How would you compare it to the SGS2? All this Pentile talk has made me nervous about getting this phone.

I just can't imagine it being worse than the SGS2 at all...

SGS2 isn't pentile, but the large screen and wvga res makes it look a bit childish, and pixels are easily visible to the naked eye.

I would even rate my sensation above the sgs2 due to QHD, and the galaxy nexus far above both due to high res + samoled.

i had no issues reading fully zoomed out text on the galaxy nexus. i have a feeling the new font may be helping with that as well.

of course once HD SAMOLED PLUS NAO WITH BACON comes out whenever it does it will be the definitive king.

Dropping on the 17th of November in Europe..will the states get it soon after that? I hope so, I'm tired of waiting.

I'm guessing Verizon doesn't really want to advertise this phone as heavily as the RAZR and other bloat-laden phones.

Could be. They agreed to offer the phone without any of their own garbage on it, without branding, and maybe they got some leeway with advertising. Google knows it's not going to be a big seller with the average consumer, so a lack of build up won't hurt it too much.

Dumb question but why would Google know it's not going to be a big seller?

Everything I have read (and I am no phone enthusiast) says this is one of the best of not the best phones created...

not saying it's not going to be a big seller, but to the average person on the street, the razr is probably what they are going to choose. The biggest selling points, ICS and quick updates, aren't important to the average consumer who is basing their purchase decision on TV commercials or from what they see/hear in the verizon store. We are a different breed here on internet forums

In the past Nexus phones weren't ready for all carriers at launch, Nexus 1 never made it to Sprint and VZW, Nexus S never made it to VZW and the Sprint version arrived late. AFAIK, none of the past GSM Nexus phones were subsidized for existing customers, only for new contracts on T-Mobile, elsewhere without subsidy.

However this one is more appealing than the previous ones combined.

OK thanks for the clarifications...

My wife got the Bionic the other day (yesterday) and then I realized the Razr was coming out a week later...

She is returning it today and waiting for the Razr...

Holding the Bionic in my hand last night (first time playing with a smartphone) I had anxiety lol...800 dollar phone...what if I break it / scratch it / wreck it :O

I have a very old slider Razr so if that thing breaks I could give a shit...

The way you get fucked on phones these days it is ridiculous...

Her bill when she got back was 453 dollars

we had to change our plan because we were old Alltel customers

So it broke down something like the following
250 for phone
30 for data + 9 for second line
120 for 2 year insurance plan
40 dollars for some bullshit battery replacement and priority shipping fee that she caved too
Taxes and some other charges...but the total was 435...I just about died...

They WERE going to charge her 300 until I at the last minute looked it up on Verizon and showed it as 250 (jackasses)...

Yeah cell providers are the worst. You have to be on them every step of the way and watch like a hawk so they don't pull any stupid shit.

I recently bought an AT&T 4G hotspot to try it out, and I returned it the very next day after using it for all of 5 minutes. Yesterday I check the mail and they sent me a $200 bill for "data usage". Safe to say, I am never going to try anything AT&T ever again.

That's it for exclusivity claims. In theory, one could order the GSM G Nexus from Europe and have it shipped a week before it's even available on VZW.

well its not exactly verizon's fault that your wife actually paid for 2 years of insurance and a battery replacement plan.

i mean a barely used bionic on ebay goes for under $330 already. and new replacement batteries are probably in the $10 range. phones at near launch or at retail cost a lot. but this isnt really anyhthing new. when the original razr came out they were $700 for just a regular phone. and that was $700 in like 2004 money which is probably worth $1000 now.

As someone pointed out on Engadget, the screenshot looks more like an advertising schedule rather than pinpointing the release date for the Galaxy Nexus. If you look, on the same screenshot, the iPhone 4s is indicated for Nov 14th which obviously is incorrect.

exclusivity is fucking stupid. Apple's already moved in the right direction in this year, going VZW and now going to the big 3. I'm still mad about the US versions being carrier locked because they're fucking idiots here, but at least it's on 3 carriers.

WTF Google. Ok, we still don't know what the Nexus is gonna be on officially, but why a paper launch?

Paper launch? The launch hasn't happened yet, how could you say it's a paper launch?

And zoiks is right, look at that image. It says iPhone under 11/14. Doesn't look like a release schedule at all.

I'm siding with his wife on this one. The sales techniques for these very lucrative add ons that are utilized nowadays involve fear mongering and pressuring customers into buying them, one has to be borderline confrontational to dodge unnecessary charges. Removing them is always much harder than getting signed up for them by sales associates. At least she didn't get coerced into getting a car charger and a BT headset.

Regarding batteries, only OEM ones are good and they don't run below $20.

Verizon has 16 days left to launch the G Nexus before European launch but:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/31/telegraph-galaxy-nexus-launching-in-the-u-s-after-november-17/

I dislike VZW a lot for their prices, bloatware, sneaky privacy policy updates and bootloader locking policy as well.

While exclusivity was out of question with the dev phone, I am certain they will be the first carrier to subsidize the G Nexus, maybe even the only one. Other than one possible fabricated screenshot that indicated it's appearance in the Sprint inventory, there have been no clues of the G Nexus coming to other carrier stores.

my original droid is 2 yrs old next week. After 2 yrs, you will not want it replaced. Unless if you give then-best phone.
