Im not going to argue on Drag's point but i am going to point out that you may want to reconsider this arguement.

Have you ever had sex in a non missionary position?
I sure have!!! And drag's girlfriend loved it and was happy I didn't break down in hysterical sobs after busting a nut.:D

(OK, just kidding......drag doesn't have a girlfriend.)

Later on in this very post you go on to produce more flamebait nonsense such as the above. You seem to be equally guilty of being a forum macho man as anyone in this thread.

The fundamental problem I had with drag was his snotty attitude and sheer pride at his thievery. There was no reason at all for him to post what he did other than for him to get is faux rebel rocks off. (You could almost see the Hot Topic "punk" clothes he was wearing.) You don't know if I've paid for all the software on my computer or whether I drove the speed limit today because I don't go online to brag about what laws I don't consider valid upon my selfish desires.

So instead of having pride in your thievery you champion the law and act self righteous but now you confess the possibility you haven't paid for all of your software?

Those who pointed out the costs of porting games from platform to platform are spot on because if everyone just steals what's easiest to swipe - usually PC games, cuz modded HW isn't needed - then it's likely that developers and publishers will stop porting games in the future because all they'll be doing is wasting time and money for the drags of the world. Why bother?

I am the one who pointed out the cost of porting the game. If you are interested to know Drag agreed with me that this cost was not one he incurred while buying the PS2 version and has agreed that he will likely not pirate a PC version of the game. See how simple it was to TALK about an issue instead of preaching about it?

Of course, it's a fools errand to discuss with macho twerps - why do I know this guy is only 5'6" or shorter? All the big "shoot them in the head" talk is a hint - especially when they think is logical discourse
Your logic is crap. Playing for GTA on the PS2 and then wanting to play it in a PC is not the same thing as buying a ford and stealing a porche. It's like buying a ford in Nevada and then being told I have to buy another one in order to drive it in California.
Yeah, right. What if the roads were different widths and you needed a right-hand drive car for Cali? These are just academic arguments, but it doesn't change the central point: Though you can do what you want, you can't claim it's RIGHT just because it suits your purpose.

As above I suggest that you might well be macho twerp. You produce nothing but flamebait and it seems you cannot have a civil conversation at all.

I can always tell when someone has no creative ability of their own cuz they openly show contempt, heck, they're PROUD of the contempt they have for those they rely on to provide them with their entertainment. Games, music, movies, whatever they want, they're entitled to it for free because....well, just because!!!

At least they are proud of what they are doing right? You are just a hypocrit for criticizing it and doing it. In my opinion you should never do something that you cannot be proud of.

Bottom line: If you're gonna be a thief, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF and stop expecting an approving pat on your pointy head when you brag about what a Jeff K. you are.

Bottom line: you dont condone it you just do it? I think that you are a very illogical person.

Nuff said!

Oh, give me a friggin' break! The most annoying thing about this forum is the way people, when totally schooled in their hypocrisies, ALWAYS turn into juvenille "I'm rubber, you're glue" twits who claim that the only person espousing an ethical viewpoint is the illogical one!

I know it's all the rage to be "nuanced" and utilize "situational ethics" to determine one's actions, but there's RIGHT and there's WRONG and while you can sing and dance about how it's no big deal, you can't deny that choices have consequences. If the speed limit is 55 and I choose to go 80, while it may be perfectly safe and the limit may be arbitrarily low, the guy in the car with the flashing lights isn't going to be too interested in my rationale for disobeying the posted limits.

This whole pooch screw stemmed from drag's need to prove what an arrogant thief he was and how he was planning on stealing the PC version. Instead of attacking me for pointing out that he's a thief, why aren't you concerned that he feels no compuction about openly bragging about his disrespect for other people's intellectual property.

His feeble excuse about how he's used to free (as in beer, not speech) software via open source is a ruse. He hopes that we'll ignore that everyone who provides source code, etc. has CHOSEN TO DO SO and ignores the irony of the L in GPL standing for "license". If you actually read an EULA for retail software, it's pretty strict in it's terms and the GPL doesn't automatically mean, "Steal what you want, kids!" And I'M the illogical one?!? Sheesh....

In his defense, y'all shouldn't be bagging on him for being from Nebraska. They've got a big emo music scene full of whiny, simpering brats who need a good slapping around and that's more than most states can claim. There IS worthwhile life between the 212 and 818 - drag may not be a good example, but he'd probably be lame if he lived in San Jose.

(And that's not flaming, it's mocking. I mourn the American education system that has turned out so many with so limited language skills.)

