Was wanting to post this bit of info for everyone and figured we may as well go ahead and create an official thread for the game.

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GameStop (NYSE: GME), the world's largest video game and entertainment software retailer, today announced that it will host midnight release events for Fallout 3 by Bethesda Softworks at over 1,600 stores nationwide. Starting at 10 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2008, customers can visit their local GameStop and be among the first to get their hands on the new game at 12:01 a.m.

Participating GameStop locations will begin their events at 10 p.m. local time; however, customers are encouraged to contact their local store to confirm details.

Fallout 3, available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, offers players new modern HD graphics and innovative ways to view the world in 1st or 3rd person. New features include a new combat V.A.T.S. system with the ability to pause time and target specific body parts for attack, as well as the ability to customize your character with the SPECIAL Character System and take on the world outside the Vault 101.

To participate, visit a local GameStop store for details. To find a local store, log on to www.gamestop.com, and search using the 'Store Locator'.

I'm looking to see if there are any extra goodies being given away for participating in the midnight launch. I so want to get the collector's edition for this because I want the lunchbox. I'm not going to have the money to even buy the game at regular price when it comes out though. <sobs>

I'm really looking forward to this game, but I don't think I'll be getting it 'til later in the year.

I've never played Fallout before, but all of this talk about it is making me want to splurge on the fancy (and expensive) Amazon version :p.

Fallout 1 & 2 have been added to Good Old Games for $5.99 each, drm free.

I think they're also up on Gametap.

That Good Old Games site looks pretty cool. I saw an article about it on Ars yesterday. I'm tempted to try some of those games out.

Yep. The good thing is that I don't have to worry about upgrading my PC to play them!

 Exactly! I'd love to play some of the newer PC games, like The Witcher and the upcoming Diablo 3, but I simply don't have the specs, or the desire to spend money on a new rig.

I just re-played Fallout 2 about a month back.. It still holds up pretty well if you give it a bit.

I'm getting conflicted reports on the length of the game. Producer (Todd) for the game says 100 hours, actual European reviews say 50 at best (10 for main story, 35-40 for side quests).

Those are probibly in Euro hours.. The US hour is valued considerable less, so it is probibly the conversion factor we are seeing here.

I live in Rockville, so I am damn tempted to go there, buy a copy, and get it signed by Todd Howard. We shall see.

Heh, same here. Bethesda is about a 15 minute drive from here. Sometimes I just want to knock on their office doors and start telling them about the many flaws of Oblivion. It had the possibility of being one of the best games ever, and the modders made that reality even if Bethesda didn't.

The nearest Gamestop here is the one at Fallsgrove, but they're really small and I doubt it's opening for midnight. I'll probably just buy it online.

Depends on your setup. PC is usually better if you have the hardware to run it. It's also a Windows Live title so it supports XBOX 360 gamepad and achievements so if you can play it from your couch. I, like many others have a HTPC so I will be enjoying this game in 1080p (1920x1080) on my HTPC from my couch, gamepad and all.

Wait, what? Windows Live title? I use live on my 360, I didn't know it applied to PC games. Could I play this on my desktop and hook at 360 controller up to it? I wonder how flawlessly controls will switch between KBM and controller? Wow, time to google.

Yeah, now that MS made Windows Live free for the PC, so every game that carries the label offers a few things:

1. XBOX 360 (wired and wireless support), exactly the same as the 360 version.
2. Same achievements as the 360 version, although how they're implemented differs from game to game.

Flawlessly in my experience. I had my wired 360 controller plugged into my PC from playing Assassin's Creed, and I loaded up Crysis. I was playing Crysis, was getting shot at, and all of a sudden I hear this shudder next to me on the desk... Well, after getting over my near cardiac arrest, I realized that it was the 360 controller vibrating. I decided to pick it up and see how it handled. Without installing any drivers of anything, I was able to switch back and forth between KBM and controller flawlessly and seamlessly. That being said, a game like Crysis plays much better with KBM IMO, but the controller does work, and you can switch back and forth between the two on the fly.

...to use the wireless controller that came with your Xbox with your PC, you'll need one of these: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hard...ngreceiver/default.htm

Yeah the 360 controller works great on the PC. I love playing GRID on it. I hope more games start using the Windows Live system since it takes some of the best parts of the Live and brings it over to the PC
