What would you call a card, if AMD send it to the market for usd 700 - calling it the fastest gpu on earth? And the result was:

Fastest on the old games but slowest on the new games
Fastest on low res but slower on the high res
Less noise than the competitor
Explode when you oc it slightly

Well i would call it an epic fail. But NV can do it, because it have the brand strenght. Then its labeled a draw. All all the marketing machine of NV is working in the forum too.

This card is clearly faulty. And vrm and hw regulation will be corrected by NV.

The label "its a draw" was just so predicteble. And that even before its was known the card was faulty.

This card was never needed in the first place. The architechture was not made for it, and it was obvious when the 6970 hit the selves, that NV had to do crazy things to beat the 6990. And they did just that. Excepts they ended with a slightly slower card that exploded when you oc it.

Unless reviewers and forum members clearly say stop for this kind of nonsense marketing stunts NV will continue doing it, because its good business. It all leads to lower performing architechtures for everyone, because the marketing department will have the power in NV to dictate irrational decisions for the engis.

So if we all want better cards for the future, we have to support the rational choices, and the engis decisions. And say stop for theese irrational marketing moves like this card.

It start in the forums, it will move to the reviewers. And then in the future we will have better cards.

every page in this thread is a repeat what you have said. Its been stated over and over. Clearly most everyone in this topic dont like the 590. Clearly they all prefer the 6990. you have repeated the entire threads dislikes for the 590. I get it, its your right to have your opinion/preferences. Its not gonna make the 590 disappear.
did you find it necessary to repeat the threads negative opinions on the 590 again? Did you read the thread in its entirety? Why is it so important to repeat this over and over again.

I say the perform similar, and you disagree. Okay, but its not debatable. They are close. very close. Does this sound bad to hear? does it bother you? I am not saying anything against the 6990. I am trying to move the thread along. You can keep repeating this stuff in every page if you must, if it satisfies you then i suggest you get that satisfaction. I want you to feel good, have a blast.

I also think that we have established every fault and negitive opinion that could ever be said on the 590. Done. The 590 is still here. Whats wrong talking about other things which the 590 is. To you its nothing more, but thats not real, it mat be what you want, but its not all the 590 is.

I am not saying the 590 is even good at all, what i am saying we established some great opinions. We have lots to read about the 590 faults an dislikes. Now the 590 is more than its faults, you see. Is your opinion all the 590 can be? Idk what i think about it yet, but i feel like you probably dont like the 590 at all. Many others here dont either. Thats cool, 6990 rules!!!! whatever, but this is the 590 thread and its moving past the hate.

Unless someone else has to rant this same ole stuff again, its established and your right to feel that way yes, but how many times does it have to be repeated? Dont you get that its established already. Your opinion is exactly the samething this thread is full of. Even if you were right, is there not more for ppl to discuss here, maybe you could see some others opinion or views too! I cant wait to....

Exactly who is repeating? :), if you read the post to the end, there is a point. Did you read it, agree/disagree, or do you prefer not to argue?

Please take some electronics classes, and then reread my post, which you quoted.

i did, your an enginner, you should know. I need clases, it might help i guess.

Your post was an attempt to use numbers that dont matter against nvidia so as you can feel better that its not equal when it is. Its equal in the end, you say nvidia had to cripple their cards with low clocks and thats why AMDs is better??? well you can spin if you like its the outcome your missing. Lets spin numbers that dont matter the other way.....

So your saying that nvidia uses less cores that are so powerful they can be severly underclocked and still match AMD???? wow! AMD uses 3x the processors and is clocked 1.35% just to match the 590!!!!!

Its not the way to look at it, they are not the same directions or even comparable architectures at any level. Why would you say the low clocks make nvidias worse? why does AMD have to have high clocks then? Why arent you seeing that the outcome was the same, no matter which company's route. Its fine if you like AMDs route better, but you cant say they arent ending in a similar performance.

