Remember two things on AMD nvidia 4 boards never really worked.

1)Firewall: Piece of junk.
2)Quiet & Cool : Most people did not use it and most boards didn't really support it.

My guess is (Still don't have my chip & no mail on Monday 🙁 ) the intel feature has problems with OCing.

Your search for a fix is interesting. I gave up on quiet and cool early on.

I've now tried a second set of memory (PQI) and I still have the same problem.

The PC runs and I rarely turn it off but this still bothers me. Any ideas?

Some bios setting is messing with you is my GUESS. I'd clear cmos and load optimal settings.

What is the required volts for the PQI?
 
I'm having mouse/keyboard issues, and am desperately seeking suggestions. 🙁

I built the rig, and then installed Windows. Things seemed fine. Mouse/keyboard working both in the BIOS and in Windows.

Then I installed the latest .INF file for this MB. I reboot, and my mouse and keyboard don't respond when I get to Windows. I've made sure to enable USB mouse/keyboard support in the BIOS.

I've noticed that my keyboard lights go dark during the "PCI device listing" screen that shows just before Windows loads.

I've reset the CMOS just in case, but no luck. Booting into Safe Mode does not help.

Super frustrating as I can't control a single thing once within Windows. Any ideas?
 
I get a long beep on cold boot which manual said was RAM related. Tested the RAM overnight (7 hours) and no problems. Loaded optimized defaults in the BIOS and the beep disappeared. Narrowed the problem down to the CPU warning temperature which when disabled, no error beeps. When enabled at 70 or 80 I get the long beep. Temp is OK, mid-30s in the BIOS. How can I get rid of this damn beep without disabling the CPU warning temp?
 
is anyone having problems with the soft power on? I have a logitech wireless kb and mx700, i can't get the double-click to turn the computer on, nor the password for keyboard

edit: i think i'm screwd, both usb and wireless... 🙁
 
Gigabyte's site lists two SATA drivers; one for the F6/boot/OS load and another much larger one (2.27MB) for "Windows".

Do I have to load both, or just the smaller one on a floppy at boot?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to my C2D system. Got the E6400 for the higher multi and 2GB of Corsair PC800.

You need the small one during Windows installation if you are going to install on a disk connected to the purple SATA ports.

You need the bigger one inside Windows, for your JMicron to work correctly (i. e. the purple SATA ports + IDE ports).

Im getting a DS3 this friday, and tomstevens questions where the exact ones i had, thanks a lot for the answers.
So if im sticking to the 965 NB SATA, i just install WinXP in legacy bios sata mode, then install Intels drivers from windows and reboot, switch SATA ports and change to NATIVE SATA in bios?
Also, which RAM is the safest bet: Corsair Value, Kingston, or Transcend (all 667)?

Thanks for the help. I have not RTFM yet; downloading it now. But, my understanding is that there are TWO SATA controllers on the board, correct? One set of ports attached to the Intel chipset; the "F6 driver" is loaded for this and any drives attached to them. And another set of ports (purple) controlled by another chip, right?

So, once Windows is up and running, I load the larger driver for the JMicron controller, and I can then use the purple SATA ports.

Am I correct? Thanks for the help. :thumbsup:

Yes, you are right. For the easiest way to install Windows see previous post by Sorgon2 - if you keep the native ICH8 (intel chipset) ports in legacy mode (which is default), Windows installation will see it without need for any F6 drivers.
After that install Windows drivers, reboot, set the Intel SATA to native mode (to get full speed) or even switch the disk to the JMicron (the other SATA/ATA controller) port and Windows will boot just fine.

Btw if someone is interested in comparision of ICH8 SATA vs. JMicron SATA, I did some measuring with HDTach, comparing speed when HDD is attached do ICH8 and JMicron. I have Seagate 7200.10 (SATA2, NCQ) so I expected at least some boost from JMicron, due to NCQ support. However, the transfer rates were equal, seek times equal, burst transfer rate was higher with ICH8 (250MB/s vs. 220MB/s) and furthermore, when the HDD is connected to JMicron, SpeedFan (nor any other program I tried) can't read SMART data from it.
Therefore the conclusion for me was to connect the disk to ICH8 port.

Is that how it works? Each stick runs at half of the rated speed? Or is something wrong with my RAM?

Well, there are 2 tabs in CPU-Z:
Memory - this shows the actual speed, timings etc. of your RAM
SPD - this shows SPD information stored in your RAM sticks. My Geil DDR2-800 also return some nonesense (max. speed 533 or so I think).

So if it is the "SPD" tab that shows this info, don't bother with it.

Why the hell does Gigabyte make their friggin' SATA port configuration so damn CONFUSING!?!
Well anyway,
I have already installed a number of programs without doing any of the above steps for SATA hard drives. Do I have to format/re-install to do these steps to get the performance or can I do it now?
 
How can I check if I have properly flashed to the latest BIOS? My BIOS screens go by so fast I can barely pick out any information. What will it say and where do I look for it?
 
I just order the Ds3 from Bewegg to repalce my asrock. Anyway know will a pair of PNY Optima Memroy can boot DS3? Part number is D21GX53opt. If not i still have time to cancel the order since it didn;t ship out today. I look everywhere and i can;t fidn the memory's default voltage.

TheSlamma, what became of this?

I have the exact same memory you do, and I'm also having similar problems as you (ONLY during gaming, but not for 20 minutes; usually it takes hours upon hours (yeah, I leave FFXI running for many hours sometimes)). It doesn't happen when using Sandra (I can benchmark + burn-in test for hours w/out any problem).

I haven't tried adjusting the voltage or running memtest86. I should try memtest86 (I'm quite familiar with it). The memory you and I are using is supposedly "specced" for 1.9V (whatever that's supposed to mean), but I've always left the BIOS to decide what the voltage and speeds should be (so that probably means using 1.8V and letting the SPD decide).

Also, what *version* is on the actual DIMMs? I believe mine are v5.1s.

I'll run memtest86 later tonight too and see if I get occasional errors as well. If we both do, we should probably present this information to either Corsair or Gigabyte. If it turns out to be Corsair's problem, this would be the SECOND time I've had problems with their RAM, and I knew I shouldn't have bought their stuff again... sigh.

(NOTE: I've been posting about my problems with the C1E BIOS feature on this board, but as I found out a few days ago, I've been completely wrong: I had the system lock up while that option was DISABLED! So it's not that BIOS option which is doing it. I'll post about that in a moment...)
