Best Buy is even having some stores open at midnight on the 3rd just to sell the game. there's no way they'd spring it out early.

You might have it in the back warehouse, but no way for sale, no way.

Well, suit yourself... All I can really do is give my word. We've sold em, not only to employees, but also to customers... one of which was the manager of the local "gamestop" (a games store) who was wondering how we had it available.

I'm going in to work again at 11, it'll be interesting to see how the display is doing... if we're sold out or whatever. I'll let you guys know, maybe take a pic if I have some down time. Even still, I'm not buying one... 60 bucks is too much for a game! 'Specially when we can wait two weeks and the price will drop 20 bucks.

I just called my local Best Buy in Lexington, KY, and they said they were putting it out on the 2nd, which is Monday.

I called all the Best Buys here on Long Island (NY) today (Saturday).

They all say it does not go on sale until Tuesday, 8/3.

As a matter of fact the BB newspaper flyer that came today makes a big deal out of an event at one of the local stores here where they are inviting people to come get in line starting at 10:30pm Monday night in order to buy the game at Midnight. Maybe I'll go.

As per my local EB, everyone "has" it but no one is supposed to sell it until the 3rd. EB will be selling it on the third, and best buy will have a midnight release party (unsure whether it will be 12:00am on the 3rd or 4th though).

The local BBs did sell a few copies before the manager found out. Any stores selling it early will most likely be fined or similar. I guess there's a reason why BBs usually don't get games on the release date... their employees are not to be trusted.

Any store which sells copies prior to August 3rd (Best Buy near me is having a midnight "Doom 3 Party") will be fined $200 per copy sold. This was a mistake that happened in several Best Buys, the stores near me have already taken down their displays.

7/31 UPDATE! - DOOM3 A NOT GO IN MY AREA!!

Ok guys, here the deal. I went to my local Best Buy and it looks like they are getting the shipment and putting it onto store shelves on Tuesday. Hrmp! However, the good news is I also called EB and it looks like they're reacting to the hype (and maybe the Gamestop rumors) and are going to get it next-day shipping and try to get it on Monday! I was pretty excited to hear this.

Well, sorta...but not really. id never really had a release date. Their release date has always been "when it done". But there have been alot of guess from peeps.

Doom 3 First Impressions
I picked up the game on a whim at Best Buy in Madison earlier today, so I figured I would throw out a few impressions. After playing through the first few levels, I've got a few impressions of the game.... It's been very enjoyable so far, and very immersive. ID really out did themselves. It feels a lot like Half Life in the way the story is presented and how the environment is introduced. Just a few quick points:

1. This is the scariest game you have ever played. SS2, Half Life, Silent Hill, pail in comparison. The lighting isn?t the only reason, but it helps. Basically it feels built from the ground up to terrify.

2. The shotgun sounds dead on to what it should be.

3. So far the levels have been straight linear, but still give the immersion that you are only trouncing around in small part of a much larger complex.

4. I'm playing on a GeForce 4 TI4600 @ 800x600 medium detail, and it's very playable. System is a P4 3.0C @ 3.8Ghz, 1 Gb Ram.

5. Enemies take far to long to take down: Imps especially take a few shots with the shotgun.

6. There are load screen between levels.

7. There is a ton of hidden areas to be found, exploring is defiantly rewarded and encouraged.

last thursday I called the EB Games I have held a preorder with for many months now...

Im hoping to get the game as SOON AS POSSIBLE because on the 13th I move into a dorm at GA Southern Univ. and i wanna be able to blast doom3 at midnight for as many days as I still can good thing my desktop AND laptop are freakin coming with me!

anyway, the girl told me that the game is officially out on wednesday hahaha...but if they get them in on the 3rd THEY WILL CALL ME AND I SHOULDNT GO IN UNLESS THEY DO hahaha. i said, it appears a number of other game stores will be selling the game on monday, and she said well if they get them in and they call me then I can pick it up, but thats assuming they get them on time...

then she proceeded to tell me about how some other game was late arriving cause of storms up north like 2 weeks ago or something, whatever.

anyway, you can bet ill be calling them tomorrow or monday to follow up they might not CALL ME but maybe theyll say sure come get yours, if i call.

Jeezus, I'm going batty here! I keep seeing more and more peeps posting about how they scored a copy of D3 at BB.

WTF is up with the speciatly stores (gamestop, EB, Software Ect)! BB has it to the shelves 3 days before you? I know its agaist activisions rules, but who cares. The game is out, seel the sh!t!

It's Activision, not id. I would think it's smarter to release when the stores have it and before the pirates release it. I am getting sick of seeing screenshots. I am going to stop looking so there is some suprises left over to look foward to.

I think they missed a great guerilla marketing kind of opportunity to start rumors of an early release on major message boards and surprise everyone. Sales would have gone through the roof with the hype IMHO. Think of how many will try to go find a warezed copy, end up playing that, and never bother to buy the game.
