I remember watching Patrick Ewing's impressive debut game in which the Knicks lost to the Lakers. He turned out to be a really good NBA player.

But Lebron is only 18!!
Yup, Lebron is THE REAL DEAL!!!!! G.Dam this kid's got some game... he's sick. He could def be the next MJ... people can compare all they want for MJ's first season vs Lebron's, but the fact of the matter is MJ didn't come out of High school at age 18!

pretty good debut. Anyone know of any other past rookies who did better than James in their NBA debuts?

I don't know why, but I have an irrational dislike for him.

People tend not to like things that are force fed to them (at every commercial break)

Isaiah thomas had 31/11 assists and Oscar robinson had 31/10 or something. Also some other guy in 1958 (/edit: Guy Rogers) had comparable numbers. These are stats that espn showed reg. debut players of 20+ points and 9+ assists.

After seeing last nights game, he's a basketball genius imo. Just like Magic and Larry.

He ran the cavs last night, tempo/leadership, the whole bit. For an 18 year old's first game in the nba, that should be 100% impossible. He totally let the game come to him as well, didn't force anything but showed maturity of a seasoned veteran. His skills are unbelievable but that kind of leadership and composure and instincts can't be taught.

If he works as hard as other superstars have and stays healthy and out of trouble (which none can be taken for granted), there's no question imo he'll be a superstar.

Just one game.... so what? Sure its impressive but consistancy and longevity are keys to a hall of fame player...

Look at Grant Hill... career cut short due to injury... it doesnt look like he will come back?
Kobe Bryant the heir apparent to Jordan but who knows what will happen now?

I was impressed. For not taking a single shot in the 2nd quarter, to have 25 points aint half bad. If he shoots at a normal pave for the entire game, he would put up ~30. Add some missed execution from his teammates and you have a 30 point night with 10 assists along with a handful of boards along with 4 steals? You could tell the difference in the Cav's play when he was on the bench. I'm not ready to anoint him the next Jordan though.....yet. He is definitely going to be good, very good. ROY this year for sure in my mind.

Points to Ponder:

1.He had a great game and is a great athelete - but will he play this well all year? NO
2.He played the Kings who have been known to give up around 130 points a game (give or take 10) ;) - put a physical and strong defender and him, someone like Ron Artest or Gary Payton on him and see how it changes things.
3.His FG% will struggle this year but he looks like he can really run a team's offense setting the tempo and dealing out the assists.

GP's too small to be effective against him probably. Too bad they don't have a dominant big, or he would be pretty hard to deal with as a 6'8" PG

Very impressive game last night, but still early to tell how he will do. After his horrendous shooting in preseason, I was suprised to see his 12-for-20 performance.

Just a side note, those of you who shout about it only being one game, and then say he will suck the rest of the year: heed your own advice. He could come out and put up good numbers a couple time a week, you neve know. If he puts up atleast a 15-point average and 7-assist average for the year, he will have lived up to the hype.

The more comfortable he gets in the NBA, the deadlier he'll be.

Take it into context.

You do know that the Kings allowed the least amount of points of any team in the NBA last season, and were (and still are) considered the best defensive team in the NBA?

put a physical and strong defender and him, someone like Ron Artest or Gary Payton on him and see how it changes things.

Doug Christie, the SG for the Kings, was guarding him most of last night. He was named to the First All NBA Defensive Team last year, and had the 5th most votes for Defensive Player of the Year. LeBron was being guarded by the best. Sure, Artest and Payton would have given him some trouble, but not much more than a great defensive player like Christie.

3.His FG% will struggle this year but he looks like he can really run a team's offense setting the tempo and dealing out the assists.

Agreed, it seems he's an inconsistent shooter from his preseason performance, but that may have been a phantom slump.

Are you his agent or are you affiliated in any way with him? ;)

Thank you for your thoughtful and very well thought out post. It was both informative and useful.
Glad to return the favor. Not knowing that Doug Christie is 1st All NBA Def Team is just a minor detail. lol

He had a great game and I think he has great vision. I'd like to see him take it to the hoop more. He's going to be a lot bigger than most PGs he plays, so he has a very distinct size advantage in the low post. That's just what I see, but that's a minor issue considering how well he did in his first game.

His commerical is the stupidest commercial I've EVER SEEN made by Nike. I always switch the channel when it's on.

... oh yeah, he did great yesterday.
