How difficult is this game? I'm getting my dad into PC gaming and he's a bit slow (COD4 online was difficult for him), so I'm trying to find a game thats slightly slower paced (maybe TF2?).... Would this be fun online together?

On the easy difficulty setting it'd be very had to lose. The pace shifts dynamically and almost randomly.

The game isn't particularly slow, but if you set it on an easy difficulty level its not difficult at all as the zombies wont be dishing out much damage at all. Just don't FF him (and be prepared for him to FF you) and I think you'll both have a good time. Once he gets better you can up the difficulty and have some real fun.

Man, took me 3.5 hours with strangers to beat No Mercy on expert.

And seriously, why can I not join a versus game? I get a client disconnect or server disconnect within seconds. I'd be lucky if I can even kill someone within 10 seconds of joining.
Any idea guys? I had zero problems during the campaign.

I havent even managed it yet... theres always 1 person that totally sucks or screws up. I dont mind though, if they keep screwing up votekick comes in very handy 🙂

Anyone else getting random freeze ups? The game freezes until i minimize and maximize again,.

How is L4D associated with EA??

I just saw the TV Spot on Steam and it says EA, not valve, wtf?

Haha, the roof top is the worst. I think my team spent an hour there alone.

No freezing for me, I did have massive graphical glitches that I ended up fixing by updating my gpu drivers.
As for my 'can't play a versus game' problem, I got around it by turning off my firewall. Which is completely retarded.

Dont feel bad, I had 2 friends and 1 bot playing last night - 2 of us are pretty damn good at fPS and NO mercy took us a LONG time last night.

That being said, first night of the game... we are just having fun rather than getting all too serious about how to perfect our strategy.

Expert level is no Joke, and the lack of health packs makes it a challenge. You cant just regen health or grab tons of power-ups like most of these arcady games.

Also... The AI almost just baits you into the "kill everything then move on" mentality. Perhaps what might be more effective is to just keep moving as a group. <shrug>

Not sure how long the honeymoon will be for this game, or the longevity...but I can say last night was the most fun I have had in any online game in a long LONG long long time.

You've just taken a big leap towards mastering L4D. You mention how more traditional shooters aren't as punishing should you make mistakes, however those games also encourage you to explore and clear out every nook and cranny with rewards of extra health and powerups. Well extra health and powerups can be found in L4D, but it really isn't worth it because the more time you take the greater your chances of being attacked by more enemy. So what, you find the extra pipe bomb and bottle of pills, you had to fight through an extra hoard to get it, and use a molotov and bottle of pills you were already carrying...then there's the randomness that won't guarantee you'll be rewarded with anything for doing more than you had to do...

Vs. mode epitomizes it as you have humans controlling the boss AI and thus you have human players actively and intelligently hunting you down. Their attacks can be pretty feeble, however they respawn as there are supposed to be a relatively unlimited amount of infected...thus the absolute best way to survive is to move from safe room to safe room as fast as possible - the game no longer is just a shooter where all you do is fight, its also a race.

So, is my Laptop (Dell e1505) gonna be sad and not play this game?

Intel T2400 (1.83ghz)
1GB ram
ATI Mobility x1400

Thanks in advanced!

Just ran a benchmark, and my laptop will not run the game 🙁

Thats debateable 😛 Saw a tank yesterday, he attacked us then 10 seconds later somehow fell down the hospitals elevator shaft.

then it must be some dumb ass player. Near the roof in the hospital playing versus today, we took too long and of course someone got the tank. He bitch slapped two of us with full health right off the building.
