what's up with the 3 second commercials they have for this game? thought they were kind of odd how short they were. saw 2 different ones last night during big brother.

Is the MP gonna be all melee/shotgun dodge dodge again or are we gonna have some stand up fights this round?

Meh gears has never been about stand up fights. All you need to do is duck behind cover. If the beta is any indication of the final product it's a whole lot of melee/shotgun and OHK explosives.

just preordered...

i just check ebay.. the kantus code from amazon is selling for like $30 a pop.

I thought they weren't sending the codes till the game shipped? Haven't got mine.

u read the sales they say they will send you the code on release day..

when i get my code ill see what the market is like and if its still high ill prolly sell mine or try.

I've had it all weekend. Easily the best in the series.

MP is largely unchanged from the beta.

Campaign and Horde modes held my interest, which is rare. So that says something about how good the game is. There was one (extremely huge) background element that I didn't like with Marcus' storyline, but whatever. All the other guys were fleshed out nicely. The Cole train stuff was hilarious.

There's no way the Gears universe ends here, however. While Marcus and co. have come to a logical stop, there's plenty of room for other stories.

Reviews so far are very positive, with nary a complaint to be found. Gears 2 was a great game in my opinion, minus the apocalyptic matchmaking and a few minor annoyances with the campaign.

I played a few rounds of local KOTH and the gameplay is pretty damn tight. I wasn't in the beta so I can't compare, but cover activation is freaking perfect. The shawed off shutgun is kick ass. I like replacing my main gun with a gnasher so I run around with a sawed off, take a shot, and then swap to the gnasher in case I need to finish them off.

I was contemplating coming down with a 24-hour sickness, but I only have one left to burn. Guess I will stay up late playing it.

I really want to rent this but I'd like to beat the 2nd one first so I know what the hell is going on as far as the story goes.

about 150 ppl at my gamestop last night. Guy next to me won the limited edition straight up on a raffle...ohh so close. I played until about 4am. First launch day game in a long time (probably since Reach) that I don't regret getting at midnight on day one. 4 player campaign coop is really good. Beast mode is mp mode of the year. Haven't tried horde mode yet, but beast mode is too addicting.

I've had the game for a few days now and am nearing the end of the SP campaign, so I think I have a fairly good idea of what this game offers. Though I'm probably one of the last people who should be talking about a Gear game, I'll try to answer any questions you folks may have.

As for my overall opinion, here's the short of it:

Mechanically the game feels great. Guns have about the right amount of kick, and there are a ton of weapon-types to use too. I think I've sunk about 10 hours into the SP game so far, so it's pretty substantial in terms of content.

It's a gorgeous looking game on a technical level, but I have to admit that I'm just not a big fan of what they're doing with that tech. To me the Gears series has always looked too drab with textures' ham-fisted use of greys and browns caked onto every surface. It's just not my thing.

Marcus's gravely voice has always bothered me, but it seems like the voice actor has dialed up the angst for the role which reduces this character to an even more absurd level of unbelievable--even in this fiction.

However, overall, I think if someone was a fan of the original two, they will find this to be the best in the series. It really is a fun video game, and the amount of content is fantastic between SP and MP (the coop is really really well done).

I think it says something that though I'm not a big fan of the fiction, I'd still buy this game for all the gameplay/content the Gears package has to offers.

Looking forward to that beast mode when I get home tonight. Horde is so good. There's so much to do now. Fortifying your areas, boss fights, weapon drops... they went all out with this one. Major props. Can't wait to do co-op campaign with my family and friends. Gears is the game that got me back into console gaming.
