Overall, I'm quite pleased.
Forza is finally getting a full Forza of content, and while I've been overly critical of Turn 10 (and I'll rail on the next exorbitant Seas/Car Pass as well), it's because I honestly need those 26 tracks to stay engaged. I just got so bored of the redundant driving of only a few tracks in a given championship in Forza 5. I complained about car count because even with all of the cool tech added, it still kind of sucks to have options taken from you.
Halo, I'm in. Just shut up and give it to me already, I don't need hyped anymore than I already am. The Gears remake is a monumental joke, IMO. I mean, they can't seriously charge us more than $20 for a 9-year-old remake of a single game, after they gave us four Halo games for $60, right? If it's over $20, they're idiots. I'm so disappointed in the lack of GoW 2 and 3 (and I'd like Judgment just because I never played it, even if it sucked) that I wasn't even feeling the Gears 4 (how can it NOT be Gears of Four though?) stuff.
Rare did the exact opposite of Black Tusk/The Coalition/Pigeonholed Studios, giving us a bunch of games for a great price, though. I want Rare Replay, getting it at launch. Just Banjo and Viva would warrant a $30 purchase from me, and I might never touch the other games. EA Access is also into "must-buy" territory as well, now that Titanfall and Inquisition are in The Vault. The only thing is, do you get to play Vault games' DLC with Access, or will we need to buy the DA add-on separately? I assume the latter, but thought I'd ask. I'll be hitting up that free week of EA Access for some Madden, and I might try the Gears beta just because, even though I doubt they can convince me to buy that overpriced, underdelivered remake.
There are two things that really fell flat with me for Microsoft, though:
1. The indie stuff, I just can't be asked to care. Game Preview is a step up from Kickstarter and Greenlight, thanks to the free demo option, but it's still expecting people to buy games with no real promise/guarantee of long-term completion or quality. It irritates me to no end. On top of it, the indie games just didn't seem interesting to me.
2. purbeast0 complained about the lack of new IP, but to me, there was enough. The problem is that I didn't care. Recore, we got no info on it, so what's there to like or dislike? Sea of Thieves, kind of the same thing. Gigantic looked like it would fit into the Battlecry vein of hectic, third-person combat, and I just go back to TF2, if I want that. I can't say 3 exclusive, new IPs is anywhere far from enough content, but none of it was interesting. I honestly wouldn't have minded if they retired Fable and Gears last generation, and given us new TPS and fantasy action IPs, rather than drag them here to avoid any risk.
Gamescom might save us, though. At least we have Scalebound and Quantum Break (both of which looked cooler than any of these new IPs) in the pipeline, we know.
