters guessing, 8K's and zero hits allowed so far, 0-0 tie in the 6th..

You cheer for the opposing pitchers? The A's have some of the most dedicated fans in sports. There aren't a ton of them, but other teams wish they had fans like the A's. Lets talk about detroit fans. Half the stadium left when they were losing by 3 runs. That is fucking sad, even the announcers were in disbelief. Enjoy getting swept in the WS again, this time by the Cardinals.

Oaklands large field, coastal air and extreme foul territory severely impact their home batting averages. Not to mention that batting average is an old school stat that is fairly inaccurate at predicting hitting ability. Anything else I can explain to you that you could easily google?

Good game.. A lot of tense moments.. Joe West was inconsistent for both teams

Scherzer and Verlander in games 2 and 3?

Hell yeah we cheer for the opposing pitcher. If someone puts forth an effort and does well there will be cheers.

Regarding your last sentence, you sound like the type of As fan who was booing. Being swept in the World Series is better than losing in the ALDS.

That's putting it mildly, Joe West once remarked after a Yankee-Sox game took 4 hrs "an embarrassment to the sport", he does not like teams that grind out AB's (Red Sox) and made some really bad calls, the worst was on Elesbury where the ball was clearly 3+ inches below his knees denying him a walk. I'm not saying West cost us the game, Sanchez was electric and had all of his pitches working, kept the Sox off-balance, they could never figure out what pitch he was going to throw next, it's just that when you've got an ump that's gave him a strike-zone that big it made it a lot easier for Sanchez to get those check-swing K's. If your at the plate and you've got it in the back of your mind that almost any pitch will be a called strike you have a tendency to get defensive swings..
