I'm waiting for xbox360 and ps3. Do you have any suggestion about that, expert? LOL

i'm confused, where did i profess to be an expert on sli or anything for that matter? i guarantee you this though, i'll take your system and get it running.

it's not our fault you can't get your system running. i'm glad you decided to get an asus so you can flounder about their forums complaining about their board that your ineptitude leaves useless.

you'd still be better off checking this out. before jumping to asus though.

cheese, i won't waste anytime with him. obviously he did something to his board and can't figure it out so he blames dfi. if he won't listen to people like sharp, and cpuz then he clearly is a hard headed fool that deserves what he gets. of course what he has is a crippled $2000 rig my sons p4 would thrash 😛

Actually I made a call this afternoon to dfi technical support USA and he told me it seems like a hardware problem and aksed me to rma it. So do you think you can do better job than them? I don't know why you have the courage to say you can figure it out given that you never use SLI. en... the less a man knows, the more courage he has to talk trash.

Its because everyone else has had very good luck and good service with them (I'm assuming by "them" you mean "DFI"). What exactly happened to you?

cheese, he can't get the sli figured out so is going around bashing dfi. read his threads at dfi.street.

xl80325, you said before you had it running for a couple weeks or were you just fighting with it for 2 weeks?

It worked well until last Friday. I think you don't know what I'm talking about. i think maybe I know much more about SLi configuration than you LOL
So that means you must have done something to your computer last friday. What did you do?

And like Rise said, I'd hope you know more about SLI then I do, seeing as I'm not using it and don't plan on using it in the future.

Have you tried reinstalling drivers or reinstalling XP?

I think people really should read before post. I've already exclude software problems.

How? What did you do to exclude them?

if you must know ,let me teach you how to exclude this kind of problem. Free of charge.
You can format a partion and disable the network. Install win xp pro including sp2, install nforce drivers, restart, install forceware drivers. or you can try first just install one card, after instal drivers, instal another card and use sli mode. understand? And remember to update bios and use the latest WHQL drivers.

brilliant, insult my 9 year old son now. thats a lot of class.

Cheesepoofs, just a quick question. Do you think the OCZ Modstream psu I have will be able to do a SLI setup and some OC? I'v read abit on the DFI street, but there seems to be a bit many opinions about it. I'd hate to know I'v bought a too small psu for a SLI setup. That would be a good $185 out the window in that case.

//MrFlashy

the modstream is 185?

i think it would be tight. unless you mean the powerstream, which would be better but it depends on the nextgen cards if thats what you're thinking. if its 6800gts then the powerstream would be fine, the modtream not as fine but would work.[/quote]

Well thats the price I paid for it, here in norway. Just did a quick exchange, but it's expensive hence it's a bit irritating that it can't be used to my purpose.

i figured you must be overseas. i think it will work but i'm not sure how hungry the g70 are going to be, if n fact thats what you're considering. i know nv has listed some absurd # but until someone actually is running the things its hard to tell.

i'm know i have seen people at dfi.street oc'ing with the modstreams but i'm not sure if they were sli'd or 6600gts or 6800gts.

i think you'll be ok, time will tell i guess. i wouldn't go running out and upgrading the psu yet.

Mr.Flashy, I am in your same position right now. I have the same mobo (I can't remember what model it is but its the most expensive dfi sli nf4 board) I also have the 520w modstream psu and am wondering how it will handle SLI. I have 2 gf6800gt's at home waiting to go.

I just recieved the components today, but I have to finish up a flight plan from prescott AZ to Pheonix AZ (ambient temp 40 celcisus). So I wont get the system up and running untill tomorrow or friday. You'll hear more then.

hey I am sorry about double post again but this forum is a little bit confusing :S hehe no offence - I was looking at a Ginward GS 6800GT card and it really has giant cooling system...so I am a little bit sceptical about will it fit into the MBO with SLI?😕

i dunno how giant is giant but i know zalman vf700s fit in sli. zalmans site lists all the specs of the cooler.

Some really stupid questions:

I am running ocz gold ddr400 (2-2-2-5, yay!). I am running 1g 2x512mb. If it is single sided ram which dimms should I put them into. I am currently using 1 and 3 but someone has told be I should try using 2 and 4. Which one of these (if either) is correct?

Also. I am going to have to use one of the power adapters that came with my videocard. The adapter has a molex connecter (Male) with 3 pins (yellow brown black), the 6 pin pcie connector, then another 3 pin femal molex. I only need to plug in one of the molex to a cord from the psu right?

Finally. Is there any problem running a sata hdd of the legacy power? It is a 10k rpm drive so it may need more power. Don't know how critical this is.....

my understaning is you can/should use the yellow slots with the 5.10 bios for the vx. i don't know if there is a correct one as i run rev2 but it seems like most high volt users flocked to the yellow once it became an option.

i've never had to use one but i thought you needed to put 2 4 pin molexs in as the pci-e is a 6 pin- 3 ground and 3 12v. of course i never looked at it close enough to see one is male and one female. you may be better asking that in video.

