really? Braun settled a deal with the commish's office to just get suspended for the season. They likely could have pushed for a 100 game suspension instead.

I didn't know he agreed to it.
I don't know what they have on him, but from what I have read they just have players name on a list or that they visited the clinic which wasn't against the rules at the time.

Fuck Ryan Braun. He beat his last test on a technicality and dragged a bunch of people through the mud with him. I can appreciate a standard of proof, but he went above and beyond in smearing the guy who handled his sample in the media. You know, the guy that probably needs the paycheck and probably didn't do anything wrong. He got off easy, suspended the remainder of the season on a team that wasn't winning anything this year. It'd be a better sport if him and everyone like him never got to play again.

Good job baseball, keep protecting your stars, show kids that you can cheat and basically get a slap on the wrist. Let's ban someone for doing something AFTER they played the game but let people keep playing that cheating WHILE playing the game.

I don't think anyone will disagree that the penalties need to be harsher. But it's still a huge catch for MLB and good for the sport to actively persecute cockroaches like braun. It still adds the appearance that MLB is capable of catching some of these morons, whether true or not (i.e. due to braun/manny/cabrera's stupidity or was it due to actual testing methods).

Because MLB is much more popular than the NBA. Cycling, the americans involved were champions of the world (armstrong/hamilton/landis).
 
One of the comments after the article said it's a rule that if you step out of the box while the pitch is being delivered, and the pitch is then legally delivered, it is an automatic strike.

If that's true, then the whole outburst boils down to Ortiz not knowing the rules.
 
I'm watching Tim Lincecum pitch for the first time since he fell off of the cliff baseball-wise, and there's no longer a doubt in my mind: The guy was juicing big-time.

I'm not convinced. He was named the freak in large part due to his pitching mechanics. Those mechanics were simply not sustainable for long periods of time and he payed the price with a short, but insanely awesome, career.

Lincecum is a little guy, he was producing his power and ability to strike people out with tons of body movement and using his elbow like a sling. Insanely effective, but not something he could sustain for too long.

Watch Chris Sale pitch and you'll see the same thing. It don't know how his arm doesn't fall off past his elbow.

The fact that his velocity drop occurred almost overnight is also a suspicious factor imo.

Lots of guys losing pitching velocity, Linecum is not the first one. Lincecum has something off in his mechanic and a small change in arm angle or pitch angle, tips off the batter. They don't chase his pitches anymore and sit on his pitches especially if the fastball is slower now. It's been noted Linceum arm angle and pitch path was changed in scouting reports.

PEDs users don't have a body type. Think Paul Byrd, Randy Velarde, or Andy Pettite. They don't all look like McGwire or Canseco.

He's had a gradual velocity decrease since his rookie season when he threw in teh mid 90s, and he was dominating the league even throwing in the low 90s in his 2nd Cy Young campaign.

The more obvious answer would be that his motion requires incredible flexibility, and as you age, that's one of the first things to go. So no, you don't really have any idea what you're talking about.

I'm an A's fan, but what about Bartolo Colon. Only 40 years old, already suspended 2 years ago, on the Biogenesis investigation list, and currently tied for the league lead in W's. Still plenty of games left to be played, but the A's are looking solid to repeat as division champs partly on the back of a known PEDs user pitching as well as he's pitched in nearly a decade? Hmmmm.

I'm glad some are getting caught and punished, but unfortunately it seems to be a never-ending battle of keeping up with the Joneses (cheaters). I don't mean to imply let them cheat; but rather the Yankees were stupid enough to give A-Rod the huge lifetime extension. A lifetime ban would mostly mean MLB letting the Yankees off the hook more than anything else. A-Rod is financially set whether he gets the rest of his contract and it's pretty clear his baseball career is near rock-bottom, suspension or not.

Note I don't hate the Yankees, but they should live with their decisions. Same as the Rangers overpaying A-Rod by 8 figures, then paying the Yanks to take him off their hands. At this point, a lifetime ban for A-Fraud is essentially a bail-out for the Yankees. 😉

I'm glad the Red Sox didn't wind up with him, they were vying for him along with the Yankees at the time. As for the cheaters they will have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives, look at Clemens, would have been a shoe-in for the HOF but with all the ugliness that happened at the end of his career who knows what will happen. People could tell by the strange looking heads of a 'roided player, Mark McGuire, another one, Manny Ramirez, caught more than once. Thing is Manny was a gifted hitter who worked countless hours at honing his skill and he didn't need steroids to be a HOF entry but now, once again, who knows.

Maybe I do and maybe I don't, so I did some digging.

Seems he lost some velocity on his fastball after the 2011 season:

It seems he also lost some 22 pounds between the 2011 and 2012 seasons, due to "weight loss workouts" and "avoiding fast food".
