very useful since the g-nex doesnt allow you to use phone as usb.

I plug my phone into the PC and transfer files all the time.. it doesn't work the well as other android phones with an SD card but it works just fine.

What exactly do you mean it won't let you use your phone as usb?

What does this mean? That you prefer having a SD card you can remove and use in a card reader over using a cable? Sure that's fine but to say that transferring files over USB on the GN doesn't work as well as [transferring files over usb on] phones that (also) support SD cards doesn't make sense.

Works fine for me too. What is USB Mass Storage? I read that the Nexus doesn't support it and thought it would mean I couldn't plug-n-transfer files between my Nexus and computer, but I'm able to do so quite easily

I'm seeing few bugs with this phone that just should not be on a phone that's sold on the mass market.

One, if you type too fast on the google search it crashes the search and takes you to home screen.

two, on the keyboard quick symbol (holding down the period key) the touch location is way off.

browser and app scrolling is choppy unless 2d hardware acceleration is on.

volume is way too f'king low.

Where is my option to set different notification chime for email, text, and voice mail?

plus.. i've done about 10 cycles of battery charge discharge, but it still sucks. 13hours on batt and 28% left.

yup that's google for you

Can anyone recommend a third party launcher that is truly compatible with ICS? I am not rooted so please don't send me any XDA stuff. I have pro version of ADW and Launcher Pro but they both seem out of place in ICS, as opposed to Gingerbread.

I've heard Nova is good/recommended.
Definitely not a fan of the stock one.

For Windows users, it's pretty much a transparent non-issue.

For everyone else, it gets a little messy.

See, the SGN does NOT support UMS (USB Mass Storage), which is necessary to be treated like a storage drive, and for it to behave like one at the hardware level.

Windows supports MTP natively (Media Transfer Protocol), so dragging files between folders/drives appears to work as expected.
There is no write caching like on storage drives, so transfers might be a little slow. It seems like there might be less of a risk of corruption, since entire files are either written or read in one go, or not at all... but you also do not get any recovery tools through the computer.
With MTP, the device retains complete control of the storage medium at all times, and the device retains control of the filesystem itself.

Since their is no removal media on the SGN, and the "sdcard" partition is just that, a partition of the main storage and not a unique part on the device, UMS (also known as MSC - Mass Storage Class) is not possible.

For Mac users, it requires a little bit of work. I think something called Android File Transfer, or something to the tune, is required to get UMS to work properly.
For Linux, well... from what I read briefly when I got the Nexus... it looked like it could require a little more effort to get the ball rolling.

For most users, especially Windows users, it shouldn't cause any issues, and at most (especially for other OS users) it may require a little adaptation... but long-term should work just as well. Very specific usage scenarios may mean the SGN just won't work for some people, but I honestly cannot think of any.

There's a lot of detailed differences that I glossed over, somewhat because I don't understand the details/importances myself, and somewhat because most of the details I remember I already spilled out, and for the details I'd have to hit up google or wiki... and I'd pretty much be copy/pasting without actually copy/pasting

When I say it doesn't work as well, it has been slower for me than other phones with USB mass storage/SD card.

I have no issues with it though, works good enough for my needs.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the hotmail app? Does it not support ICS?

It doesn't say 4.0 is supported, there's user reviews saying it doesn't work, and the web Market won't let me select the Nexus from the install menu . . . so I'm guessing no.

Any luck with some of the other mail apps that can hit Hotmail?

Is there still a "mail" app in ICS? I would think setting it up as IMAP would still work. It wouldn't be push but at least it's email.

You need to set up Hotmail as exchange to get push email. It has worked with the stock android email app for ages, I'd be surprised if that didn't work anymore.

Thanks for that explanation. What is the reason that Samsung/Google set it up like this? Any benefit to it?

It isn't physically possible to support UMS on devices that don't have a dedicated partition for storage (like a removable SD card, or a separate partition like Nexus S.) This is because UMS is a block-level protocol that gives the host PC direct access to the physical blocks on the storage, so that Android cannot have it mounted at the same time.
With the unified storage model we introduced in Honeycomb, we share your full 32GB (or 16GB or whatever) between app data and media data. That is, no more staring sadly at your 5GB free on Nexus S when your internal app data partition has filled up -- it's all one big happy volume.
However the cost is that Android can no longer ever yield up the storage for the host PC to molest directly over USB. Instead we use MTP. On Windows (which the majority of users use), it has built-in MTP support in Explorer that makes it look exactly like a disk. On Linux and Mac it's sadly not as easy, but I have confidence that we'll see some work to make this better.

I've heard good things about the XOSkins screen protector, that's what I ordered. I haven't used it yet though, my phone comes tomorrow.

Sorry to bring bad news but I ordered one of the XOSkins. It wasn't cheap either (no I didn't get in on the sale). If you want it to fit properly (read: not block) the earphone speaker/light meter/front camera, you will expose about 1.5 mm of the bottom of the screen. Not the end of the world but it's surprising that they can mess up on a piece of plastic. It's not rocket science. I paid $13 for it so I am not taking it off my screen anytime soon. But when I do, I'll replace it with the Bestskinsever skin that just arrived and see how that goes.

I just received my GSM Galaxy Nexus. Took 11 days. Blame the holidays and slow ass FedEx ground shipping. First impression. Damn this thing is big. 😀 But I love the large size and it fits perfectly in my hands. I haven't turned it on yet. It's still charging. But it looks like I got the Hong Kong model and not the UK based on the mailing address of the warranty card. Not that it's a big deal. I will flash to "yakju" factory image so I can get update directly from Google and not Samsung.
