I beat the game a few days ago. Simpley one of the best action/adventure games ever made.

Still haven't played this, dammit. It was finally delivered on Monday. I might shoot home tonight (traveling for work as always), if not no GoW until Friday.

So I started another thread a few days ago about scratches on one of my PS2 games, induced by my PS2....it was God Of War, and became unplayable somewhere near the end. I took one bit of advice and went by HOllywood Video--they were able to buff it up, and I could continue slaughtering innocent little mythological creatures with no abandon. Happy day...

I finished it 2 nights ago, and I must say....although it's still way too derivative of the first (Still no reason to use anything other than your blades and one magic skill, if sparingly), it's pretty badass. I enjoy the ending...and it may be what forces me to buy a PS3 a few years from now.

That's basically what I said here: http://www.playedpodcast.com/2007-03-21/played-episode-23/

I was excited when I heard about the new weapons--but once in the game I never really used them. There was no reason because the Blades of Athena were always so great and the moves to refined.

Has anyone else tried out the Arena Challange? Good lord is that difficult! I'm only on the 5th (of 7) challenge and man is it difficult.

No sh1t. the challenge seems 10x harder than the first GOW. I got to 2nd challenge, and decided to hold off on it. It seemed on par with the final 2 or 3 challenges from the previous game. Can't imagine how much harder they get....

I believe that one is killing targets in the air. I rarely do that anyway, as I tend to focus on grappling moves. They seem to give the most orbs, so I try to get Kratos to rip apart as many things as I can, up close and intimate :)

To be honest I thought GOW2's puzzles were somewhat easier then the first one. The flame wall took me a little time to figure out but other then that ya easy.

I must say the ending to GOW2 made me very sad which leads me to believe maybe a GOW3. I think that was kinda harsh to cut off the end like that =(

God of War 2 = best game ever designed, in my opinion God of War 2 has surpassed Mario and many other classic games as one of the best designed games ever, note that the fun only lasts the first time or so through, after that it gets stale, but the first time through. God of War 2 is just screaming at you like the guy in gladiator "Are you note entertained?".

One of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, the art direction is what makes god of War 2 in my opinion, the art itself helps tell the story, its like they lifted the game directly from the persons imagination and planted it on the PS2 with minimum errors or loss of information, too bad every game cannot be transfered and envisioned as well as God of War 2

First things first, I finally had a chance to play this last weekend and if I had to guess I'm probably 2/3 - 3/4 of the way through the game. The graphics, while only incrementally better than GoW1 are still very very impressive for a PS2. It really shows what the system is capable of and I wish every PS2 game could be this good. Fighting is good while pretty much the same as the first, puzzles aren't really that hard so far though I did have to look up the solution to one (and immediately slapped myself when I found the obvious answer), it seems like there are more mini-bosses this time around which rocks. So far it seems like the story is a little thinner than the first one, the opening was great and it seems like it's fallen off a little from there. What I really love about the game though is how "finished" it is, I bet they could have released it 6 months earlier and it would have been an alright game but there are so many places you can tell they spent extra time on the art for this or that to make it a little deeper, the little extra detail that just goes above and beyond that tells me they didn't have to do this but someone spent the extra time to do it right during development.

Anyways....check this out: http://www.islandofrhodes.org/index.html I'm guessing it's the PSP game expected later this year, doubt it's GoW3 but you never know, there's a PS2 logo at the bottom so could it be GoW 2.5 (add-on/smaller game) for PS2? Guess we'll find out in a couple weeks.

Wow, for anyone who has beaten the game in normal mode, go back through in God mode. I'm working through it right now. Really brings out a lot more of the game. In normal mode, brute force will get you past everything. Now in God mode I'm finding that brute force gets you killed real fast, really makes you learn all aspects of combat and how they work together in the different battles. But I don't know, I'm dreading that one stretch near the ending (to not give away spoilers).

