Yes, the video card needs to be in the slot closer to the CPU, as that's your x16 slot if you're running single-card video (p66 of the online manual). There might be some way to change this in the BIOS (I mean, there's plenty of other things in the BIOS you can change), but if there is I haven't found it/seen it/heard of it.Originally posted by: essential
Does it matter if the video card is in PCIE 1 or PCIE4 slot? If the card is in the PCIE4 slot, the card still would be touching the silver casing around the fan, but would not be over the fan itself.
And I do agree that it seems a really dumb placement for the chipset, especially as this is marketed as an enthusiasts board (which means that people would like to watercool the chipset, put a different HSF on, etc). However, that said, I have heard nothing bad about video cards being necessarily "in the way" there if you're using the stock HSF on the chipset. My fiancee has an XFX 6600GT, and there's maybe a milimeter clearance, but there's still a bit of a gap. If the card is physically touching the shroud, I would make sure that the card is fully seated and that your case is not artificially angling the card differently at all.
