DamangeControl ROM is giving me some great battery life. Add the Koni theme on top of it and it's just great.

Also - my google I/O phone is still going strong and I have not signed up for any service. It was supposed to end yesterday. Wonder when they'll turn it off. (Hopefully never.) :D

From what I've been reading the separation issues seem to be limited to revision 002 and lower. I haven't had any complaints about build quality whatsoever with my rev 003 unit.

Idk about you guys but I'm getting a full days use of internet/WiFi and YouTube streams, at least 10 hours of it.

I'm pretty sure WiFi uses a considerably less amount of battery life. That's just my personal experience with it.

On that note, if I could make sweet love to this phone, I would.

Ya I noticed the same with wifi. And this phone is definitely sexy... although I recently got to play with the Samsung galaxy s and that's a comparable phone

How's the Galaxy S multitouch or screen sensitive (responsive) compare to the Evo? Do you like TouchWiz better than Sense UI? Overall, which one is more responsive?

Has anyone played gameboid or any other emulators on the evo? I'm curious how games work with only having a touchscreen (mainly pokemon).

yeah im 4 hours in on pokemon fire red... working on leveling up to beat misty right now since i started with charmander... it works wonderfully well. obviously more action oriented games will be a PITA to use the touch screen though

also note, the zodttd is working on a n64 and ps1 emulator for android (1ghz req + decent ram to run it), im pumped for final fantasy and super smash brothers --- on my phone :D

I didn't specifically look at the touch responsiveness -- that is i used it and all, but my initial impression at first and after i sent a couple emails was pretty similar to my experience with the evo. Frankly though the evo's my first smartphone, so I dont have a lot of experience to make comparisons.

The samsung ui was good too. It looked a bit more apple-ish. But it contained many of the same features goodies that sense has including the facebook/twitter/etc aggregator, neat shortcuts and so on. they had their own flash app for the android 2.1 os in there too. you could add and subtract the extra "desktops" on the fly, similar to the way you browse windows in the internet browser -- i thought that feature was cool. uhmm.. functionally as my friend and i checked it out, it seemed like they were both just as intuitive. we noticed a couple minor bugs, but not really deal breakers.

i did really like the galaxy's screen. it has an amoled screen and the color and brightness were really vibrant. you could really tell the difference between the evo and galaxy in that regard. the galaxy is also significantly thinner and lighter... feels less like a PDA and more like a phone. again though, my benchmark phone is basically the evo... and apparently the evo pretty much is on the large side.

My brother bought an Evo and I was playing with it last night and found the voice recognition -> text message worked really well. Is this feature built into all android phones or is this strictly an Evo/Sprint thing?

It's an Android thing. I still can't find a damn EVO around here. Sprint finally has a good phone people want but they can't buy one. You would have thought they learned their lesson with the Pre, guess not.

I've been having battery issues and found that disabling all BG data helped a lot. The only thing I lost was my gmail and the weather updates on the HTC Clock, however I tend to think the Gmail app wouldn't be that bad and I assume most people run the HTC Clock widget. Does this mean I likely have a rogue app hitting the radio hard in the background? I'm not exactly sure what Android classifies as BG data, but I assume it's any data pulled by an app that isn't running in the foreground.

I'm having a problem just getting one of these. My sprint store hasn't gotten them in since launch, been about 3 weeks already.

Anyone got some ideas?

3g vs wifi (battery life). Yea folks who use the iphone 3g/3gs learned real fast to disable 3g when not in use. Sucks power like no tomorrow.

Try reserving one at your local radioshack? most of the stores around my area will take pre orders and stuff - especially when it means a guaranteed sale

I got lucky purchasing mine. Went into the Sprint store the day they were released, 30 minutes before closing and found out that someone had not picked their phone up that day.

Needless to say, I walked out with my EVO that night, lol.

Btw, are ya'll using the screen protectors that Sprint carries? I found that the matte one included in the pack feels kind of strange, but the clear ones are pretty awesome.

From my experiences, for the EVO in terms of battery usage:

4g > Wifi > 3g.

With my old Pre, 3g and Wifi were reversed (and obviously 4g wasn't involved). I can get through an 8 hour night not plugged in losing only about 3-5% which is downright amazing compared to my Pre.

Like the iPhone users who turned off 3g to conserve battery, I do the same with 4g and only use it in spurts when I need to pull down a lot of data in what would hopefully be a very short time. Otherwise 3g and wifi work fine for me.

I've used the ones made by Zagg before and that material is seriously hardcore. They are harder to put on (IMO) but just be careful and you should be fine.

So I've been having horrible battery life... like 4 hours from 100% to 9% with nothing more than simple texting or a few minutes of web browsing here and there. I made a few adjustments and I seem to be getting much better battery life. Ex: I have had the Sirus XM app running for 4 hours and have only used 50% (which isn't bad for an app that uses the radio so heavily IMO).

Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Uncheck "Enable always-on mobile data" Not sure what this does, but it's different from background sync.

Settings -> Accounts & Sync: This gives you a place to disable any syncing you don't use. I had disabled the FB update in the app, however the Facebook for HTC Sense was still auto syncing. Also news and stocks were auto-syncing and I don't use them.

Ugh. So my I/O phone finally was disconnected and I've tried three different reps to sign up on the Basic 200 minute plan without a contract and none of them know about it. I may just have to sell this and go to Verizon on the X to get with a subsidized phone even though I love the EVO and all of the ROMs.

I just got home from BB with mine. Initial observations are:

1. It does fit in my work shirt pocket, I was worried about that.
2. I don't mind the capacitive buttons.
3. Having only the power switch turn the screen on sucks big time.
4. It's usable outdoors.
5. The damn thing is fast, blows my Hero out of the water.

Well I off to cook dinner then I'm rooting and installing OC widget. That innocent little widget almost double the battery life on my Hero. I was able to go 24hrs without a charge.

The EVO requires an Everything Data plan plus the $10 fee. This is widely known and no way around it. The Basic 200 plan won't work for any Android phone on Sprint. If you are a new customer you can get an EPRP plan and save $10 a month that way.

arg rising screen issue here, with hardware 0003. I don't know if I have the Nova Screen or the epson screen, but I WANT that 60 fps hack! I can't stand sluggish response times of 30fps when the galaxy clearly goes @ 60 fps! That's why it's super responsive! Not blaming android on this one, but HTC themselves... trying to save a buck or two....

I bought a junk Spring Samsung A900 to sign up with the basic plan. Didn't work. Will be selling the EVO once the droid x comes out. At least Verizon actually lets you pay full price and go month to month.

I've been using SuperGSNES for a SNES emu... works very well and not too expensive ($4). Lets you use it in portrait mode (Controller on the bottom 1/3 of the screen) or landscape (Translucent controller over the entire screen). The only thing it's missing is a turbo button.
