HOLY HELL! those fixed images are enough for me to need a change of clothes! I just about pissed in my pants when I saw my video card's performance in those last two benches... almost identical frames even though they're at different resolutions - that's just amazing at how the 9600 Pro performs at those resolutions and get a frame rate deviance of about a few milliframes apart (i.e. .2 frames).

I can't wait to play this game when it comes out - but I'll be looking forward to the September 30th release of the Half Life 2 benchmarks - thanks for the excellent "short" review of the benches relased by our beloved spiritual leader, Anand! :D (thanks for the heads up, Adul - I made a mistake there :disgust: )

You forget to mention that Anand did his own benches as well ;)

is everyone forgetting that this is with every setting ALL THE WAY UP?!

this is supposed to able to fly on Geforce classic and Radeon 7000 architecture.

Your FX5600 and FX5200s will run fine with some of the shaders turned down.

This isnt a huge deal.

Edit: I hope a det50 review for HL will be up soon. Because if there isnt a noticeable loss in img quality and it runs much better. I wont trust AT anymore.

And so it begins!! :p That's what happens when you talk junk

BTW... Don't try to email Valve... I sent them an angry email explaining that I had already preordered and that the game seemed unplayable w/ a 5900. I recieved a sarcastic email thanking me for being a valued customer....

If only I had the sense of humour to laugh about that....

roflmao - you e-mailed them? oh my god, you're one dedicated nvidiot! I'm sorry to say this, but you're just lame. I'm not surprised they sent back a sarcastic e-mail to ya - after all you're the one doing all the whining. At least it's somewhat playable, and of course this isn't the end of the world - the latest drivers might fix the problems nvidia is having on HL2, so be patient. Don't jump to conclusions already!

Reading as I type...not gotten to benchies yet....

Edit: My slightly crusty but ever faithful Ti4600 puts in a sterling performance! Though I might have to consider changing cards when the hits the shelves!

Image quality? Nvidia?

Just kidding, put down the flamethrowers.

Seriously, the article said that Valve stipulated that only publicly available hardware and drivers were to be used in the test. Det 50 isn't out yet, and doesn't render fog in HL2.

The control one game has over people is astounding. That said, I'm probably buying it :).

Shouldn't you have emailed nVidia instead? You should be asking them why their flagship hardware performs so poorly in DX9 games. The evidence of this was known before HL2. You made a bad choice in your hardware purchase. Valve is not to blame for your blind-sightedness.

Valve is preventing det 50.xx drivers from being benched. Valve has been working closely with ATi so the optimizations are already on the official current ATi drivers. Valve is to blame for this whole flamefest. Do you HONESTLY BELIEVE nvidia is gonna drop the ball on this?

It does confuse me WHY valve is so against using the det 50s?

My guess is there is a very good reason why they have not used the DET 50s. Anyway, once the DET 50s are released, people will be able to conduct there own benches...time will tell.

But I contend that NVDA's problems are hardware-based. No magical driver will save them, at least not with big drops in IQ.

I have no idea but I will not give a opinion until I see these benches again with Nvidia's 50.XX Drivers.

possibly because the drivers dont render out all the objects

but probably more because in one article they said that "some" driver detected screengrabs and made the screenshot look better than the actual image was. When nVidia releases official drivers and get cought in cheating like that they have to stand by their words, if it get cought in beta drivers they can always use the excuse that it were not the final drivers.
