The Best is Yet to Come?

While on the subject of MGS4 music: I noticed that the first song in the final boss battle, Encounter from MGS1, the song when you get caught by guards, has been slightly remixed with new instruments. Any idea if there's a place to obtain it?

Nobody's talking about the MGS database? :O

Maybe it needs its own thread...

I downloaded it last night, but didn't have time to take a look at it yet.

At Act 4 now. The game has gotten better each act. Easily one of the 10 best games I've played. It would take a disastrous decline in quality at this point for the game to not be mind-blowingly brilliant.

I might have to try GTA4 after this for comparison. I find it unlikely it's anywhere near as good, but I also didn't think MGS4 would be this good, so there you go.

I actually found this game in the rental store, so that saves me a bit of money from buying it. I've played up until a little past meeting Drebin for the first time, so far I'm pretty meh on it. I really wish the triangle button was a bit more responsive in sticking to walls, but other than that, it's merely OK so far. I'm sure it gets better, though.

just finished the game in about 18.5 hours on the second easiest setting (think it is Naked Snake or something like that). Got a Hyena medal or whatever that is.

This game is by far the best game I have ever played. It is going to take a lot to top this in the near future.

I'm definitely going to playthrough again on harder difficulties.

Alright, I just finished a play-through of the game on the easiest setting, Liquid Easy. I skipped every single skippable cutscene and Codec call.

Total time for game? 3 Hours, 47 minutes.

The first time I played the game, on Solid Normal, I finished in just around 24 hours. That's with watching and listening to everything.

So 3 hrs, 47 mins is a ridiculously small amount of game play time. Even a 'short' game like COD4 on Recruit difficulty takes longer than MGS4.

Now that is just ridiculous. Is it possible to beat the game skipping cutscenes on the easiest level very quickly... yes.

But that means you don't explore ANYTHING at all and what fun is that. If you don't RUSH through the game there is probably at least 10-11 hours of solid gameplay if not more. Plus going through a second/third time to pick up weapons and badges is even better.

I'm guessing that I'm about halfway through the second act, and I'm still just meh on the game so far. However, I can see why people love it, I guess it's just not my type of game. I loved watching my brother go through the first Metal Gear Solid, and I enjoyed playing through MGS2 even though I didn't understand any of it :). Never played MGS3, but read up on the story of it.

At this point, it's like all the gameplay is basically the same over and over, but luckily the story is varied enough to keep you guessing. I wish I could just watch a movie of the game and not have to play any of it.

Just beat it. 98/100 is my rating for the game, and I don't rate games that high. Ever.

One question. Did anyone notice random artifacting in the cutscenes? Especially on snake's octocamo suit. It flashed yellow and negative for brief moments throughout the game.

That's a fairly high score for such a short game.

I only noticed poor framerates during some of the cutscenes. The game portions played fine except for the stair-stepping on edges. The cutting edge game had some of the worst looking 'fire' I've ever seen in a new game.

Same here. I'm just waiting for some to edit out the cutscreens from the game and put it all together and up it somewhere to view. I really enjoyed the special DVD with MGS3, but never got into the game after Twins Snake on the GC.

adairusmc--you might want to edit your post there. Might be considered a monolithic spoiler by some.

What PS3 do you all have (that didn't see any artifacts or anything)?

I have a 20GB, so it has the older and larger CPUs. But all the GPUs are the same, aren't they?

I've got the same older model, but with the 60GB drive.

Did you notice any artifacting/yellow flashes on the camo suit (or any other place)?

Anyone else like me and feel like Snake's voice in this game seems completely out of place and horribly played? I don't ever remember having a problem with the David Hayter voice before, but the tonality and overall voice work just seems way off in way too many places. Also, it's obvious in lots of points that the voice actors recorded these conversations in separate pieces without ever being in the same room together.

Yes. I thought his voice was annoying, raspy and too old. Ya, he's dying, but this is make-believe, we can do better:).