Leave it to those pokey little puppies at GameFAQs to figure out that IsleofRhodes.org wasn't the suckfest we first thought it to be. On the story page of the website, after hitting proceed to bypass the video, there are hidden Greek letters. If you can spell Kratos by clicking on them in order and then hit proceed, you're in. Darksidez at the GF forums gave the locations:

Kappa (under iota, middle right)
Rho (upper left corner)
Alpha (bottom right, left of soldier's waist)
Theta (under upsilon)
Omega (upper right)
Sigma (bottom right, by soldier's foot)

Once you spell out the name and click proceed you're greeted by another video, this one regarding the pegasus flying sequence, and then another puzzle, this time a timed sliding dealie, which I hate. Once you get past that? Another page, this time containing instructions on how to unlock HD mode in the game.

But wait, there's more!

After that page, should you click on "You Seek An Audience With The Fates", you are greated by this:

Normals enough for me. I don't see any point in tearing my hair out and getting my blood pressure high just to try and beat it at any other difficulty. Sweet game but I likely won't play through the game again for a couple years(if then). Even though I ain't having any problems at all on normal going through it, I just always picked normal for all my games. I usually only beat a game once and loose interest. Some games I have to push myself to beat even though they are good. I just get to the point sometimes to where I wish it would end.

Heck I haven't even beat the game yet. Only about half way through. How many hours did it take you all?

Anyone have a PS2 that won't read this game? I bought an old PS2 off craigslist just to play this game, the latest Final Fantasy, and Guitar Hero 2 (which I'm borrowing from my brother). Final Fantasy and Guitar Hero 2 play fine. I've had 2 copies of GOW2 and neither one reads at all. In fact, a couple of the times I put the disc in, the drive made so much noise I thought it was going to explode :(

Mine takes a few seconds to load the disk, but mines almost 3-4 years old now.

Just finished GOD 2 good game. Didn't like the way it ended much. Took me around 12 hours on normal. Probably won't replay it anytime soon. I got TOO many games I need to play and beat as it is.

It took me and a friends 8 hours to beat it on normal. The only part I'd replay again was the jumping scene on the Island Of Creation.

I didnt want to make a new thread even though my opinion in this "god of war 2" orgy will probably get me beat down.

I just got it from Blockbuster and all I can say is: Total waste of 7 bucks.
Other than being pretty I honestly cant see what is so great about this game. I put about 3 hours into it last night and another 2 today (just to see if it was all a nightmare).
The gameplay is more along the lines of "nifty" rather than the "awesome" most everyone else seems to give it.
What scares me is this is supposed to be the example of console gaming at its finest.
I think you console lovers need to seriously consider getting outside or reading a book. Give up the games for a month, come back and actually play something FUN.

OK, I crapped on consoles and GOW2 in the same post. If anyone ever deserved a flame, its me.

It's just not your cup of tea. I'm a PC gamer first and a console gamer 2nd, and thought both god of war 1 and 2 are fantastic. It's got a lot of aspects that people like. The fighting isn't just button mashing. Well you can go that route, but if you know the combos you'll be doing better. The puzzles are quite entertaining and pretty varied to keep you in to it. The graphics are as good as you can get for that generation. It's got minor RPG elements in upgrading your weapons and whatnot. It's just a well rounded game that takes the best of several genres. But if you don't like it, that's too bad for you as you're one of the few that don't have tons of fun with it.

Well I did get stuck here and there and had to fight a boss or two a couple times so that could equal more time. It took me over a month to beat playing off/on so that tells you how much I game.

No biggie. Not everyone is gonna like it but most do. I got a friend who doesn't seem to like the series. Curious though what types of games do you like? GoW 2 is the reason for me buying another PS2(glad I found one for $30 shipped).

I'm at work right now. Give me 8 hours and I'll make a list with just the stuff I own right now.
Would take much longer to make a list of the games I've had and lost, or played and could not find for myself.
