Someone brought up gem costs with crafting and how expensive it will be. The AH is still going though right?

They removed the AH (or, at least, will, but I believe 2.0 patch removed it). So, not only do you get to find over 800 squares for your radiant star gem, you get to farm 16 million gold for it as well!

If they just removed the AH without any change to crafting, it is totally screwed.

Well, you were complaining earlier about the too high drop rates for items and how it's too easy to find end game gear, so consider the gem prices to be your motivation to play 300+ hours. LOL.

...I was just thinking that. Why do you need a radiant star right away? Someone was saying there are (or will be with the expansion) new gem tiers too, but I haven't tried to look it up.

I'll be honest though, I sure as hell wouldn't keep playing for hundreds of hours just to get the top tier gems lol.

It isn't a problem for me, as all my characters have the highest end gems and I still have some gold left on my account. But, for a new player, that is a near impossible undertaking to have to get anything past square gems.

You're complaining about a designed in gold sink. It's relatively optional as the power upgrade from the first and 2nd tier of upgraded gems past the flawless squares that drop isn't all that great.

How does anyone ever get the marquise or w/e if they're not botting or flipping items on the AH to then buy botted gems?

oh shoot, for real? It's all dependent on how much time you can put in it then. That's cool. Hmm.. this is interesting.

Actually I think after the patch Legendary and Set items are bind on account, so they can't be traded.

Kind of sucks. I never minded the AH, real money or otherwise. IMO they went too far in the other direction by totally eliminating the market for trades, etc. But whatever, I understand their reasoning.

The only way to trade sets or legendary items now is to be in the same game as the item drops in, for a player, and trade it within two hours.

That seems really strict but I wouldn't be surprised to see this relaxed soon.

The difference between the Radiant Stars and flawless squares is a lot, especially in weapons. And those, with all the materials, cost 16 million gold. The problem is that, as a gold sink, it makes absolutely zero sense now that there is no AH. Even materials wise, it is an incredible amount of resources (800+ flawless squares and a ton of tomes).

It being a gold sink when it is easy to get that much money is fine, it being a gold sink that takes 300 hours of playing to get ONE, is stupid. There is really no reason to even have gold in the game anymore. You can't trade it, you can't buy anything with it. It is used for crafting and repairs now.

Oh, have the revamped the cost of crafting / gems? I can tell you this, nobody will be able to afford a 100 million gold gem without the AH. At least, people who didn't have gold before this patch.

Radiant Star - 75,000
Perfect Star - 50,000
Flawless Star - 30,000
Star - 20,000

I leveled both my guys up to level 10 last night, that was relatively chea. Didn't look at cost yet for leveling up individual plans and such though.

It only requires gold to train them up to level 10 now. To craft them it requires 3 of the previous gems below perfect squares.

also the new gems are visible from the jeweler and are called imperial they do +100 for their respective stats. I can write up each of them if you guys really wanna know numbers but looking at the marquise they are only +62 stats so I imagine there will only be 1 new gem tier in the expansion.

I logged into my Barb and was paragon level 113. I dinged 114 shortly after. I did Torment level 3 just fine and level 4 was a little rough.

I am disappointed in how extremely slow my Barb moves now and how nerfed life steal is.

I wound up getting into the RoS beta about a month ago. As someone who feels Diablo 3 is utter garbage; RoS is a massive improvement to the game with the changes made.

This comes with a huge caveat though. It is a better experience to start a character, play through and do the whole progress thing of getting better gear. Because that's all you can do in the game. No trading and no PvP. If you're just wanting to play a decent single player game with no character development beyond gear progress, you'll really enjoy the game for a while.

All I did was make a Crusader and level up to 70 and then farm for a while. It was much better than the base game, plenty of upgrades consistently dropping until hitting a gear level that allowed me to start Torment. After that it dried up and it was grind bounties and get minimal upgrades.

The biggest thing that highlighted the huge issue that is coming with RoS was finding a Cindercoat with 20% to fire skill damage and 25% reduction to the resource cost of Fire spells. Allowed me to switch my Crusader to using mostly spell/rune combinations of fire damage attacks built around blessed hammer with aoe fire rune. It worked really well and was fun to play. Then I realized once the game comes out if I wanted to try that build again I'd have to farm endlessly hoping for that item to drop again with those same stats because I couldn't trade for one due to BOA...

Game is much improved, but is again built with massive inherent flaws like BoA. If they'd of done everything they have but just got rid of the AH and not had BoA I would of bought the xpac. Even though it's apparent the game will never have any real character development beyond gear progression, it would still be worth playing if not for BoA.

Blizzard really needs to stop making all of their games the same thing. D3 now plays much more like WoW. What is with this dreaded fascination with making their players complete quests for everything? I'm so tired of this.


This patch comes with a lot of things I just can't comprehend the reasons behind:

• Why did they change the difficulty tiers? It was fine the way it was, and just needed to be adjusted for higher level players with better gear instead of completely changed
• Why did they nerf the big spawns of monsters in the typical exp'ing zones, and add a little more to other areas that weren't typically exp'd in? This game is a hack'n'slash (meaning kill lots of monsters and get lots of exp), not a quest-driven game where your primary focus is to complete quests and kill small amounts of monsters
• Why was magic find bonuses removed completely from Paragon levels and difficulties? Maybe it was too much - belittling the purpose of having magic find on gear - so lower it, don't completely remove it
• Why was the Barbarian nerfed so hard? There doesn't seem to be a single build that makes that class even playable now. Yes, they were overpowered (since release), but no reason to nerf them into uselessness
• Why was Nephalem Valor removed and Pools of Reflection added? Softcore now seems to incite play a lot like Hardcore. If I wanted to play Hardcore, I would
• Why is life steal suddenly worthless and life-on-hit now the new thing?
• Why are the amounts of Pickup Radius so incredibly small on new gear? I swear, Blizzard doesn't know how to do maths and still thinks Feet = Yards

The game certainly feels a lot more like D2 now (which, don't get me wrong, is a good thing), but it came with a lot of caveats and issues with this version 2.0. One fun one (I had to troubleshoot for 6 hours), was that they broke the game for Crossfire. The client locks up the computer completely if you're running Crossfired cards. [Note to anyone that may have problems and can't figure it out.]

At this point I've seen no compelling reason to even accept the expansion as a gift, much less go back on my word of not paying for it myself.

I love the new patch. Can't wait for the expansion. D3 now hits my need for a mindless dungeon crawl. No need to think a whole lot which is what Diablo has been about. Loot comes and is actually exciting again and weird combos work on my monk instead of some classic cookie-cutter build.

Man, I'm really mixed about all this.

On one hand, I love that it's almost a completely new game, the drops and items seems pretty fun so far (like the nemisis bracers). On the other hand, I put 1k+ hours into the game.. everything is worthless now... uggh.

Played a couple hours yesterday and the game feels right now. Personally I love the changes but no, I never was a "power gamer", didn't finished Inferno but was working on it, nerver abused of AH but bought some upgrades.

I never cookie cutted my builds and played the way I wanted. I use the strangest skill combos and it work for me. I never farmed XP and never wanted to. If I want to level i'll play the game, not the zones.

For someone who plays the game for fun, this new patch is awesome.
