The single player is almost unplayable due to getting nailed by stupid items all the time, but the online is pretty fun. The general vibe I'm getting is that the pros are using bikes mostly so Im going to try and brush up on my biking skills.

It's stupid how hard it is to unlock certain characters and vehicles. A lot of them aren't even that hard, they just take a huge amount of time!

Anyway, I find it pretty easy to win races (online and offline) by just using one of the lightweight characters (Baby Luigi in my case) with the Bullet Bike and automatic drift. In online races, where there's no rubber banding, I sometimes win by half a lap. Depends on the skills of the other players though, of course.

Auto drift? Without the turbo boost doesnt that slow you down a bunch? Or are you only matched with others on auto drift?

How is there no rubber banding online?

I think he means that while the stupid items are still there, in CPU matches the laggards get speed up as well (just like the old MK). With real people in the laggard positions, they only get the good items, not a speed bump as well.

I have been trying to get this game everywhere, went to 5 different stores on my way home from work last night and everyone was sold out. I was hoping to get 2 copies from Circuit City for thebuy one get one half of deal, one for me and one for my brother. I am fairly suprised that these are so hard to find.

Rubber banding only applies to AI opponents.

Wow. This is just retarded functionality nintendo. You included a way to send "friend requests" but buried it in a scrolling menu item? What is wrong with you?

I still can't find this functionality (granted I only picked the game up this weekend). Do I still need my friend's Mario Kart Friend Code, if his Wii is already registered to my Wii, or is there someway to just add him?

I beat my friend, who boosts, pretty badly by using automatic and I routinely win against other manual users online. I wonder if manual mode isn't overrated for most. I spent a whole day trying to master it, but I couldn't beat the expert ghost on coconut mall.. Switched back to automatic and I killed him by nearly half a lap. And thats just talking time trials.. I don't think hampering yourself with all that extra work is of benefit in a real race with weapons. The boosts just don't matter enough then.

still working on getting a star next to my name..

Agree, the manual turbo boost is too much a pain in the ass to use and takes you out of a lot of good turn lines to use properly. Better to use the autodrift, especially in multiplayer when theres so much crap flying around.

Double agree. Classic/GameCube controller + auto drifting is the best way to win a lot. When you're so far ahead, even blue shells don't do much, and all the items getting slung around at people in 2nd-12th place keeps them from ever catching up.

So i thought there was going to be some sort of limited text chatting before matches during online games, but I haven't found out how to do it.

Anybody have any luck?

I think its only in friend races. My gf was chatting with her friend via pre-canned phrases and responses, but I wasn't there so I'm not sure how it worked exactly. I'm not a huge fan of chatting with other gamers online though.. seems more often than not you get pre-teens spamming obscenities. Sometimes there are exceptional intelligent (or at least coherent and entertaining) conversations, but I've not found that to be the norm...

I agree, but you would figure they would at least let you voice chat with the people you went through the painstaking process of adding as your friends.

Well, being kid friendly and family oriented, I can see why nintendo has opted away from online interaction, beyond the game itself, all together. It's too risky of alienating their core demographic's buyers.. ie parents.

Still, for all their efforts, I found a bunch of user designed mii's depicting oral sex v🙂v...
