Lackey with a gem last night secures a post season spot for Boston. Sweet!

October rotation in no set order;
-Buchholz
-Lackey
-Peavy
-Lester

That's a great starting rotation, Boston will be tough to beat this year.

In addition, they know how to win by different means. Power baseball with HRs or small baseball with steals and bunts. Your ex-Philly Victorino has done great there.

I did, however, find it hilarious that some fans up here have moved the goalposts and now say "World Series or bust". Some people are just appreciative of how hard this team is working.

Breslow and Uehara have been lights out for the bullpen coming down the stretch. A few more solid arms (Doubront, Dempster, Morales) out there will be huge.

Pink hats...

This group is 180 degrees from last year's clown shoes brigade. They bust ass every game and seem to care for each other. It's been fun to watch.

Colby Rasmus gets hit by a thrown ball before the game tonight. Reaction from the guy in the back is chilling.

I'd make a case for Lackey vs Peavy, he had a terrific season, wound up with a 10-12 record that could have easily have been a 15-9 season with better run support.

Who threw that?

Yeah I like this boston bunch, esp Pedroia and Victorino and Ellsbury and Napoli and Nava and Ortiz. A lot of balls in that lineup.

From espn.

Moments after Lester used 10 pitches to set down the Blue Jays in order in the top of the first, Toronto center fielder Colby Rasmus couldn't even make it to his position for the bottom half before a ball thrown his way from the bullpen struck the unsuspecting Rasmus in the head, forcing him from the game.

Oh ok, I thought a fan had thrown it onto the field at Rasmus!

The Pittsburgh Pirates are playoff bound. When was the last time you heard that?! How 'bout that! I'm happy for their long time fans who waited for what seems like an eternity for a taste of the postseason.

Reds are also in after they beat my stanky Mets tonight. The NL Central title is still up for grabs. Three way tie still possible!

Rays really lucked out yesterday. The O's 2nd baseman (Casilla?) made a great catch that would've ended the inning with 0 runs instead of 2, but only dropped it after hitting his teammate.

They really needed the win just to stay ahead of the Indians and Rangers. And now 3 games against the Yankees.

Awesome game last night just as cubes tied it up Marte blasts a HR in the 9th inning.

This guy better win MVP

Rays nearly blew it. Now they have to work harder just to stay alive. I really which rays team will show up for the tiebreaker and, if lucky, the wild card against two hot teams.

I am glad to see the Pirates in the playoffs again. I was a fan of the late 80's and early 90's teams. They had some good teams with players like Andy Van Slyke, Sid Bream, Bonilla/Bonds, Drabek, .etc.

Well, MLB got exactly what they wanted with this new format - a tie for the right to go to the play-in game. When they went to this format last year I thought it was monumentally stupid. But now I'm pretty excited.

It's still stupid, the wild card is a 50/50 crapshoot. But a sensible 3-game wild card series would cause some scheduling issues. The division winners would sit around for a week, good or bad? I tend to think rust.

Under the old format, the Red Sox would already be locked into a best of 5 vs. Terry Francona's Indians! As it stands, we'll have to wait for a couple "play-in" games to see if that headline is written.

Cards won the division, ya, way to go.

Rangers surely know how to fight until the end. Good luck to the 1 game playoff.

My dream scenario is TB making the real playoffs, beating the redsox and then having to come to oakland to play the A's.
