well, i just got mine in last night and it installed and is running perfectly. not a single hiccup during install or testing. i am using a gig of g.skill lc, an athena 500w ps. everything is smooth and stable. newegg messed up and sent the xp-90 instead of the xp120 i ordered though, so i'm waiting to oc till i get the xp-120.

anyone know if you can still mod these to full sli?

ahh, here's a screen of the mobo info from cpu-z. i'm sure that will help out alot in the ultra to sli question

I was just wondering, this mobo comes with:

"Vitesse VSC8201 Gigabit Phy & Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit PCI"

What is the difference? If you are just going to be using one of these two too go on the Internet which should you be using? Is there a benefit of one over the other?

I can't actually answer your question except to say that i use the gigabyte on to connect to my (school) and i use the marvell with a 3' cable to connect directly to another computer for super-fast transfers between the two.

I'm having a slight problem, that may or may not be due to this motherboard. I built a new system recently with the Chaintech VNF4, and then the DFI came out a week later, so I got that instead and switched to it (reformatting completely afterwards). All my drivers are installed and such, but I seem to be getting a significantly worse score in 3dmark then I did a day before with the previous motherboard, especially on the CPU test. I'm not sure what the problem could be.. Also, what's wierd is that the processor says 2411 now and the fsb says 201, as compared to 2412/200 with the chaintech. I'm not sure whether this is related or not.

Here's the 3dmark compare page: http://transmogrified.net/compare.htm

This kind of makes me want to switch my decision to a VNF4. I haven't bought a motherboard yet, and I was swaying between this, the MSI and the chaintech.

Could someone help me out with the 5vsb jumpers? Are they just for standby waking operation or do they need to be on 5vsb for usb to work?

USB works without them, but, for me, the motherboard would decide to not give my USB keyboard every few boots. Setting the jumper to 5vsb seems to have fixed that.

One is provided through the nforce 4 chipset, the other is through a seperate chip. Both should be equally fast.

HOLY CRAP THE SOUND QUALITY IS HORRID!
This is unbearable, my AC'97 on my Soltek FRN 75 L was much better...
Anyone having issuses?

I had some issues when I hooked up my case front mic & headphone jacks to the Karajan modual. If I didn't have my mic pluged in the sound was staticy and distorted and but if I pluged in in it was fine. Now, for some reason this issue went away. I'm not sure what happend. Maybe something was just shorting somwhere.

Have you hooked up front pannel inputs or messed with the jumpers on the Karajan any?

anyone know if you can still mod these to full sli?
Only way to find out if to take off the chipset cooler and see if the "jumper" is still there that you are supposed to close. (see the anandtech article on the mod) I don't know what nvidia was going to do to get rid of the modability of that chip.

I think the HardOCP review says they Marvell is slightly faster and uses slightly less CPU. I may have read that somewhere else though.

Looking at the backplane of the motherboard, which nic is Vitesse VSC8201 Gigabit Phy & Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit PCI ?

Which one is on the left/right ?

Thanks,
Jose

Not sure, I just installed the nforce 4 sound drivers and I believe they are the reason TS crashes me. However, that is the only thing that seems to crash me, nothing else, so I'd say if you can't live without Teamspeak, go with realtek, if you can, nvidia nvmixer.

The reason I ask is that I only installed the realtek drivers, but window's update wants me to download an update to my nvidia sound drivers (which I didn't install). I'm afraid this will mess with my sound so I haven't installed it.

i didnt really want to remove the chip-sink without a good reason. was wondering if there were another way to tell.

Unless some one has a better idea, I'd say looking at it is the only way, unless they've changed the revision number of the board or something. What revision do you have? It's on a sticker on the bottom pci slot. (not the top pcie slot which also has a sticker) It's a pain to see if you've already got it in the case.

I should have my DFI borad tommorrow with the new video card. Hopefully I will have the processor and the power supply tuesday or wensday so I can get this rig going.

John,

I did the same and one of the nic's is disabled/unrecognized. I'm guessing it's the marvel one. Where do you get the marvel nic driver ?

Regards,
Jose

The Marvell driver was on the install disc that came with the board. When it runs, click on Networking and it should be under there. The one for the nVidia NIC you install with the chipset drivers (you don't have to install it, but thats where/when it installs).

I just got my DFI Ultra-D in today. My power supply hasn't arrived yet so I can't set everything up, but I was wondering how well my video card (Leadtek 6600GT) would fit with the chipset fan, so I put it in. The video card touches the silver casing around the fan, and the end of the card is over the fan, although it does not look to be touching it.

Does it matter if the video card is in PCIE 1 or PCIE4 slot? If the card is in the PCIE4 slot, the card still would be touching the silver casing around the fan, but would not be over the fan itself.

Anyone else have an Ultra-D and a Leadtek 6600GT? Any problems, what did you do?

What kind of HSF? I have a 3200 retail w/fan and 6600 GT on the way so I'm concerned about this as well. Did you have any bent pins or anything when you received it?
