It's done, and overall it was an awesome fucking game! I do have some gripes and want to talk to you guys about them, but I need to put more thought into it first so more on that later.

I'm curious though, what were your completion times?

This is just an educated guess, but probably 25 - 30 hours. I completed it as soon as the loyalty missions were done and I had most of the upgrades. Now I'm just cruising looking for anomalies.

I was really impressed with the planetary side missions (anamalies). All where unique, perfectly paced at anywhere from 15-25 minutes and interesting.

I cannot beleive that Bioware made this game in 2 years--especially considering how well polished as it is.

The entire time I was playing it, that's what was going through my head: "they did this in 2 years?"

From a project management standpoint, the fact that any squad member can be on any mission creates a TON of work. You have to get every voice sample for every character, coupled with each of their own unique personality traits. The fact that they crafted entire worlds that half of the players won't even visit is just astonishing. There wasn't a single element that felt "tacked on".

Once I'm caught up with work, I'm going through it again.

It took me almost 31 hours on the dot. I did everything there was to do except a couple of the anomaly missions. What in the world made you take 52 hours? Not criticizing you. I wish the game took me that long too :)

I'm at about 15 hours, and I have all but two characters and only did one loyalty mission so far. So, I'm estimating ~30 hours for me to finish everything as well.

No no, it's a fair question. In short, I did everything!

I read all the codex, visited and mined all the planets. I completed all (20?) panetary side missions.

I stopped often to look at the dozens and dozens of beautiful vistas. I stopped to listen to the ambient sounds including conversations. At times I turned the music all the way down so I could listen to this stuff more clearly. I thumbed through the (goddamn amazing) music in the personal quarters on more than one occasion. It's just amazing to me how much this game has to offer. I relish in its atmosphere and lore.

I just didnt want to rush anything--not in the slightest, you know?

Just finished my first play through last night. Spent just a couple hours less than you, and did every quest and explored every planet.

Next play through on Insane.

I haven't played ME2 yet, but I've been reading through the thread. I've noticed a few posts about the limited resourses that you have to gather.

Any possibility that the quantity of them is tied to the difficulty level you are playing on? As in the harder the difficulty the less you get to make it tougher.

I think my completion time was around 35 hours, with nearly 100% completion (didn't waste time mining for platinum for finish off the rest of the upgrades).

I don't know about anyone else but I certainly don't need any extra planets to mine. I have plenty of resources (and tons of Rich planets I've left untouched) but not enough money for the last few upgrades.

Same here - you buy the star charts, you will have more resources than you need.

Just beat it--good stuff. Final time clocked in at 41h55m. I think my level was around 26. Pretty close to the cap.
No one left behind.
:D

A couple of things:
1)
Maybe it's because I was so powerful by the end of the game but I thought the end boss was ridiculously weak. At one point I decided to give him a shot with the Cain radiation heavy weapon which must have drained at least 60-75% of his health. He didn't really do anything other than fall down and shoot out a couple Collector grunts. The boss was cool but it was not challenging in the least. I had more trouble with the thing on Freedom's Progress.

2)
That you are able to bring Legion with you to the Citadel, etc. is damn near game-breaking. I was hoping all of the NPCs would freak out. The character and his mission are awesome, though.

That's exactly what happened to me. There's a few upgrades I know are still left to buy but I can't get anymore cash.

That has nothing to do with Mass Effect, but I'm going to say it now:

erwos, every time I see your name I think or "ewok" and that makes me happy! :)

I was curious which teammates from ME1 are available in ME2?

All of them at least make cameo appearances in the sequel (
unless your choices caused them to die in the original
), but only
Garrus and Tali
appear to be playable -- at least at the point where I am in the game.

So what builds are people using?

Right now I'm playing a Vanguard. I intend on the following:

Vanguard:
max shockwave - area effect
max charge - heavy damage
pull - 1 point
max incendiary ammo
max passive assault mastery

And I haven't really had a chance to compare bonus skills....though I did just accidentally purchase Zaeed's, 'cause I didn't really know what I was doing. Oh well, should be useful anyway.

soldier, of course.

with the
super-duper assault rifle
that makes the vindicator seem like a joke, plus cryo, inferno, and disrupter ammo, i'm a badass. add in shock trooper and my bonus skill (neural shock) and i can handle most situations by myself. looking forward to the next playthrough on insane.
