Indeed. Unless you got some special deal with the rep and got your activation fees waived, every single carrier now bills you in advanced so you get the prorated charges + next months charges. It would've been the same on any carrier.

I guess I am not used to it since I haven't had a different provider than Sprint since the 90s. I still might jump since I have a flip phone for my mom on Sprint still. I considered moving her to Verizon, but I am waiting until she kills her current phone first.

This is if Sprint's LTE band and CDMA band are even the same at Verizon's, which I highly doubt they will be.

1) slapshot remote
2) i think most SMS programs will let you do this. I use GoSMS i know it can

Ooh good thing I picked up splashtop when it was free on amazon! I didn't know it could do all those things :)

How do I combine a persons twitter, Whats App and Phone# under one contact in the People app? Just got ICS and it created 3 different contacts for each.

It's amazing what a typo can do - Splashtop = Slapshot

That's just ugly. And no NFC. Not that I really care about NFC.

I have zero complaint with the stock battery life on my phone. I'm currently at 50% battery and that's after 13.5 hours unplugged and 2 hours of screen time. Basically I have to browse on my phone for about 5 hours during 10 hour period for my phone to die. My phone lasts about 6 hours if I browse nonstop after unplugging. I usually have >50% battery life when I plug in to charge in the evening.

A lot better than me. I'm at 10h 19m on battery with 20% left. 20 minutes of screen time. Thats about average for me. But I'm Verizon LTE

Sad state of affairs with the battery life... if you're not used to these android phones, you'd think this is some experimental gadget and it's a big game trying to get the battery to last longer than half a day. We are just making excuses for it - oh well.

How come the screen uses so much juice? My old VX6800 smartphone would last 2 or 3 days.. my old Treo too - this thing with either strong wifi or no data connected at all and 0 brightness still just drains and drains regardless. This screen has nice clarity & colors, but it's not like it's popping up text & images in 3D.

Maybe an hour to an hour and a half. Android OS chews up most of my battery

Well, you might actually have the problem where the phone doesn't really sleep. Use CPU spy to see how much time your phone is spending in specific states.

hey folks...i have a iphone 3gs and i'm thinking about getting either a nexus or a sg s2 pretty soon here. and naturally, i have questions:

1. I have unlimited data grandfathered on my at&t plan...which is why I feel I shouldnt switch to verizon. And apparently at&t has 4g LTE where I live in San Diego. Will I be able to use that 4g LTE if I get an unlocked nexus?
2. Best place to get an unlocked nexus? I assume you can't get one without ordering it online somewhere.
3. You cant just unlock a nexus yourself right? (probably a dumb question) How does the phone get...unlocked?
4. I have heard I will need a new sim card to get 4g speeds. can I just go into an att store and request that? or will they say no because i'm using a non-att phone on their network?

if I get the s2 I guess I want the skyrocket because it does 4g LTE...but some people have said the skyrocket is not as good for some reasons (worse cpu and gpu). however when I look at at&t's page the skyrocket is listed with a higher clock speed CPU....clearly i am confused.

edit: also looking at this $30 tmobile plan...sounds tasty indeed. I will need to procure an unlocked phone somehow...

For a phone such as this, I'm actually satisfied with the battery life.

LTE superphones at the moment are not at the top of the game in terms of battery life. You have the LTE radio itself, which is a secondary package whereas the other radios are on the SoC. And then you have the fact that OLED is not a battery sipper, especially such a large display like this.
Plus multitasking in general.

All that means is going to be less than a whole heap a phones. I'm very happy, it's better than the Bionic's battery life. :D

If you go through COSTCO or Amazon you don't pay activation fees, so when you get mom a phone....

yikes. I've heard LTE is power draining but that seems rather high. My HSPA+ Nexus has the best battery life of any Android phone I had so far. And everything is stock with everything turned on except live wallpaper which I don't use. Here's yesterday battery screenshot showing 76% after 11h 58min. This is with 40 minutes screen time.

These next screenshots is about one hour and 40 min later of continuous use. 42% battery left with 13h 45min on and 2hr 21 minutes of screen time.

Like I said, I can get 6 hours of screen time with continuous use right after being unplugged. I don't worry about battery life at all with this phone.

It's sleeping, it just sucks down battery like crazy. This morning I unplugged it at around 7:55am when I left for work, and by the time I got to work around 8:50am it was at 94%. That's 6% battery drain just sitting in my pocket.

Here's what CPU spy had to say

Total time 53:29

700 MHz 3:11
350 MHz 7:07
Deep Sleep: 43:07

So it spent most of it's time in deep sleep yet still sucked down 6% of the battery.
