This is, without a doubt, the scariest game I have ever played. I've been glued to it all day with the curtains closed and the sound cranked.
It runs decently on my system but it still chugs when there's lots of action on screen. I have:
Athlon XP 2400+
1.25GB DDR RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
I am running 800x600 in Medium settings, all the special effects in Advanced I have turned on. I might do some experimenting later to see how each one affects performance.
This game is so good that I am debating ordering new parts as we speak just to play it better.
And for those of you overclocking your video card, good luck doing it with Doom3. I had mind mildly o/c'ed since I first got it and no games have ever showed any artifacting -- until Doom3. Carmack wasn't lying when he said that people o/cing might have problems as Doom3 accesses certain transistors on the GPU that no game has used before, so extra heat is generated.
Everything about this game is good. It's freakishly dark and you will find yourself using your flashlight 90% of the time and I'm not joking. I find it best to bind the flashlight to one of your extra mouse buttons so you can quickly switch back and forth between the flashlight and your current weapon.
The PDA feature is great. It's not just something thrown in - it is crucial to the game.
Two big thumbs up so far, and I am not very far yet.

Was curious, since you seem to have scored a copy of the game. Without spoiling too much, I have a few questions:
1) When you look down, do you see your feet, like in Theif 3? Or are you a "floating head" like in all other id games?
2) How big, really, is the full install?
3) Are there loading screens? Or does it transition like HL1 where there is a little "loading" in-game?

1.) No feet, but when you bring up your PDA, you see his arms swing up and bring the PDA to his face.
2.) 1.51GB on my system
3.) There was a loading screen transitioning from one block of the compound to another, not sure if there's going to be more.
Graphics are very nice, I wasn't impressed with the textures but the lighting and character animation is INCREDIBLE. So far it's been very immerive.
Played at 1280x1024 @ high quality and it was very smooth, very playable. I might try 1600x1200 @ high quality to see how it goes. Just for kicks, I tried 1024x768 @ ultra quality for a few minutes and suprisingly it played well too, there were some hitches where it seemed to be loading textures but it was smooth 80% of the time. I couldn't see much difference between high and ultra quality though. This is on a stock Athlon 64 3200+, stock BFG G6800 GT OC, Asus K8V SE Deluxe, and 1GB of HyperX PC3500 memory.
One thing I did notice is I couldn't get surround sound working on my 4.1 setup (Audigy 2 and classic Klipsch v2.400's), so I changed my speaker settings to 5.1 in Windows Control Panel and checked off the surround sound option in Doom3. I could get speech in my front two speakers so evidently the center channel isn't required, just a FYI for you 4 channel users.

Are you serious?
That would be the BFG9000 I would assume. Big F0|<ing Gun!BTW, as you all know the BF9000 makes a return. I haven't used it yet but I just saw it in action in the distance (another marine was using it) [/b]

Daaamn slow at 1024x768 High Quality. When There's no monster on screen it's fine but on mildly intense fights it stutters. Actuallt on some of the bigger, complex rooms it also bogs down a lot.
I love this game, but i need my 6800GT!!!!!
So far got stuck mid way through the game, oh yeah and the BFG9000 is not as awesome as i expect it to be but the shotgun kick serious butt!! chainsaw is very nice, it will slice and dice through all sorts of monsters easily but you gotta be up close and get very personal with the uglies
Berserk mode pickup is still there and it is cool![]()

my question: can ANY light be shot out, thus darkening a room?

So it's "out-out" as in warez. I don't know if it's cracked but FLT has a keygen and trainer already. Activision are idiots for enforcing an embargo. I have the (moral) choice of sitting on my hands until Tuesday evading spoilers, screenshots, and reviews or getting it in an hour via torrent. I would have gladly plopped down my $55 on Friday to have it for the weekend.
Of course I am not warezing it. I already pre-ordered and will continue to wait for my legal copy. I won't even consider warezing then buying. Takes a lot of the thrill out of buying the real deal IMHO. Something tells me most people are not going to take the same route as me. Stupid Activision.