Also notice how i am not plugging in the product i support, i am not trying to get you to like the 590 route, or anyone else. Just saying its not possible for nvidia to have these limitations when they matched the 6990 in the end. Both got their best of the best and theu are wayyy sooo close!!! What does that mean? The very least you should be able to see nvidias wasnt as bad as ppl thought all along. That its not getting nvidia any further than AMD. and i know you like AMDs approach better. its cool, i hear u. I aint tryn to change that

haha. i asked if there was anything good that could be said about the 590, that their had to something. I asked for at least one pro.......

and this is the response????

this whole thread is a 590 bashing, page throughout page of the flaws and inabilities. I ask for some pros and why cant someone list one? is it fear? will it hurt? will it make it better than the 6990? NO!

so what if the 6990 is better? there has to be something positive about the 590, can we hear anyone with something pro about the card. It is after all the official 590 thread, lets talk about what the card is and not what it isnt.

so 590 pros.....any takers?

Imho,

It's a choice from nVidia that offers around 50 percent more performance than their GTX 580. It has the ability to use transparency and super-sampled for DirectX 9, 10 and 11 titles. It offers PhysX and 3d vision, multi-monitor surround and 3d vision Surround for a single card. The acoustics are quiet and the product is balanced and having competition and choice is better than what happened with the 5970.

The market decides - not vocal members in forums. It's not about winning and losing but competing and choices. If one likes the 6990, heck it has compelling strengths as well and thing its great to have that choice.

Do you want me to argue? its your heart felt opinion, I aint tryn to change that. I am trying to discuss other things on the 590 thread but some cant get past their dislike/hate. If you want i can agree with you, is that what this is about? I cant feel it like you do though. I am not afraid of the 590 failing. I dont care at all if it makes it or not. You really seem to care on a level i can never understand. Dont get me wrong, its not personal. It probably would be nice if i had such strong emotions and passion. I dont though at all.

I can say that i feel like there is more we can discuss about the 590 here. I envy your passion, but its yours and everyone else who feels so strongly. Its not like i can just read that and be full, its emotion i can see. but.....

this is the 590 thread so i am moving on

Well, you are partially right, I like AMDs card better than Nvidias, but I actually like Nvidias core better. Cuda is superior to stream, but its too power hungry to run at its full potential. I do like 6990 better than 590, not because i think it performs better, it does not, they have same performance at stock, I like 6990 better, because it is a more elegant, better thought out design. 590 has wasted potential in it, the FG110 cores which can not be used at their max voltage...

To me, 6990 is an elegant design, while 590 is an ugly, although still well performing design. Two designs perform equally well.

Its like this:
you have to transport 1000 people from east coast to west coast. 6990 would be like taking 30 greyhound buses, while 590 is like taking 500 feraries, sitting 2 people in each one and driving cross country. In both cases you get there in same amount of time, because you are speed limit limited, but the ferraries burned a whole lot more gas.

590 should be a 700watt card. If you break the PCIE spec, add water cooling to both cards and clock them at max voltage, this would require reworking 590 power circuit, then what you would have is the 500 feraries getting cross country in half the time of greyhound busses, because they are no longer limited by speed limit... The ferari route would still cost more but gets you there faster...

see progress..... thanks for your input. someone said it was smaller too and therefor it could fit in smaller cases. lets keep this going

pros of the 590!!!!

Thing is if you're desperate to hear some pluses for the GTX590 why don't you state them instead of trying to get others to do it?

You're constantly berating others in this thread for expressing their opinions about the card without really giving any of your own.

Yeah, I wish I could get over-clocked GTX 580 SLi numbers on a 700 dollar product, too. If nVidia could pull that off, that would be amazing, but let's be realistic, more like closer to GTX 570 Sli performance, but with added value like more cores and ram -- that's the context I see.

see it was important to come to terms else you wouldnt see the beauty. I dnt think its possible for nvidia to keep high clocks but you see it didnt make them less. It proves that nvidia isnt less capable, but no way are they the same logic/path. The end is get what you love, it makes you much happier if its something you really really like. I dont think i can say nvidia cores are better. They are at somethings but really AMDs got somethings goin for them nvidia cant have. Those cores are a double edge sword.