I picked up the game last night. TONS of fun. Yes, it's pretty similar to the other GTA games, but they did improve it quite a bit.

Yeah, when Vice City came out for PC, I tried NOT to do too many missions in a single day, I didn't want to blow through the whole game in a week.

Warcrow, I do have a question for you, although it's highly opinionated in nature. Liberty City, IMO, was better than Vice City, in an artistic way. Don't get me wrong, I loved Vice City, the pcj600, the choppers, etc. But I thought that Liberty City (combination of buildings, cars, characters, pedestrians) had an artistic value better than that of VC. What do you think, so far, of San Andreas?

TO be honest, I only played GTA3 for about an hour on a buddies system. I've never owned it.

As far as SA goes? Its hard for me to say, b/c I'm only touching the tip of the iceberg here, but it seems better in everyway. Now, the big difference is the theme (extremely ghetto, not mafia-ish like VC). So, thats were opinions might vary heavily. Seriously, the N-bomb has been dropped atleast 20 times now. <shrug>

I really like it though, very fun. I'm glad I bought it.

I'm having the hardest time finding this guy's house to save my game :( There used to be an R by it but now it's gone and I can't find my way home, this is rediculous. I know it's near the chicken place but always get lost. Are there any good maps?

Other than that, it's pretty cool. I"m on this motorcycle mission chasing a train, really well done.

There is a map that came with the game, or in the beginning of this thread. You might not be able to see the "R" because you're in the middle of a mission.

Or he might not be able to see the "R" because it's an "S" now. :D Like I said earlier, the in-game radar sucks balls. Icons lay over top of icons, and the icons are probably 20% of the small radar's size. And I'm gaming on a 52" widescreen, and I still can't tell anything.

I played a bit more tonight, and I finally "opened" the gym. I like the way it works, and it doesn't look like it will be hard at all to buff up and build stamina. They only let you "work out" so much each day, so you can't just sit in the gym for about 10 minutes and build your meter up. There's a bench, treadmill, excercise bike, and dumbbells. Each vary on what they help, between lowering fat, building muscle, or increasing stamina. It's all track & field controls, and no problem at all. Each workout station has different levels, and I'm assuming higher levels will build your meter faster.

Also, buying and changing clothes suck. It takes 5 seconds to get into the dressing room, you pick an item, it takes him 4 seconds to come out, 3 seconds to pose, and whether you buy it or not, he goes back in, which takes another 5 seconds. I easily spent 15 minutes in the clothes shop trying to change into my gang colors, and it was a big waste of time. I doubt I'll spend much time on clothing, it just takes too long.

Run down to the local computer store, buy a cheap tv input card like a ATI Wonder VE for like 25 bucks, something that accepts RCA-style (or s-video if you use that for your PS2) inputs and supports stereo sound.

Then that will do it. Plus then you run a cable into the computer room and have your wife watch TV on their while she surfs the web or is doing e-mail or IM or whatever she does on the computer.

Plus later on when she gets used to it and likes it you can use it to help justify buying that gigantic computer monitor you've always wanted. ;)

Console games never seem to look great on monitors, at least to me. All of the graphical flaws just stick out more.

Well I'll play my nintendo game cube on my PC monitor. I just use a application called Tvtime that can do various filters to help smooth out the image and make it look nicer.

It's not perfect, but it's nice to be able to browse or do whatever when you get to the boring bits in games.

What? Is this the coming out party for the excesively anal? And if you were worried about thread crapping, why didn't you pm me?

I just didn't think about it, so sue me. I was just tying to be helpfull.

Anyways, I spent a couple hours playing the game.

The whole customizing thing is interesting and one thing that I realy like is the ability to customize low riding cars.

I think it adds a element to gameplay that was laking in the first 2 3-d GTA games, especially Vice City. That way you actually have something to spend your money on other then something then blowing it on extra weapons to go on killing sprees, your actually get afraid for your car, because you can put so much money into it, so when you accidently drive it off a bridge you actually pissed for losing a car or getting it blown up.

edit:
Also is there more then one type of lowrider cars? Can you get different models in different cities? Is it difficult for you to race the CV races in them (because I always end up rolling my car when I get desperate towards the end)?

I also like the fact that water does not = insta-death. I can't count how many times I accendently died when running up to a boat to get into it. Especially when I had a time limit on a game.

This thread is hardly 'the official GTA:SA' thread. People, quit your bitchin, and get on topic.

Now, can more of you start talking MORE about the game please?!?! Seriously considering picking up a PS2 for this game alone, especially after the wifey saw it on the Today show (another video game corrupts minds segment) and she freaked out. Anything to tick off the old lady ;)
