So what builds are people using?

Right now I'm playing a Vanguard. I intend on the following
max shockwave - area effect
max charge - heavy damage
pull - 1 point
max incendiary
max passive power

And I haven't really had a chance to compare bonus skills....though I did just accidentally purchase Zaeed's, 'cause I didn't really know what I was doing. Oh well, should be useful anyway.

I did similar on my first playthrough.

Vangaurd I did max on charge (heavy), and max on shockwarve (area) just as you did.

I did max on assault mastery (champion).

My remaining 10 points and put 2 on pull, and I put 2 points on both incendiary and cold ammo. I used one point for my trained talen that I got at the end so did not use :).

Just beat it...36 hours.

Loved nearly every minute of the game, but the last boss and ending were a little too abupt IMO. Then again, Im now apparently free to explore the galaxy, so perhaps theres more.

Scanned every planet I knew of, even the 4 maps...unless there's more than 4 maps to buy, I've done 100% of everything. Yet my character still is only lvl 27....guess I gotta wait for DLC to get to lvl 30, or do it on my second playthrough?

Went full paragon....looking forward to full renegade. Gonna wait for some DLC, for the tank at the very least.

I'm pretty sure if you do 100% of the game you get to level 30. At least I did. You must have missed some stuff along the way?

I don't think that is necessarily true and depends on whether or not you import and what level your ME1 character was. I believe you start at a higher level depending on the level of your imported character. I finished the game around level 26 or 27 and I did absolutely everything I could find along the way, revisiting places several times to make sure I didn't miss any new opportunities.

Ah, good points there. I didn't even think about that.

Yeah, I imported a level 60 ME1 character, so that makes sense.

Yeah, my import was 40-50 something. Positive I did everything experience gaining...I certainly didn't miss the thousands of points needed to get to 30.

What is the max reward you can get from importing a level 60? My level 59 started at level 3 with a boost to Paragon and Renegade, and he started with like 100k+ credits and a good chunk of resources (10k+ of each I think?).

Q: anybody knows what happens when you import your ME2 character on the hardest difficulty? Will I start with the upgrades, weapons, and level I had so I just have a little more to go?

AFAIK, difficulty isn't a factor for when you're importing. It's only name, gender, level and a few story choices from ME1. My imported char finished ME1 on Insane, and I didn't see that being given any sort of reward.

These are the import bonuses according to the Giant Bomb Megaguide (may be incorrect, I haven't checked myself and can't find any other info):

# Level 50 character:
- 3000XP (start at level 4)
- 40000 Credits
- 5000 Element Zero
- 5000 Iridium
- 5000 Platinum
- 5000 Palladium
# Level 60 character:
- 4000 XP (start at level 5)
- 50000 Credits
- 10000 Element Zero
- 10000 Iridium
- 10000 Platinum
- 10000 Palladium

Also, to answer gorcorps question:

* Long Service (completed 2 runs of ME2 or 1 run of ME1+ME2:
- 25% Experience Bonus
- 200000 Credits
- 50000 Element Zero
- 50000 Iridium
- 50000 Platinum
- 50000 Palladium

* New Game+:
- Retain your level, all the Heavy Weapons you researched, your bonus weapon talent, and some of the weapons you found. You lose all your research and minerals.
- You get to choose your bonus skill right from the beginning based on the loyalty achievements you have.

A percentage of your Paragon and Renegade points carry over. A full paragon or renegade meter will net you 190 points for the respective meter- which is almost nothing in ME2's scale, but it still helps.

R Nilla, that chart you posted isn't true. My level 59 Shepard started out at level 3 and had more than 50,000 credits.

I thought BioWare stated that ME2 wouldn't have a New Game+ option?

:hmm:

I imported a level 50 character and I don't remember starting off at level 4. Is that only if you stick with the same class? I do remember getting the extra minerals and credits though.

You do however get to change who died in ME1 and who became the counsil member. I chose the opposite of what I did in the first playthrough just to change things up.

I played Vet the first go round and now hardcore. Hardcore is much harder than Vet.

I think the guide is wrong. Like I said I haven't done this myself but according to others it looks like you start at 3 for level 50 (or even 49?) and level 60 starts you at 5.

lvl 50 in ME1 = lvl 3 in ME2. I know this as I was exactly level 50.

Everyone get the good ending? Took me a few times playing the last mission to pull it off but I kept choosing the wrong barrier person. Was pretty cool how they did the ending scenarios though.

I started playing on Insanity last night after playing Vet on the first playthrough. I don't know if I'm going to be able to get through it at this difficulty without a lot of frustration :). Insanity on ME1 seemed a lot easier to me.

I have to say, after thinking about it a bit, I'm a little let down by the end of the game. Spoilers....

The game really built up to what should have been an incredible 3rd act, but it was just over so quick. They should have done with a few less characters and spent the time really fleshing out the end mission, where you were fighting as a team. That one mission really made it feel like all the time I spent gaining their loyalty was going to pay off, but I had expected more than a single half-hour long mission.

And the last boss was just...meh. Really? Giant Terminator? Really?

It just felt so anti-climactic....the first game ended with a huge fleet on fleet battle, and you were just a part of it. Here, you and a bunch of foot soldiers take on an entire alien race backed by super-AI warships, and the best they can do to try to stop you is to send a few foot soldiers back at you, while the giant terminator shoots mouth beams? It just didnt make sense, and was far from impactful, and then the ending was over before you knew it.

At least the final chapter is sure to be bad ass.

Almost done with my second playthrough, Adept Renegade female. Will do a third as the tech/biotic (Sentinel?) on Insanity.

However, my Xbox is starting to act up... it's hanging for no apparent reason sometimes... This is not good :(

Took me one extra playthrough of the last mission to get that achievement. I had a problem with
Mordin dieing during the last part, but when I took him on my team to beat the last boss nobody died.

I beat the game, and enjoyed it quite a bit. That said, the lack of weapon/armor options in the game was a HUGE disappointment. I used the same damn gun for about 90% of the game with no issues. Would it killed them to add a little more variety in this area? This felt more like Gears of war with some rpg elements mixed in.
