God of War 2 is out March 13th and it's being called the final swan song of the PS2 (in a good way). The reviews coming in are amazing and basically the overall opinion seems to be that they fine tuned GoW1, took out the annoying stuff (stupid spike tower in Hades pissed me off) and cranked it up a couple notches. The original was definitely my favorite console game of all time and the new one should kick some serious ass.

I am definitely picking this up when it comes out. Right now I'm looking around for any potential pre-sale deals for the game but so far its 50 bucks everywhere. I'll buy it for that price if I can't find any sales though..I dont care..I want it! The game just looks tremendous for a ps2 (amazing for such old hardware) and I loved the first one.

If anyone finds any deals for the game before the game comes out please post it!!!!

I preordered through EB using code 'saver' for free shipping, that's the only thing I know of and that code might be invalid now since it was back in January when I ordered.

This is the only reason for me buying another PS2. Luckily I found a smokin deal on a v10 PS2 for $30 shipped with 2 games and memory card. Still can't believe it :D. Anyway I sold my other PS2 last year not long after beating the first, once I sold it I had decided not to get another PS2 ever again but with this being released I just had to. Now I can try out some games I missed like Bully,FF XII and a few others. I might hold on to this PS2 till it dies since I don't have much in it.

A little less than 2 years ago. It came out March 22, 2005. They didn't really bring anything that new to the table, but it is still supposed to be an awesome game.

Wow, that is a smokin deal. All this time, I have never owned one. I have missed out on some pretty quality titles.

May I ask where you got this killer deal?

And does the version matter in modding it?

And BTW, I can hardly believe this game is coming out tommorow. Looks great.

I found it on here:

Best site to get cheap consoles but alot on there are teens and you really gotta watch who you deal with. I got extremely lucky on the deal, someone just came along and pretty much wanted to get it out of the way it seems.

The current engine on PS2 developer systems is reported to be using up to 99.3% of the PS2's system resources (i.e. processing power) and has two user selectable high-resolution modes. The modes supported are 480p60 and 1080i30 for those who have the Component Video cables for the Playstation 2.

Holy crap, I just read this on the Wikipedia page...I didn't realize it was going to do 1080i.

Dammit... I just went to check at BB and they didn't have it in. I HATE how some games are in stores on the release date and others don't show up until a day or two later. I know some people claim that's because they are 'ship' dates, but they only give one date for all games. But games with a big advertising push (like Gears of War or Crackdown) will be on most store shelves on the release date, while others don't make it. Anyway, I thought God of War 2 would have been a big enough title that it would be there today... there was even a release party in San Francisco last night. Guess I'll check tomorrow :(

I was sorely tempted. We have an EBGames and Gamestop in the same area as Best Buy, but they too have been guilty of the same thing on most occasions. But the real reason I didn't bother was that I have some BB rewards certificates I need to use before they expire. If I buy it at BB I'll be able to knock $20 off.

the wiki says you can play in 1080i, but I thought this myth was debunked. Highest res will be 480p. Anyone that has the game have an answer?

I was playing it for a while last night. The highest resolution it displays with a PS3 is 480p - though it allows the game to be scaled such that when the tv stretches the 4:3 input signal out to 16:9, it looks like the proper aspect ratio.

And the damn sex scene is put back into the beginning of the game. The original God of War seemed the developers just wanted to see if they could get away with it. Now it's like they're really seeing how far they can push the boundaries. It's so pointless.

But the rest of the game is very good so far. It's pretty much the same game, same weapons so far, same attacks, same power ups. Maybe later in the game there will be some more additions.

I picked up the game at the Gamestop, and the whole time I'm there at the register, the person was giving me a lecture about how I should preorder games, how they didn't get their full shipment, they need to count the number of reserves, how many they received, etc. etc. etc. Oh well. I never preorder any game because, well, games are always available somewhere on the release date. If Gamestop doesn't sell me a copy, Best Buy or Circuit City will. ;)

motherfarker....I'm away from home for work this week as always so I really didn't care when the game showed up....I preordered from ebgames. I just wanted it there by Friday or Saturday so I could check it out over the weekend. Checked the tracking info and it's scheduled for delivery on Monday which means I won't be able to play until next Friday. Fvck.

Reporting in! Lets get this thread hope'n, guys!

Ok, so I got the game yesterday and (very excitingly) played the game for a few hours. I swear, I was sweating about 5 mins before I got home, clutching the game in my hands. I couldnt get home soon enough!

Anyway, here is my initial impression.

Let me just say that I adored the first GoW. I thought it was a marvelously contructed action game. It was about the closest thing to a flawless action game as they can come.

Well, I have to say -GoW2 just might be even better than the first one. Seriously.

Now, I could be jumping the gun here, totally! I've only put in a few hours into the game, so keep this in mind. But, my initial impression here is very very good. I mean, the game starts out with a HUGE bang. There is no beating around the bush here. There is no handholding. The action (seems) faster, more fun, and the game just all around tighter. Does that make sense? I don't want to give away anything, so I'm going to have to speak very generally -sorry. But there is only a slight flashback (at least as far as I've seen so far).

Also, I'm playing the game on my PS3 (via HDMI) and it's playing in 480P -not 720P. So, it appears that that was just a rumor. Also, I did pop it in to the PS2 and then my PS3 to see if there was a difference visually, and the quick answer is -only slightly. The actual visual fidelity is the same, but the PS3 suffers from some slight tearing here and there -but nothing really damaging. So, why, you ask? Why am I playing it on my PS3? Well, because of the wireless controller of course. :)

Is there a noticable difference between using the component video cables for PS2 over the RCA cables so that you can use progressive scan? I'm an idiot, (well, didn't have an HD TV--well, any TV with more than just a cable hookup--until recently) and didn't realize that I could get these for a PS2, and that they were necessary for progressive scan. GoW2 has the same flicker problem that GoW1 had. (a horizontal scrollling texture line. wondering if progressive scan will fix this...

As for the game so far....well. It's definately fun. I've gotten to the medusa temple thing, but have yet to be awed by anything. Too much of the same so far. New skills are pretty much repeats of the last ones (new animation being the only difference--pretty lame). Still no reason to upgrade anything other than your standard blades. The ass-kickery is there, indeed. Some of the new pwning animations are pretty sweet....but that's about it. Seems a bit easier than the first (I think b/c it's too similar--I had the first one down to a science). Puzzles are still pretty easy, so far.

I laughed.
If I ever get a lecture from some dude at gamestop about "responsibility," I think I'll shoot myself. :D

Yeah I haven't played it yet but I didn't expect it to be much different from the first as far as moves, weapons, ect. Only new level designs. Thats the problem with MOST sequels is they are pretty much the same with very few new features.

The first GoW is what prompted me to go out and finally get the component cables and I think it makes a pretty significant difference. You can find the cables here and there for ~$15...I think it's worth the investment if you have a good widescreen/HDTV even this late in the life of the PS2.

FWIW, it made a huge difference for Jak III, GoW I (haven't played 2) and Resident Evil 4. If you have a widescreen HDTV, pick them. Get a cheap set off eBay. No reason to purchase the official Sony ones.

ya...i've seen them between $5-20 when googled. I think i'll see if the gamestop has some cheap non-sony ones on my way home tonight. not sure if I want to wait around for ebay right now...
