I think you meant to say that Trinity is a dual-module. Not dual-core. AMD marketing will likely call it a quad-core. Much like BD is an octo-core.

Of course, we can debate modules versus cores endlessly on this forum.

MS already took its stand on that. Bulldozer is a quadcore with 8 threads in Win7hotfixed and Win8

AMDs marketing department got zero credibility. It kinda went terrible wrong from the Phenom is 40-50% faster than Core 2 and up till today with Bulldozer.

I think Rory is smart, and will do the company extremely well in the long run, but I don't believe for one bit that AMD isn't vigorously competing with Intel on the CPU design front at least internally. At the end of the day, they still have to design a CPU that's reasonably competitive with Intel. Although Intel has a long ways to go to catch up to AMD on the GPU front, they have mighty deep pockets, and given their track record in GPU design over the last 3 years, seem to have quite the focus as well.

I think in the next few years you might begin to see AMD's competitive advantage in the iGPU market begin to shrink as Intel improves on their design. Although Haswell is still a ways away, Excavator is going to have to be quite good in order to compete.

Must be, unless AMD is only making server variants of 'steamroller', which is possible since they cut employment 10% across the board. Once Vishera is done, everyone will be on the (22/20nm) shrink I suppose.

You DO realize that casual low res, low quality gamers form the bulk of all gamers don't you?

APU is all about the mobile space and the casual gamer. Llano is simply awesome already for these markets, Trinity just takes it a step up. I'm waiting for it to see if it can handle high res 1080p but low quality gaming.. then I will build a mITX rig for the missus.

With my llano rig (a8-3870k 3.5ghz, 850mhz gpu) I play the following games with no issues whatsoever, at 1080p, mid to high settings.

Eve-Online
World of Tanks
Dota 2
Diablo 3
Skyrim
Warhammer 40k Space Marine (awful game, but fun, does not support 1080p)

On top of that, my system consumes < 200ish watts at full load.

Trinity is going to bee a very good product.

Conclusion of all those:

This may caused bruised e-peens, but the reality is that AMD at the very best can only match Intel's CPU architecture from 6 years ago. That alone should tell you how... intelligent... their CPU engineers are in comparison to Intel's. When it comes to desktop, AMD CPUs suck in comparison to Intel, at least for the time being.

Nice, I didnt see any benches for Diablo 3 yet on Llano.. that's exactly what I want a second rig for the Missus for so she can team up for D3. Trinity is +50% GPU power from the looks of things, should be pretty damn fast for a light-gamer.

Well, it's certainly not worse, either.

45nm C2Q has better IPC than Phenom II, I'm pretty certain. 65nm is debatable.

Comparing clock-for-clock, 65nm Core 2 Quad is equal to just a tiny bit faster than Phenom II X4.

AMD cores had bigger pipelines to allow for better multithreaded performance. Kind of look at it as using thicker guage wire for electricity to travel through.

Yeah, it was magically better... even though they both had 4C/4T.

This isn't Bulldozer we're talking about. Back some years ago, all AMD and Intel had to work with was four cores and no SMT or CMT.

Well, if you look at that slide closely, it qualifies both the CPU and GPU improvements with the "up to" qualifier. So it comes down to whether they can meet those claims at all, and further if it holds true in a variety of workloads and not just in some cherry picked benchmark.
For instance, the next gen GPU is supposed to be very efficient in DX11, so we might see bigger improvements in DX11 games, while titles with only DX9 or 10 could show less.

I will admit though, that if they can in fact increase the GPU performance close to 50% in most titles, it will be very attractive, as long as the CPU does not become the bottleneck.
