Blizzard warned the CE art book contains spoilers. Watch at your own risk.

Could see nothing interesting in the video except a monster which looks similar to one seen in Titan Quest.

Certainly nothing I hadn't seen before in D3 released stuff.

Am I the only one initially disappointed about Diablo 3?

They completely botched the rune system from a dynamic combo one to a lazy ass fixed linear one.

Before you would socket runes which gave you different effects. Now they're not even 'runes' but an automatic passive effect fixed to each spells.

I was totally turned off by this. Anyone else?

I think the current system is slightly better (though I still dislike it), just because I was less than impressed with their rune system from the beginning. They tried too hard to create something different and IMO never had a functional system for the skills and associated character progression at all. Even they didn't know how the heck they were going to make it work...they wouldn't have scrapped it otherwise. I mean, one of the last changes to the game prior to release is a COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE SKILL PROGRESSION SYSTEM???

But yeah, I'm initially dissapointed. I think the game will still be enjoyable enough to justify purchasing it and playing through with a couple of classes, especially since it's free multiplayer, but I'd be surprised if the replayability is anything close to past Diablo games. I dissagree with their "illusion of choice" explanations for lack of character customization. They're just being a business and making choices that will attract a larger audience overall, which is to let people focus on the action (killing things and grabbing loot) and less on the old-timey RPG aspects (which I happen to like).

Instead of the usual kneejerk reaction, lets take a step back and look into the big picture.

Under the previous system each skill would have needed 6 runes to unlock all the effects, and that is just considering the max 7th level, in the course of the game you would needed 42 runes for a skill. Coupled that you have six active skills that would bring the tally to 252 runes. And all that hassle JUST to make skills work.

Long story short, you won't be playing D3, but Diablo 3 the Confusing Inventory Nightmare.

I always thought diablo 2's skill system sucked until they released the patch that added synergies between skills, and that wasn't until like 3 years after it came out.

Also something interesting I saw when I was looking this up, diablo 2 only had a metacritic score of 88 when it first came out, with an 8.3 from IGN and an 8.5 from gamespot. Just goes to show you how much harder it was to get a good score back then, nowadays they toss 9+'s at so many big hyped games that the review system is next to worthless.

That's the truth. You don't get anything meaningful from review "scores" nowadays--heck even from the reviews a good portion of the time. I don't think I've used gaming sites like IGN (or whatever it might be now) for nearly a decade.

How usefull is a headset in coop? I never got around to purchasing once since I'm not heavily into mmo's/squad based shooters.

Two questions: Will the retail game (the Beta didn't) contain 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound? Will the retail game contain voice-chat?

I'm pretty sure I heard sounds coming from behind me (my rear surround speakers) when I was playing Diablo III. I might not be remembering correctly though.

Demon Hunter is tempting me away from my Witch Doctor...

Not sure which Evil Fighter I'm going to pick up first anymore 😀

Any time you play a co-op team game the ability to talk with your teammates is useful. How useful is up to you and your teammates. If you are doing random pickup groups, probably not all that useful.

I haven't heard anything about surround sound, it doesn't make much sense in a 3rd person isometric view, so I doubt it. Blizzard has specifically said that it will not include voice chat. I think their experience with that in WoW has made them gun shy on that topic.

Thanks; I just assumed that they would include it so now it makes the choice of buying a headset very easy.

I'm also getting pretty excided about the game even though I didn't pay much attention to it until a week or two ago. I also finally decided to go with a Monk for my first playthrough.

Anybody offer up any advice?

My ISP blocks torrents completely.
The blizzard downloader for my pre-sale is not downloading a thing.
Anybody able to get any http direct speed?
Suggestions?

Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

Most people will use things like Skype or Ventrilo while playing with friends.

I turned off peer-to-peer and it downloaded at full speed for me.

I just turned off the p2p option in the installer. This downloads it direct and goes plenty fast (I was getting about 35Mbps or so down out of the 105Mbps I had available).
