"Official" DFI nF4 Ultra-D / SLI-DR Thread

I have 2 questions. I am setting up my DFI DR and wonder what the difference between the regular SATA and Silicon SATA controllers are. Also, what is the difference between LAN 1 and LAN 2. Why would you choose one over the other? Thank you.

The "regular" sata ports are controlled by the nforce4 chipset. I believe they are faster, only because they hook directly up to the chipset, and don't go through another chip first.

Difference between LAN1 and LAN2 is the same, but I dont' remember which is which.

I have both boards and with the Ultra 4D I was getting random reboots and since I updated to 5/10 bios I have had no more problems.

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D,
A64 4000 Clawhammer
MSI X800pro, Silent Boost Lapped
Maxtor 6Y120MO and 6Y160MO SATA HDs
Corsair 2x512-3200C2PT
Vantec 520 Stealth PSU

that proves what I was saying. The DFI board is not as stable as the A8N-SLI, and that's why virtually ALL THE PC BUILDERS USE THE A8N, like Voodoo, Alienware, Falcon, ABS, etc. Maybe this or that bios fix can "cure" some problems but overall the asus is just more reliable.

I have both boards too (ASUS a8n-sli and DFI lanparty ut sli-d) and the dfi is much much better, much much faster and much much more stable (in the right hands of course, the dfi is designed to be used by more experienced people in my opinion), I have winchester 3000+ and san diego 3700+ as well, the asus had numerous stability problems and asus also produced i bios one day that ruined the hardware monitoring chip on the board and even when flashing back to differentr bios, was far less stable, so we are talking shoddy board and shoddy bios updates for the asus, so who please explain to me again which is more stable the asus or the dfi board.

Also please try and post in the correct topic, this post is dedicated to dfi boards not Asus, aslo try to use that thing between your ears and not antagonise people and think before you post as you are more than likely to get flamed or put down severly by far more experienced people, just cause you have made many posts doesn't mean you actually know anything other than how to press the reply button!

Of course. This prooves the ASUS board is better because in one isolated case someone was getting random reboots that he has since fixed, meaning that the board is now perfectly stable.

The main reason all of those companies use the A8N is because ASUS is a huge company, so they can put out more boards, and at a lower price, than DFI can.

User1234, your sh1t is starting to get annoying... If you are not going to offer anything constructive to this thread, maybe you should consider sticking to the ASUS thread.

I ordered an Ultra-D and a 3200+ venice from Monarch this weekend and am really looking forward to it, thanks to everyone else who contributed to this thread and all the great info!

Dave

Exactly,

I really like my DFI board, I have a SLI bridge and I want to do the SLI mod to the chipset, when I do that I am going to change HSF to a XP90. I also have a Venice 3200 coming, I think I am going to replace my clawhammer with it. Not sure yet. To User1234, you knocked that I have Dual 6600GTs in my Asus and it seems you offer no constructive help only critisim.

Please ignore the "ignoramous", and enjoy your new DFI board. It is picky to setup, but with all the bios options if provides, it is an excellent "tweaking" board. I luv my Venice and DFI NF4 board. 🙂

post 14 shira.

you can also just browse about and check some user sigs, see what they got going.

also, their search function is pretty good.

The problem is, so few people use 2x1GB of memory, that it's difficult to come to a firm conclusion as to which brand is better than another for the DFI MB. I understand that 2x1GB will limit OC'ing potential, but I'm primarily worried about stability at stock settings.

No but if you go to DFI street and they have some beta bios to download, I am using 5/10-2 and it solved all my random reboots, which it apperars was a memory issue eventhough I have Corsair XMS PC3200C2PT in it.

Link to bios at DFI Street:

Thanks for the link.

In reading Oscar's description of what the beta bios does, it provides a BIOS option for specifying a slower value of max async latency, which Oscar says is needed for the "kind of value ram which [has a] reponse time [that] is not as good as high speed or low latency dram". Since the Patriot RAM I'm considering IS low-latency, perhaps that means it won't have stability problems.

sorry for the stupid question. but is there any big difference between the lanparty and UT? i know you get the frontX and sleeving kit in one. but is the UT missing any features?

Hi,

I am a newb and I just bought a DFI nF4 Ultra-D Refurb board from Newegg and a Venice 3200+. I was wondering where I could find a rear I/O panel for this board? Any suggestions on what I should look out for on a refurb?

Thanks,
Matt

go to dfi.street and there are two mods there who work at dfi, angry games and rgone. email one of them and i'm sure they'll drop one in the mail for you.

Nvidia Active Armor Install

When I double click on it the install process starts then I get a error that I must remove the previous version first so I say OK then I get this error?

"could not get old installer uninstallstring" and it quits.

Sure is frustrating
Anybody?
Thanks
Cowboy

can you uninstall it sepeartely, thru add/remove?

how'd you finally make out against that crook btw?

Nope it's not in add/remove programs.. MDofPC still owes me some money but not much. It was the most expensive scam they will ever pull as far as I'm concerned. They now have a issue thanks to all of you with google. When you search for them it leads you here 🙂 "MDofPC Online Fraud"

Thanks
Cowboy

i know, i hit it a few times 😛

i can't help you with the firewall as i don't use it. dfi.street could help you i'm sure.

Yes, there's many new beta bios's. They all make enhancements, but I don't know to what. xtremesystems.org has a list of them somewhere in their forums.