Agree. This is not about the words you repeatedly use in your posts: feelings, emotions, hearts and opinions

This is not about me, us and you

This is about simple fact like retail GTX590 explodes even wihtout voltage and oc

I'm not ready to indite the gtx 590 for any electrical or design shortcomings until someone (reviewer, respected engineer) examines whats going on. The 5970 was far from perfect, and the Xbit article on the 6990 showed one gpu running 12c hotter than another.
I hope something similar is written up as done here
Radeon 5970 Overclocking: The VRM Temperature Bottleneck
which stopped any overclocking on one 5970 sample on release.

And is it implausible that these details slip by ? Of course, I only have to look back to the Barts release where at least 9 sites received cards with unlocked shaders.
At Cayman release or any AMD launch there is always debate that a reviewer used a less optimized driver. This is in part because AMD has so many version releases. It leaves room for confusion.
For the sake of my argument, maybe that actually happens.

Idk how that makes since at all. But, so you know first hand, i have not decided how i feel about the 590 yet. While you instantly had felt your feelings, i havent. Does that make any since? I am not sure whats my opinion but i am sure of yours. it actually wouldve been useful had i not read it over and over from other ppl already. So hear i am, on the fence. on the thread discussing the 590 with ppl

The problem is that we are now in the architecture discussion, rather than product discussion. We can agree that green architecture is more powerful, than red, however it still does not aid 590 as a product. Reason being is that 590 reference design has many many things which hold it back, however this leaves allot of room for performance gains from non-reference designs...

i think that we said the cuda cores were more powerful not the resulting architecture. I think we established they ended both equally capable and the beauty of such a feat. Nvidia has to acknowledge the powers of AMdS design. But you still think that the 590 is held back where i see it as nvidias best. its not the same

Are you?

Just for clarity I think the 590 is irrelevant at this point.

If I wanted a monstrous dual GPU card I'd get a 6990 otherwise if money wasn't an issue I'd get a GTX580.

Its not about Nvidia vs AMD. The 590 is competing with Nvidias other cards as well as AMDs.

The 590 has Cuda but I'm like to see one used for folding 24/7 for a while before I'd risk it. If I was using the card for compute tasks I'd way rather use a 580 or maybe 2.

I think I introduced a bit of confusion by using word "architecture" to reference the architecture of the card and architecture of cuda core.

Botom line is:
x cuda cores > y stream processors; where X and Y are max numbers they can pack onto 1 gpu.

x cuda cores need more power than y stream processors, if each is clocked at their highest voltages.

As the result, the properly designed system of 2 GF110 GPUs can deliver better performance than 6990. The problem is: 590 is not such a system. 590 only matches the 6990, because it is the "cripled" version of what a properly designed system of 2 GF110 GPUs can be, to stay within air cooling and PCIE spec.

Ok. Then i will list the advantages of gtx590, compared to 6990, because you asked for our opinion:

-Massive 11% performance advantage (in 1024x768)
-Tangible performance advantage in 3-4 years old games (as oposed to new and future)
-Quieter (as the difference between loud and very loud)
-Most of them dont blow up!

it was all good till you got to the properly designed part!!! again back to the beginning!!! Is not the 6990 crippled too? oh its not as crippled? Thats just a backwards view. How come you think its possible for nvidia to surpass the very power limitations that AMD was bound to? Its impossible, this perfect design thing isnt real. You are imagining something then saying nvidia didnt reach that. Its not possible, the 590 is the max nvidia could get under their power restrictions, period. Nothing faulted anything. It was a limit they had to fit their card in, you cant make it any other way. why dont you focus on why AMD couldnt clock their 6990 cores the same as the 6970 to be able to beat nvidias best instead? Its the same line of thinking.

IDK how we get back to this point but its not likely you get what i am saying, again.

Lol
