"Official" DFI nF4 Ultra-D / SLI-DR Thread

So, the Zalman 7000b fits, but a PCI Ex card doesn't? huh? The first post doesn't make a huge amount of sense.
 
It's likely that i'm doing something wrong, but i'm not having much luck overclocking my cpu so far. Here are my specs:

Dfi nF4 Ultra-D
3000+ with xp-90
Raid 0: Two ata 160gb seagates.
Twinmos 2x512ddr pc-3200 (winbond utt)
SB audigy 2zs
msi 6600gt

The system boots and works fine at 210mhz bus speed. But when I try 220mhz, it freezes (it just keeps restarting, windows never loads). Even when I set the ram multiplier to 3/4, and turn cpu voltage to 1.6 (up from about a 1.35 or maybe 1.4 voltage default) windows doesn't boot (it gives me a variety of error messages about corrupted/missing files or it keeps restarting--maybe my raid is failing to work at these higher speeds?). Maybe I need to set the LDT/FSB frequency ratio lower? What exactly is this setting?

i've a got a few simple questions about the SLI mobos since i'm new to this, though i did a decent amount of reading on it but just to be sure i'd like to make a few things pretty clear..

firstly.. do all SLI mobos need 2 gfx cards to start with or can 1 gfx card be enough and do as well till i buy a 2nd gfx card later on in a year or so?..

secondly.. in the SLI mobos do both the gfx cards have to be exactly identical to eachother or they can be different?.. like can a 6600GT run with a 6800 in a SLI based setup together or it has to be either both 6600Gts or the 6800s?.. n also belong to the same companies like MSI, leadtek,etc?..

thirdly.. how is gigabyte's GA-K8NXP-SLI mobo?.. does it have any known issues with it?..

I got my DFI, everything fine, temps are very low, but the floppy drive doesnt work. I connected it to the connector on the board facing away from you, if you know what I mean. I don't know what can be the problem, the floppy light is always on but it doesn't recognize disks.
 
First POST into BIOS(1-25)=ok. When I boot to CD to load XP it won't go past "setup is inspecting hardware". CD light goes out & nothing else happens. I'm not running RAID but do I need to boot to the DFI floppy first to install SATA & or chipset drivers?
 
try the 201 bios. I think it's linked some where in this thread. I had the same problem with some Kingston HyperX. You shouldn't need the DFI raid floppy if not running RAID.

Thanks doc, I think it's not seeing my hard drive. I have it in SATA 1 which shows blank instead of none like the others. Shouldn't it be listing the drive name there? SATA 3 = same thing, when I go to auto detect drive BIOS hangs.
Finally got HDD recognized & get into XP setup (after disabling on board USB) but now it hangs at the licence page. I've tried 1 stick & at CAS2.5, disabling SSE/2,IRDA,serial port, AC97, 1394 etc. I hate to have to flash to a beta BIOS just to load the OS, what kind of crap is that? If that doesn't work then DFI is off the hook for an RMA(which is what they probably have planned). I'm starting to think I should've bought the Asus, at least they have a decent web site & support.

'v run into a problem i'd not even considered. The PCB of the sound module is pretty tall and my 120mm fan on my Cooler master centurion 5 interferes with it. Is it safe to cut away at the frame of the fan to make it fit? Everything else is looking good, I have a Zalman 7000alcu installed and it fits.

TJmoney, I know you said you were able to install the fan in the Centurion 5 a little crooked. I bought this board and and am shopping for a case. I had decided on the Centurion 5 before reading your comment. Would you say this board is workable with this case? Is is possible to modify the fan at all and still install it correctly? Or would you suggest getting a different case?

I believe I have only seen 1 post about purchasing the bundle over at Monarch. Is this not a good deal?

I'm tempted to go with the Ultra D, 3200 90nm (939) Retail w/ Fan, and their thermal grease and it comes out to $354.00. I was also leaning towards the Corsair but after just reading these 20+ pages I'm hesitant now. What RAM would you recommend?

I'm also concerned about the temps. Is anyone running the retail fan? If so please post your temps.

I've been meaning to get Far Cry & HL2, but never had the system to run them., so this is even better to me personally.


EDIT: Also I have the Thermaltake Silent PurePower 420W Dual Fan ATX PSU ,how would I tell how many pins it is w/o opening the case?

Count the number of connectors on the main board power plug, you'll see that particular power supply has 20 pins. I have that exact same PS in my old computer and it works fine as long as you don't try to use a 24 pin adapter or do any serious overclocking... meaning dont use it with any board that has a 24 pin power plug like the DFI NF4
 
This question should be pretty basic and easily answerable. If i'm flashing my DFI nf4 ultra-d bios (to the 2/17 beta bios) using WinFlash, what parts do i want to update? BootBlock, MainBlock or DMI Area. All?
 
I just got my Ultra-D set up and I'll try to answer some questions about it.
Yes, the Zalman 7700 does fit. Put your RAM in first.
Corsair Value Select memory worked fine with factory settings (I have 2 512MB sticks in memory slots 2 and 4).
Standard PCI video cards work with the mobo (I'm using a Voodoo 3 until my new card arives).
Using a #2 pencil to close the "SLI pads" seems to have changed the board into the SLI (according to the BIOS boot screen anyway).
