Yes, the video card needs to be in the slot closer to the CPU, as that's your x16 slot if you're running single-card video (p66 of the online manual). There might be some way to change this in the BIOS (I mean, there's plenty of other things in the BIOS you can change), but if there is I haven't found it/seen it/heard of it.

And I do agree that it seems a really dumb placement for the chipset, especially as this is marketed as an enthusiasts board (which means that people would like to watercool the chipset, put a different HSF on, etc). However, that said, I have heard nothing bad about video cards being necessarily "in the way" there if you're using the stock HSF on the chipset. My fiancee has an XFX 6600GT, and there's maybe a milimeter clearance, but there's still a bit of a gap. If the card is physically touching the shroud, I would make sure that the card is fully seated and that your case is not artificially angling the card differently at all.

I am using the stock HSF, and the board does not appear to be bend. The card also seems fully locked down, but then again, as I said, the outer end of the card is hitting the HSF outer casing around the fan, so I can't push it down any further. There does seem to be a little room between the fan itself, and the card hanging over it, but the end of the card itself is defanitley touching the HSF casing.

Nothing I can really do, when I boot up tomorrow after the power supply comes, I'll just cross my fingers that the fan spins and nothing is hitting it, cause as for the card touching the HSF, there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it.

My power supply hasn't arrived yet so I can't set everything up, but I was wondering how well my video card (Leadtek 6600GT) would fit with the chipset fan, so I put it in. The video card touches the silver casing around the fan, and the end of the card is over the fan, although it does not look to be touching it.

Anyone else have an Ultra-D and a Leadtek 6600GT? Any problems, what did you do?

i have that exact combo. no problems at all. everything runs smooth, stable, and quite. couldnt be happier. well, i could if i had an 6800 ultra or a x850xt! 😉 cant wait to get my xp-120 in!

same here. It is very close to touching the chipset fan but there is still like couple mm of space so it is fine. Chipset fan is very quiet so there is no reason to replace it. I hope it'll hold up in the long run coz it's gonna be hard to replace.

I'd like an 6800U or X850XT as well, but at what cost! How about X800XL for under $300? Just got one at Fry's. Now I don't have to worry about whether my Ultra board is upgradeable to SLI anymore coz X800XL will be all that i need for quite a while.

Anyone using the nTune software? I can't get some of the adjustments to actually set.

it only stays at those settings till you reboot. then they reset.

I've tried runing the auto tune for quiet and it seems to just keep running and running. (for well over 20 minutes) and trying the system performance it locked up near the end. Can you acutally get it to auto tune?

no, i havent tried the auto tune. just adjusting the htt and ram timings.

I've been having problems with my XFX video card. It may be a power problem, but it seems more related to the BIOS. Whenever I install a new program and reboot, the video display reverts to 4 bit color. It cannot be corrected unless I install the driver from the DFI installation disk. Installing the NVIDIA drivers from the web doesn't fix it. Any clues?

DFI NF4 Ultra-D with 1/25/05 BIOS
AMD 3500+ Winchester
Logisys Dracula Case with Powerlab 480 P/S
XFX 6800 Ultra Video Card
512x2 Corsair XMS 3200 XL Memory 2-2-2-7-1T
NEC 3520A DVD/RW
Samsung DVD Rom
Hitachi 80GB SATA 7200

I'm running with an antec 380S, and my heatsink isn't touching. However... it is actually the loudest fan in my sonata case!! all my other stuff runs <3000 rpm, so yeah.. I've been able to overclock from 1.8 to 2.17, haven't had time to experiment further. So far, no issues whatsoever, unless you count failing memtest when cas autoed to two instead of the 2.5 it should've been at. I'm pretty satisfied..

Yeah, I am, works fine. I tried oc my video card through it, it was fine, I went back to stock though, I will overclock in a few months, just want everything stock for a few months until I do 🙂.

just ordered a ultra-D once i got word that ATI shipped my x800 xl. I got a modstream and a 3200+ to go along with it. I'm going to start out with some corsair value and possibly upgrade once they get a few more of the performance memory to work.

my question is if you buy the ultra model and 2 6600 gts where i can get the SLI BRIDGE? because this is really my actual case and i can't find any site to buy it.

I am having severe problems with this board. Memtest gives me an error every 2 tests, Prime95 fails sometimes, and other times the computer just resets. When the hell is DFI gonna release an official BIOS with RAM fixes? I have my VS running at 2.9 right now, and it's STILL wonky. Goddamn, this is the very reason I chose DFI over other boards!

Value Select has been kinda iffy on this board with some people. My dad had to install XP with only 1 stick. I had no such problems, yet, all of a sudden, had THOUSANDS of Memtest errors in my Value Select. Just RMA'd it back to Newegg after trying every BIOS setting known to man.

Do you have a digital cam? If so, go into the BIOS and take some screenshots of the DRAM and GENIE BIOS pages (scroll down and take another shot to make sure you get all the settings) and post them somewhere so we can see them.

If you can't, just type them all here. There may be a few that are off... or you may have to RMA like I did.

edit: oh, and make sure you perform Memtest on each stick INDIVIDUALLY in slot #2 (the orange farthest from the CPU).

I'm pretty sure the RAM isn't defective, because I had it running through 26 passes with no errors. Actually, I'm not sure that it isn't working, because I accidentally had the voltage at 2.6, and I'll have to correct the async latency too, but my main problem is Prime keeps causing reboots. But even when Prime cleared 4 hours and memtest was stable, it STILL crashed randomly, sometimes in 3dmark, sometimes after installing games...I can't get the problem narrowed down. DFI needs to get off their asses and release an updated BIOS that doesn't blow hardcore.

I was going by you saying:

So, is Memtest giving you errors or not? At first, when I built 2 weeks ago, Memtest passed with flying colors with my Value Select. This weekend, I had 3000 errors in 1 fukcing pass with a single stick (the other stick had 30).

Yes, update the BIOS, but I say again, post all of your settings on the DRAM and GENIE pages of the BIOS so we can see if there's anything we can come up with to help. The fact remains that many other people have a working DFI NF4 board with that same RAM, using any one of the given BIOSes (official and beta). So we can get you working... as long as your RAM isn't whacked.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Memtest gives me ONE (1) error roughly every two (2) tests (based on a 32 pass run that yielded 16 errors). The amount of errors leads me to a motherboard problem, rather than a bad module. Anyway, I won't be able to take a look at my BIOS till tomorrow, because that's when I'll be back home. I'm gonna try the setting reccomended at DFI-street first, though.

just dont be cheap when selecting ram and you wont have a problem. i spent the most money, on this build, on my ram. i got a gig of gskill F1-3200DSU2-1GBLC and it runs flawlessly. running at 2-2-2-5-1t at ddr400. couldnt be more stable. no issues what-so-ever.
