Bah Darvish is on the DL as well now. We're down to just 1 veteran starter now (Holland who came up in 2009)

On a side note, I read somewhere that some team complained about how the Rangers have been using their DL to reset under performing players. Possible investigation coming into it

Why not just send them down if they're underperforming? Not sure what advantage you would gain by doing that, they still take up a spot on the roster.

I thought putting them on the DL allows the team to bring up someone from the minors? Or there's the issue with minor league options.

Adding a player to the DL does free up a spot on the 25-man roster. There are a lot more rules/restrictions when sending a player down.

Absolutely lovely story about the life and times of the late, ephemerably great Johnny Callison.

It will be of special interest to any Phillies fan, especially those of a "certain age," but is well worth savoring slowly and in its entirety by anyone who truly thinks of themselves as a baseball fan.

As an article, I give it 10 on a scale of 10.

That is lame. GAS disorder (General Arm Shittiness) has been a classic pitcher injury for the entire history of baseball!

man come on Philly, going to lose a series to the Mets while the Nats are getting their clocks cleaned in a sweep to LA. Not a great start after the AS Break, assuming they don't recover from down 5-0 in the 9th.

After being fed a steady diet of last place teams, the upcoming series against the Red Sox will be the true test to see if the Rays are for real.

As much as I am convinced Braun used ped's and was continuing to use ped's after he beat the rap, I think what Selig did was bull. I also think that eventually the courts or arbitration will be decided in Brauns favor. There is no real evidence against him this time and Selig is doing this because he knows he is leaving as commissioner and wants to look tough before he goes. The next commish is going to be left with the fallout.
