This is shaping up to be another 2009 for me.

Starting in October it was Forza 3, Tekken 6, Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: AA (OK, so I didn't get that at release), and MW2.

This year we'll have Gears 3, Rage, Forza 4, Battlefield 3, and MW3. AND...potential (still dreaming, I know) Diablo 3 which will = Xbox 360 offline for months straight.

So far I would have to say gears 3 looks like it will be a great shooter. I don't care for trenches. If you are playing a really good and smart team, you can get spawn trapped pretty badly. But I have actually had a good time with the beta.

Haven't had any lag issues in my first 10 matches and weapons actually register. Much better than Gears 2 so far.

Played the beta a good bit today. A vast improvement over gears 2, the bayonet charge is freaking hilarious, although getting the timing down is tough.

I completely agree. I hated Gears 2 multiplayer at the beginning. Gears 3 feels more like a "shooter" to me, dk why tho

Well, for starters the latency isn't so bad that the host is the only person playing the game while everyone else watches frames of it. Gears 2 has to be the buggiest release game I've ever played, it was appalling.

The bayonet charge does baffle me. I snuck up behind someone last night, gave what I thought was plenty of room, and charged. I barely poked him, then he turned around and shotgunned me. How do you know if it's going to be a kill or not? It's annoying.

Also, I wish it flashed up what the different executions for downed opponents are more than once, I've got take hostage (X), weapon execution (Y), and quick kill (B), but what is curb stomp and what is "beat them to death?" I've done both on accident but it's been so long since I played years that I can't remember what they are now.

Hey dude, I sent you an invite but you were netflix-ing it up.

Anyways, here's what I know so far. Advanced Executions are weapon based and have to be unlocked.

(X) - meatshield
(Y) - tap for curb stomp
- hold for weapon based execution
(B) - quick kill

for the "beat them to death w/ their own arm", you switch to the pistol and HOLD (Y). Then you keep mashing (Y). The person wont respawn until you've finished :)

The Lancer execution throws the enemy into the ground then plunges the chainshaw into him and revs it up. The Retro Lancer stabs them with the bayonet and then slices them through the neck when they fall to their knees.

Edit: Also, if you are holding a meatshield, you can press up on the d-pad to tag him with a grenade and kick him towards a group of enemies. If you don't have any grenades on you, you will take whatever the meatshield has and use that. Its pretty sweet. I recommend doing it once for the laughs alone.

Oooooooh, yeah, I always end up holding Y for weapon executions, didn't realize a tap would stomp 'em. Thanks for the info.

I think the shogun weapon execution is pretty boring, should be spiced up a bit. New Lancer execution is awesome, I still dunno if anything will beat the Torque Bow kill from Gears 2 (dunno if it's in Gears 3).

I saw your invite last night Pimp but my wife was about to start watching Netflix. I played later on after she got in bed but you were off by then.

Hey Kabob, sorry I couldn't take your invite, was playing with a bunch of friends.

The bayonet charge baffles the hell out of me as well. Always works against me, but I have yet to have it work on the enemy. I find that the saw'd off is cheap at times, but using it does leave you vulnerable, so there's some balance there. I love the zoom in with the hammerburst as well. Feels like I'm playing COD again sometimes.. haha.

I've yet to use the Hammerburst, I had a guy destroy me with it last night though. I just love the close/mid range stopping power of the Retro Lancer, recoil is awful.

Hammerburst was my go-to gun in Gears 2 but I haven't gotten used to the new sights yet. It is definitely the best gun if you have the skills. I've seen people fire that thing so fast that I thought they had a modded controller.

The Retro Lancer is great but I think the clip is too small. By the time I down a guy, I have to reload to take them out half the time. I love the gun but that issue was enough to make me start using the Lancer again. I like the Lancer a lot in this version for some reason.

I'm going to try practicing with the Hammerburst again soon too.

I was having the same issue with the Retro last night. The recoil is also such a huge pain that I've started aiming at feet so it will stay on the enemy's body for at least the next two shots.

The Chainsaw Lancer is great to use to keep shotgun runners at a distance.

Sorry I missed your invites Kabob. I was oblivious to the first one and doing my last round of KOTH when you sent the next one.

I hated the Retro Lancer at first but after accepting that the recoil would be awful I found it to be better than the Lancer in most situations. Seriously, it hits so hard you can stop shotgun rushes with the thing. I just read that the hip firing accuracy is about as good as the aimed accuracy and that's the biggest complaint, you don't even have to aim the thing at close quarters, I'll have to test it out myself.

Bayonet charge is what I like most, although I didn't get nearly as many kills with it later in the day as I did in the morning yesterday. Guess people discovered that they have to beware.

Almost at level 12 already, played 49 matches yesterday and one before work, so Cole Train is unlocked.

No problem, we'll team up in the near future!

I started using the retro lancer after some a-hole with a sniper was at a good snipe spot and I couldn't beat him with the hammerburst, but everytime I got close he'd pull out the retro and pwn me. That thing is deadly at close range, sometimes better than the gnasher. Another thing is, that saw'd off, as long as you get in close and pull the trigger they are dead.. don't even have to be looking at them. Pretty cheap gun, but again it does leave you vulnerable.

They need to buff the damage to the normal Lancer. In Gears there's a little action at super long ranges (Longshot/Oneshot/Mortar/Hammerburst) and the rest is in your face. The Lancer tries to fill that gap between the ranges of the Retro Lancer and the Hammerburst where it just isn't as useful. I agree, the chainsaw is friggin' awesome but with more damage it'd be a better weapon all around. Up close though the Retro eats it for dinner and out far the Hammerburst outclasses it clearly.

I think it is balanced in that sense. It deals less damage, but with the chainsaw is a one hit kill if you do it right. If I have the hammerburst or retro and try to melee you for whatever reason, it won't be a one hit kill.

True, but Retro has a charging instakill as well. Sure, you have to get a running start but it's just as deadly as the chainsaw (which, if you're shot while revving, you drop) AND it doesn't alert the entire enemy team to your location.
