well its not exactly verizon's fault that your wife actually paid for 2 years of insurance and a battery replacement plan.

i mean a barely used bionic on ebay goes for under $330 already. and new replacement batteries are probably in the $10 range. phones at near launch or at retail cost a lot. but this isnt really anyhthing new. when the original razr came out they were $700 for just a regular phone. and that was $700 in like 2004 money which is probably worth $1000 now.

I need to clarify something quick...this was a verizon authorized reseller I found out that she went to as I went to return the phone tonight and the bastards were closed 1 1/2 hours early 🙂

And for the record I don't blame Verizon...so don't think that please...I blame the shitbag who I am going to have a nice convo with tomorrow about how he worried my wife into getting every piece of insurance under the sun (I knew I should have just went down and got the stupid phone).

I haven't kept up with the ever changing phone market and I am quickly realizing how F'ing expensive it is to own a smart phone with a data plan which makes me even MORE confused when I see people of food stamps, with no money, buying cigs...that have smart phones (my brother-in-law is a perfect example)...

I was even MORE surprised when I inquired about the new iPhone 4S

And I don't mean to hijack a thread so stop me know if I shouldn't ask this...

Why is the iPhone 4S's insurance almost double that of normal Android phone?

It was something like 10.99 vs. 6.99 with different deductibles and everything...and if you get two claims they can drop you? WTF is that BS...considering when the deductibles were apparently 150 dollar range standard for a entry level iPhone 4S (SNL...Seth and Amy...'REALLY!?!?!')

why wouldn't you just get the squaretrade or applecare warranty on an iphone in that case - 100 bucks, 50 dollar deductibles for accidental damage (0 deductible otherwise).

edit: and its for 2 years, which should get you to your next upgrade

i'm sure they have noticed apple users have a lot more insurance claims.

i figure its like if you smoke you pay more for health insurance, kind of makes sense. the iphone , and especially the 4/4s are fragile. my thunderbolt has been damn near indestructible while nearly everyone i've known with a 4/4s eventually drops and then cracks some piece of it.

So let me get this straight...you would forgo the insurance from a cellular dealer and get a square trade warranty correct?

So say 100 bucks for the warranty...and 50 dollar deductible...worst case scenario

once you make that first claim the warranty is void correct?

Can you get square trade in every state? I know in Wisconsin I couldn't get one about a year go for a new TV...some BS law that I couldn't get a clear reason on...

That's it for exclusivity claims. In theory, one could order the GSM G Nexus from Europe and have it shipped a week before it's even available on VZW.
Except then you can't use it on Verizon.

I f'in hate Verizon. I guess this is why they've kept calling me with stupid offers to get me to renew my contract. I keep telling them: just give me the Nexus.

This seems likely.

I doubt it. Google said the nexus is coming in November and the razr launches on the 16th. That would make the galaxy nexus a December launch.

the apple warranty was two accidental claims. the warranty doesn't go void when you make the claims. it'll still cover defects and degradation, just not accidental damage (like you dropped your cell in the toilet) more than twice. plus the other non-accidental damage has 0 deductible.

im not advocating insurance, just saying that there are options out there other than the 10 bucks a month

the nexus is coming in nov, its launching in europw on the 17th

VZW will f people over, and the 2 week+1 day will prob be true

TBH i dont think i will be with VZW much longer. for me there really is no reason to stay with them

Except that AT&T will not get Nexus at all?

im not really concerned about that ATM, my VZW contract is not up till April, i might just wait till next year anyway

That's the advantage of being on AT&T, importing Euro devices instead of waiting for US versions or phones that aren't coming to AT&T at all. And since AT&T can't identify imported phones, they can be paired up with the cheaper plans as well.

I was thinking about leaving my parents plan on VZW and switching to ATT or Tmo (Tmo gets decent coverage in my area and ATT literally has a tower on campus), but I'm running low on cash (damn college expenses) and the Nexus is looking like a pretty nice phone. Also, with the LTE network developing so nicely on VZW, and Tmo faultering, I may just stick around as long as my parents let me lol

Yeah, I think she got greased. The sales guys are slimy. I never have bought ins on any of my phones and have never needed it. OTOH my brother has broken nearly every phone he's ever had. Depends on the owner, but seems pretty expensive when the resale value drops so fast on these phones.

A barely used Bionic for $325ish is a hell of a deal. I would consider just buying one off contract and saving your contract upgrade for later.
The Bionic is an awesome phone and most of its negatives are overblown or soon to be patched.

And... those two phones are competing, let them compete. I am sure many will find RAZR appealing, even beside Nexus.

I think most average Joes are going to think the Razr is the better phone.

1. Size matters

2. They hear "Ice Cream Sandwich / Android 4.0" and have no clue, even if they do they hear the upgrade is coming and will be OK with it

3. Unlocked boot loader. Do you really think the average Joe has a clue about that?

4. Camera is better... er... well... has more MP anyhow. 99.9% of phone buyers don't know any better.. hell, I would guess that 90% of camera buyers don't know any better either.

5. Kevlar & Gorilla glass.... ooooohhh ahhhhhh....

6. Water resistant design. Lets see how many idiots test it.

7. We're talking about people think their iP4s are LTE because they have a 4 in the name. Do you think they have a clue about screen resolution?

i think for the average joe it depends a lot what salespeople push in store.
if the salesperson says "android 4.0 is all you have ever wanted, it makes the phone much easier and faster blah blah, they may get pushed towards the nexus"

if they say "oh, no big deal, update wil come to the razr"...they'll get the razr.

the average joe listens to salespeople's advice.

TBH i think the camera on the nexus will sell the phone alone to people that take a lot of photos. its pretty insane for speed and what else you can do with it because of what ICS added

Really? Everyone is still crying that it is only 5mp.

I'm sure verizon will want to push the razr. Though an honest salesperson might still push the nexus
hahaha!

Razr will probably be loaded with verizon bloatware so they will definitively push that. Probably have higher commission on that one too so even if an honest salesperson existed I doubt they would push anyone towards nexus anyway. Nexus sales will likely be pretty low as usual, mainly the geeky crowd.

Sure MP is irrelevant but to the random idiots that walk into stores and listen to salespeople bigger number = better.

holy he11 I have spent the money I had saved up for this phone about 3 times already. Just release the damn thing already
