Facepalm moment last night...

Score a 2500 DPS leg, got too carried away and tried to put a socket in it, cost a bundle of legendary mats + gold..... it's a fookin 2H for my Wizz and still no socket after like 10 tries 🙁

My enchantress on the other hand just got a 100K DPS boost!

Don't run a 2H on a wizard, you will lose too much dmg over a decent 1H and a source.

Move it to a Crusader or Barb and re-roll the INT for STR.

Interesting thing I found out last night from a friend, evidently when a weapon has +% damage on it it either isn't applying (or maybe only applies to the base weapon damage) if the added damage type is elemental - however if you re-roll it to "black" damage then the % increase applies to the added damage as well and can create some pretty substantial DPS increases. He found a Wildwood with a socket, high STR, +10% damage and "ok" poison damage around 21xx DPS. He re-rolled a handful of times to get a good black damage roll and ended up around 24xx DPS.

+% dmg only applies to actual weapon dmg, not any added elemental dmg.

I seem to have a really hard time finding legendaries worth a crap. I think the drop rate for legendaries is OK, but the issue is 99% of the ones that drop for me are either not an upgrade over anything I have on (often even yellow items), or something I really can't use on my Wizard like a two-handed axe or a shield. The other night I got a decent belt....for a crusader. I've been sitting at around 200K dps on my wizard since shortly after I hit 70, and it's like I hit a wall with upgrades. I've tried the mystic to improve some of the ones I have gotten, but I can never get the roll I want, and I can only afford to re-roll an item once or twice before I need mats again.

I enjoy play the game itself though, but I think I'm having more fun playing through again on new characters than grinding for upgrades on my 70 Wizard that don't seem to come. When you're leveling a new character, everything is an upgrade!

Sounds like you are having shitty lucky :/ I just got the expansion on Monday and I hit 70 within a day and went from 88K DPS (pre 2.0 60 gear) to now 300K+ dps. It's been great.

It's not that bad. You can reroll 1 stat, and use crappy legs for mats. I need more crappy legs to improve my half decent ones. Tried 8 times to get cc on my tals ammy, but no luck. Got ias at least. Gonna try some more tonight. What I also like doing is changing secondary stat to -level for my other toons, so I can be op when leveling them to 70.

Forgotten souls can be a real bottleneck, and gems can too for jewelry. My one friend has been trying like mad to re-roll crit damage onto a pretty exceptional Haunt of Vaxo he found. I had to burn through a ton of them getting the right resist on my set Raiment of Storms helm as well.

1. I think it's one of whichever act has a "bonus" attached to it to lead you to completing that act first.

2. They are random. I've seen all of the acts give the bonus.

3. I thought that was part of the bonus, but it could just be a random chance for the shards being rewarded. Really not sure about this one since I hadn't paid close enough attention to when I'm getting them and when not.

So I was able to fix the problems (well, 1 and 2 at least). I had to finish beating the campaign mode. I was missing some part/quest even though I had beaten Mal already. I haven't tested if 3. still exists, but I'm confident it will have fixed itself.

I found a legendary 1hs last night called the 'fulminator' - anyone else have one? It has a secondary effect where lightning damage "has a chance to turn enemies into lightning rods, causing them to pulse weapon damage as lightning every second to nearby enemies for 6 seconds"

It seems pretty sweet - it adds dmg to lightning skills, int, ias, but the damage was around 2100 (still a massive improvement for me) + a socket, I put a 115% crit damage gem in there.

I'm asking because I use electrocute, and while I see the skill going off sometimes I tend to mow down the trash mobs quite easily at torment 1, so the tick damage isn't really worthwhile (rift bosses at torment 1 can take me a minute or two to take down).

So either I need to jump to torment 2, or the effect on this sword isn't that great?

BTW, is there any benefit to having a full set of similarly-named gear, like "...of the Bear" or "...of the Lion"? Didn't see any info in the game about it.

Not sure about D3 specifically, but in the other games "of the Bear" was just the name for the effects you got from it. If your helm of the bear gave you +strength, then so would boots.

Sets were something else IIRC and they would tell you in the item description if they were part of a set, and what boosts you got by wearing multiple pieces of the same set.

This is all from memory though so I may be wrong, or it may have changed in D3

These are magic properties they don't stack like set items do. You just get whatever added bonus it provides, like bear usually is knock back.

Armor and weapon sets with GREEN names are set items. They provide stacked benefits. Immortal King, Tal Rasha and the like are sets.

Only 5 of my items are legendary/set and I'm around 760k damage. One of those is lvl 60, one is crafted.

I've got 6 legendaries and 7 yellows and I'm at 250K unbuffed. Not finding much in the way of crit damage or crit chance stuff, I think that's messing with my DPS.

Got a second really nice leg 1h on the wiz, at default stats it was a slight upgrade over the one I had. Got a second set item, both have been amulets though. First is part of a 2 piece set, other has like 6 possible pieces.

I found a great pair of "Fists of Thunder" to 2set with my helm, huge dex and near perfect cc/cd/as (after a couple re-rolls) and a free +500 dex set bonus. And yet as I looked at them all I thought was "goddamnit, they have the wrong resist on them" lol. I may swap to cold resist just for them eventually - it's actually pretty stupid easy to find replacement rares with a specific resist now, possible exception made for rings/amulets though. My belt will be troublesome as well.

This is what I run, but I got pretty lucky and rolled one with 2300+ dps and added a socket. The ticks help, but really aren't that much because one or two of my frozen orbs pretty much kills all trash on T1.

Gotta roll it. 130% from a flawless Royal emerald in a weapon socket too. Im at 46% cc, 515 cdmg on my dh.

I've had nothing but luck rerolling the single resist (it is 137 every single time, possibly a bug, but I'm not complaining).


Someone in my party found a legendary cross bow last night and it made me one sad panda. =( I am around 800k dps now. I really want to find some set pieces though; 3 piece nats would be phenomenal!

That's where I run into the issue, I don't have the mats or gold to keep rolling for stats on stuff. I started D3 shortly before the auction house went offline, and didn't purchase any gold. Everytime I get some deaths breath and a new crap legendary to break down (or like last night when my only leg drop WAS a forgotten soul, if that counts) I head to the mystic to try to re-roll something on one of my good legendaries, but the RNG hasn't been very kind on those rolls. So at most I can attempt to re-roll the stats on one legendary maybe once or twice a day, a little more often on yellow stuff. Finally was able to get up to a royal emerald to put in my weapon the other day, that bumped me from under 200K to 250K.

If you don't have much gold I wouldn't bother with anything higher than an imperial emerald in your weapon(s). Imperial to flawless royal (top of the line) is only like ...~15% crit damage increase? It's not bad but you can probably do a lot better than that using the gold for other things.

For your armor sockets though it's pretty good, each gem upgrade is +60 (I think) main stat which really adds up.

It gets expensive. I was rerolling something to get perfect crit chance, and it was costing me upwards for 250k a roll (granted, I have rolled this like 30 times).


Rares aren't really worth it to reroll unless it is near perfect minus one stat. With the mystic and how often rares drop, you're more likely to find something better, or just off a little without wasting the money.


Also, if anyone is hurting for money, I suggest farming bounties on normal and gambling. You can sell the stuff to the vendor for some decent gold, rather than salvage it.
