Just ordered the Bronze version. I've read DOD:S was gonna look exactly like DOD right now, but uses the source engine. So, it's gonna have Source physics, but no Source Icandy.

From what I remember looking at Bronze was 50 bucks, Silver was 70 bucks and Gold was 90 bucks.

Gold: I don't want no postcards
Silver: DOD not worth it right now and I don't need a shirt
Bronze: kick ass.

But but but.. you can still play Source can't ya?

you heard wrong. silver was 60 when i bought it. dod is NOT gonna look exactly like dod, in fact its not even launching w/ hl2 because they are still working on it. silver also gets you condition zero + deleted scenes, hl1 (if you dont have it) and valve's other games.

Have you found some missions in CS: Condition Zero on Hard Diffulty to be impossible? Chateau has had be beat for nearly 2 weeks now. I've been so far as having the 9 kills, and my team is ahead by more than 2 rounds, but then you have to kill 3 people with the para without dying. I just can't do it. Playing CS: Condition Zero so much on hard difficulty has made me quite a beast at CS: Source. I'm at the top of every server. :D

I was thinking...

If you were to buy the retail versions. Would you still need HL2 [CD 1 or DVD] in the optical disc tray to play the game even after online authentication?

That would seriously "suck" if that was the case.

Yea, but I wanted to take pictures and stuff :p

I thought you bought the silver package off of steam? I am not too keen on my best buy getting it, as I'm the one that will be pricing the freakin' boxes. Why does that suck? Well, for one, I got the silver package off of steam (best choice/bang for the buck IMO), and for two, all I can do is look at the box and put a sticker on it. That's super suckiness right there. So close, but so far... and then I have a really important test (as mentioned in an earlier post) on Wednesday... I don't think I'll even be touching HL2 until late Wednesday to mid-Thursday....

Was your Best Buy one of the stores that got it's ass handed to it for releasing Doom 3 early?

Gotta be the most boring launch of a game of this magnitude I've ever seen. Valve should be ashamed. Gamers have waited and waited for this game. There is no mass advertising campaign, and stores have their copies. Steam owners have their copies. Just pull the trigger and release the dang thing already.

HL:S is just like DOD:S, Source physics, but no Souce Icandy. Textures and poly counts and mostly everything will remain the same.

I was reading an interview with the DOD guys and it said it was just gonna be a direct port.

The sound and sound effects seem excellent for HL2 finally they didn't wimp out on the NOISE for guns and esplosions like some games did (doom 3 - eh hem the machine gun in that sounded like a freakin' weed wacker *weak*) The BINK videos especially the one with the Striders really shows off this games ear shattering sound.

Is there a serious increase in sound quality if I purchase a Soundblaster? I have on-board sound right now and it seems to be pretty decent.

I'm not afraid of heights I'm afraid of widths.

I havent seen anywhere in UK selling pre-orders of anything except the standard HL2+CS:source package (albeit in DVD).

I think i'd be quite interested in playing HL1 again in Source, and DoD sounds promising, but the phone company arent activiating DSL here for a couple of weeks (and i'd rather have the disk anyway).

My Best Buy has this game late Thursday, and what pisses me off is there is an in-company document telling the stores to put it out on the shelf and sell it cause the street date is no longer valid. Am i correct in assuming this is in reaction to various stores across the midwest violating it? As mentioned of course it doesn't do anyone any good til Tuesday anyways since they have to unlock it. But, maybe for someone who has purchased or gotten a retail copy already (I would have but have a free copy waiting for me via steam thanks to a buddies ATI coupon) is there an option to activate via phone for those who may not have internet access, or a gaming rig they don't hookup online? Just curious.

All I know is, what a bad deal for Valve. Vivendi is making their money through retail sales right now. But nobody is going "GOD ****ING DAM*IT VIVENDI UNLOCK THE FU**ING GAME" everybody is going GOD ****ING DAM*IT VALVEUNLOCK THE FU**ING GAME" So Valve is taking the bad press for this, not Vivendi.