Finally. Is there any problem running a sata hdd of the legacy power? It is a 10k rpm drive so it may need more power. Don't know how critical this is.....

if you mean using the 4 pin molex to power the raptor, yes i've done that but i currently use the sata plug.

And just let you know now these two 6800gt work perfectly on my a8n sli premium. Are you the one who think it's not a problem of the motherboard? You are really laughable and ignorant

Been installing everything tonight on a new DFI board and came to realize the manual that comes with it is HORRIBLE.

Problem #1: I have 2x512 PC3200 What slots are these supposed to go in? In bios boot it said if using 2 sticks use slots 2 and 4. If I put BOTH of my sticks in (matched) I get boot errors on RAM detect. 1 stick working fine in slot 2 right now.

Problem #2: I have a brand new MSI 6600GT PCI card. I THINK I have all the 6 different jumpers in the correct spots (default) with all of them covering the bottom pins in the sets. Correct? The 6600GT has no power connector on it but I see the DFI has 2; an HDD type and a FDD-type. Which do I use both? If I power on with the 6600Gt in the bios is and splash screen is totally unreadable, as if its not getting enough power. even with EVERYTHING unplugged. PSU a new(er) Antech SL400 400W

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, first off, which bios do you have?

the board has 4 power connectors, the 24 pin, the 4 pin atx, the 4 pin molex and the floppy one. use them all.

you have no power connector on the 6600gt? odd. my agp one did.

i didn't have to touch the sli jumpers, just leave them be.

yes the manual sux.

i dunno what to make of that last pic? check your bios first you should be on 3.10 at least.

yeah but I think that cooler on the Gainward 6800GT is bigger than the Zalman's one :S

Look at the last RAM slot and how its reporting...I only have 1 stick installed right now. With it showing that "yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" that doesnt encourage me.

This maybe the most retarded question I have ever asked on Anandtech, but where can I see what BIOS version I have? On every other BIOS boot I've had you see the screen where it shows RAM, CPU speed and the IDE devices detected, but I don't seem to see that on this DFI. I get that horribly gaudy splash screen then it jumps to the IRQ allocation screen as it goes through the boot devices. Edit: CPU-Z shows bios date of 1/25/2005 so I guess that's the first thing to update ASAP

This is the video card in question. As you can see it clearly has pin-outs for a FDD connector, but there is none.

Voltage per SmartGaurdian Doesn't the CPU seem AWFULLY low? Does Cool n Quiet lower voltage or just fan speed?

As I read more and more... could it be becuase Im using a 20pin to 24 pin PSU adapter?

well, the zalman is pretty tight, so if you can take their measurements and compare it to the gainwards you can see. but there isn't much room on the zalman.

i think you'll be all set with updated bios.

yes and you can disble that ridiculous splash screen in bios, i think advanced category down the bottom. then the bios shows in the bottom left of the first post screen.

This is the video card in question. As you can see it clearly has pin-outs for a FDD connector, but there is none.

are you talking about on the edge of the card, not the end? thats for sli. the power connector would be on the end and look like a 4 pin molex. i don't see one here.

Voltage per SmartGaurdian Doesn't the CPU seem AWFULLY low? Does Cool n Quiet lower voltage or just fan speed?

that could be wrong as your bios is old but mine under volts the vcore anyway so you're better off setting it yourself to like 1.4 + 104%. see what it reads in bios too.

As I read more and more... could it be becuase Im using a 20pin to 24 pin PSU adapter?

that certainly won't help.

oh and btw DO NOT USE ntune for any clocking. i don't even use nvmonitor really. use cpuz for reading and a64 tweaker or clockgen if you must but i just use bios.

are you talking about on the edge of the caard, not the end? thats for sli. the power connector would be on the end and look like a 4 pin molex. i don't see one here.

Yeah you can see that there is a spot for a FDD type power connector, but on this model it isn't need/included. Just a default board design Im sure.

that could be wrong as your bios is old but mine under volts the vcore anyway so you're better off setting it yourself to like 1.4 + 104%. see what it reads in bios too.

Yeah I'll flash first thing tonight. Seems that the newer bioses cleaned up a lot of RAM issues and better support for Venice cores so that makes sense to hopefully remedy those 2 issues.

Now if I have 2 sticks I'm supposed to put them in slots 2 & 4 correct? I thought those were teh 2 orange ones? But reading back in this mosnter thread I thought I saw that it was the yellow and orange JUST above the CPU? That doesnt seem right.

Edit: Oh I dont use Ntune for OCing... it was just for viewing purposes.
