yeah, i tried 420 * 5x for fun and it ran without a problem (with a /100 divider). have it at 315 * 8x and that seems to be a good speed for this chip (3000+).

one question though.. does it matter what lan you using... 1 or 2...

The review sites may have tested different ways (Anand's here), but they seem to show that the Marvel has less throughput but lower CPU usage. In my case, doing LAN gaming at home, lower CPU usage is more important than high throughput, 'cuz even "low" throughput on a GigE is still more than enough for gaming.

And, honestly, doing large file xfers, I can't say I notice any slowdown compared to the NF4 GigE (though I haven't timed it out).

sorry i didn't make this clear. right now, i have an asus a8n sli deluxe. i have 2 evga 6600gt pcie. the reason i'm selling the asus to get the dfi is because i'm an overclocker and the asus doesn't cut it for me. the dfi sli board is too expensive and i like to play around with hardware. The satisfaction of modding a 150$ board to run as a 220$ board is well worth it.

yeah, get a couple for me too. i'm good for it, i swear! 😉

on an interesting note. my temps had been running 33-36 idle and i really didnt think much of it. so i head off into the bios, after the flash to the 3/10 update. while there i adjust my voltages a little. left the vcore at 1.4, BUT i took the special vcore off of auto and set it at 104%. guess what, my temps drop! now i'm running 28-30 idle! raising my volts, lowered my temps! ccrazy i know! now i just want to know what that 'auto' really does on all those settings it's default on! 😉

The reason your temps dropped is because of the way the bios controls your fan speeds. It does it based on how hot (or cool) your temps are. I think at default settings, and this is just a for-instance because I'm at work and have a horrible memory, the chipset fan doesn't spin until the bios sees a certain temp (like 35 or 55 degrees celsius, I can't remember). Same thing with the cpu fan. I have a 120mm case fan plugged into the cpu fan plug and I noticed ambient temps in the case go up (I watercool). That's when I noticed the temps settings in the bios. I dropped them to their minimum and the 120mm fan spun all the time, which in turn allowed the ambient temp to drop to where it should be. Hope this helps.

none of the temp settings changed gov.

So you don't have the ability to change the temp threshold levels at which your fans will turn on and off? My are selectable down to 25 degrees celsius. I was finding that my fans were not spinning because the threshold level was to hot.

Shawn

Edit: It is under PC Health Status in the bios. I have the first setting disabled, then the next 10 or so temp threshold level settings are selectable. I set them all to 25 degrees and my overall temps dropped becasue the fans were running more often.

Actually, you were perfectly clear and I understood well (with the exception of the fact that you already had 2 6600GTs).

So, I will say again, if you fail your modding attempt, you cannot return/exchange the board. You have voided your warranty by doing this.

I realize funds are tight, but your "satisfaction" modding this board could very well result in a dissatisfaction if you break something you cannot fix as you will have blown $150.

So you gotta ask yourself, is it worth it to risk a $150 mobo? You paid good money to have that extra GT. Obviously you thought the improved performance was worth it. Why skimp out now? Especially if you're slightly concerned about modding it. I'm sure it's pretty easy. But, yes, if you fail, you won't be able to return it.

Does this new BIOS revision fix the problems with Kingston Hyperx ram?

nope. Here's what happens:

Right after flashing and clearing the CMOS I was able to boot fine with my HyperX. So I hit load optimized defaults, rebooted, and it gives me 2 long beeps, 1 short then boots again. With the 1/25 bios it would give me repeated long beeps, and with 2/18 I got 2 long beeps, then 1 short and it booted, but I couldn't start windows. All this is solved by setting ram to 180mhz (9/10 divider). I cleared CMOS, and it works fine until I change my settings again.

So anyways, I did some experimenting, and found out that I can boot fine with the ram at 200mhz until I hit save and exit. Doesn't matter if I have changed nothing, if I go into the bios and the first thing I do is hit save and exit, then I get the two long beeps and 1 short, then boot. I can, however, go into bios, and hit exit without saving and it will still boot. Once again 180mhz fixes all.

This whole thing is bugging me, anyone have any ideas?

Hey,
I can't get my system running? It starts to load then reboots.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I did what you told me to do.. Took out one of the 1gig dimms?

Man I'm having a hard time here.. your help really means allot to me ..

Thanks

glad i could help. what i meant by slot 2 was the top orange ram slot. anything else, i'll be glad to TRY to help. i havent done much troubleshooting as my stuff ran just fine from the first boot. i have read ALOT of other peoples problems though.

Ok,
I'll try and chill.. I've been at this all day and am kinda hyper right now.

I put the other dimm in and I get a blue screen.
Also it keeps thryin to install the ethernet thingy and errors out.

Thanks

first thing you need to do is get it booted up so you can flash to the newest bios. that SHOULD fix alot of your problems. what does the rest of your setup look like?

Hmm,
The only thing that isn't installing is the ethernet controller.
If I put in the other dimm all I get is a blue screen.
Sorry if I'm not answering your question? I'm somewhat lost here.
I can't connect to the internet with it and the laptop I'm on doesn't have a floppy drive.
My old computer blew up and it looks like it took out both my hard drives. If I can access one I could recover everything.
Also I get a icon in the tray for safely removing the sata? WD Rapture? It's the only hard drive installed?

Thanks

Yee Haa .. on the web and doing the bios update.
Thanks Allot !!!
Anybody know why the western digital Rapture on the sata is showing up in the tray as a removable storage?

Thanks
Thanks
Thanks

You da man !!!

i havent had a chance to play with the sata yet. though i'm considering buying some ide to sata adapters, to help clean up the inside of my case.

you're very welcome. everyone should be able to enjoy this fine piece of comp equipment. 😉
