IT'S DONE!!!!!!!

Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing!
It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with
Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally
GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our
numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made.

So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting
at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of
your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with
your local retailer for that information.

Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves. The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (que Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland). This isn't
because we don't have love for you folks outside the U.S., but the localization and manufacturing process
takes a bit longer outside the U.S. where we will have JVC run 24/7 to get the units built. I guess the
European manufacturers prefer to give their employees nights and weekends off. Go figure!

The champagne is flowing here at id and smiles abound!

I'll update again with some DOOM 3 preparation tips (not what hardware to buy - you'll have to wait for
a programmer for that sort of thing). In the meantime, I want to see those "DOOM 3 GOLD!!!" threads set
new records for swamping message board servers, destroying productivity, and post counts ;-)

Recapping today's headlines....DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

Someone PLEASE confirm that multiplayer will be available for the PC version. I know the XBOX version has multiplayer (confirmed at E3)... but someone tell me the PC version will!

Yes, the PC version will have multiplayer. In fact there will be a big tournament at Quakcon in August featuring Doom3.

Doom 3 goes gold
id CEO Todd Hollenshead confirms last week's rumors that the long-awaited shooter sequel will arrive in stores the first week of August.

Confirming last week's rumors, id CEO Todd Hollenshead today sent out an e-mail today revealing that Doom 3 has gone gold. "IT'S DONE!!!!!!!," he calmly announced. "Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing!"

Earlier this morning, Hollenshead personally confirmed the e-mail's legitimacy to GameSpot. "It's authentic," he said. Shortly after 11am PDT, the news was officially confirmed by a press release from Activision's external PR agency, which aptly cried, "see you in Hell!"

The rest of Hollenshead's message--viewable via his .plan file--was equally ebullient, and gave details of the game's final hours in development. "We literally just hung up with Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made."

Hollenshead also broke down the game's exact US release schedule. "Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting at 12:01 AM on August 3rd," he announced. "The official street date is actually August 5th in the USA, but some of your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first."

The id CEO also divulged the game's international plans. "Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves," he said. "The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (cue Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland). This isn't because we don't have love for you folks outside the U.S., but the localization and manufacturing process takes a bit longer outside the U.S. where we will have JVC run 24/7 to get the units built."

Given Doom 3's nearly half-decade in development, Hollenshead was understandably ebullient. "The champagne is flowing here at id and smiles abound!" To learn more about the game's long and winding road to release, check out GameSpot's extensive previous coverage.

There were no announcements regarding the Xbox version of Doom 3, which is being developed by Vicarious Vision and is scheduled to ship this fall.

Hmmm... why wasn't it reviewed in that PC Gamer review? They probally reviewed a beta or the review could be fake.

Blah, my ATI 9700 Pro seems soo outdated now. I swore I'd never upgrade until something necessitated it. LOoks like it's time.

I confirm this. I think there are 4 maps but only DM and Team DM are available. As the USA and UK seem to be partners in everything, it's only fair that we should get the game on the same day....D@mn... 😉

YEs. There are 2 versions both of which are DVD. There is a standard and Special Edition apparently. Here you go...

Welp, time to upgrade the 2.2G XP and the Ti4200 finally.
This has been so long in the coming that I'm kinda numb when it finally happens, like I can't believe it...

Will HL2 finally be released too? :Q

😀

Why would they fake the review like that? Maybe he just didn't write about it?
