Is it possible to put the xp-90 on backwards, lol? Although all my parts aren't here yet, I tried putting it on the mobo (without the processor). The way I have it set up, it hangs over the pci-ports (and comes very close to my pci-express video card. Is that wrong? Is it supposed to hang over the RAM slots, like shown in this guy's pictures?

Also. the DFI motherboard has 4 different types of power plugs. The main 24 pin ATX power connection, a 4-pin ATX 12V power connector, and two 4-pin 5V/12V power connectors (FDD-type and HDD type). Which of these (besides the obvious 24 pin) should I connect to my power supply?

With default settings I needed 2.8 to run stable. I changed the Max async latency setting to 8ns. I saw in a post at dfistreet that it should be set to 6 normally, 7 if overclocking, and I decided to be a little more conservative. Also I manually set my cpu mult to 10X, and TRAS to 8, fsb to 200. I'v been prime95ing for around 10 mins now, so its definately not completely unstable. Looks like I got my memory problems partially under control.

Try running memtest to test the memory, it can detect memory errors better than prime can.

Yeah report back and let us know. Its really gonna suck if the Corsair doesnt work good on this board as I hate to buy more memory.

I'm running right now with the ram at 216mhz, 2.6V (240 fsb 9:10 ratio). I ran it through 1 pass of memtest, then bootstrapped gentoo which is very sensative to memory errors (it was failing before when memtest woulden't find any errors til the 10th or so pass). So yea, my ram is looking good now. It will boot at 225mhz 2.8v, though I didn't test it at that.

Quick system temp check:

CPU:
36 - 40 Operating Temp
System:
40 - 50 Operating Temp
Chipset:
45 - 55 Operating Temp

When using nTune, if the overtemp alarm is check the system ALWAYS beeps. Cant figure out whats doing this.

While gaming, (CS:S) the mobo speaker beeps once.

CAnt figure out whats causing either of these... do these Operating temperatures look ok?

The thot plickens, I received this today from Leadtek:

Dear Customer,

We will redesign the heatsink in the Q'2 but this product has passed the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard that you can think about it.

Thanks!

Today, another message from Leadtek:

Dear Customer,

If you do not use SLI function that graphics card is ok.
We suggest you buy such as ASUS,MSI and GIGABYTE manufacturers in next time.

Thanks!

Translating slightly it seems Leadtek thinks their 6800GT is only incompatible with DFI:frown:

1) Do you know how to enable the NCQ?

2) What do I need in order to enable Cool "n" Quiet? The AMD drivers + DFI ulitlity???

For references sake I'll list my successful setup:

Up and running out-of-the-box, despite having to rebuild the smashed reset and power switches (both of which work, thankfully).

Ultra-D
Athlon 64 3200
XP-90 (hanging over the memory in slots 2&4)
Corsair XMS3500 512 x2
MSI 6600GT
ENERMAX Whisper II 2.0 SLI 535W Power supply, Model "EG565P-VE FMA2.0 SLI"

Just for a test it even booted into my old Windows installation, which was on a A7N8X.

All four. The FDD and HDD connectors, according to the manual, help provide additional stability (especially when using 2 video cards). Extra stability is always a good thing.

I think you have to enable NCQ through Windows, I don't think it has anything to do with the motherboard itself. Not sure how to do this though, and I could be wrong.

If you're gonna overclock, do not enable Cool 'n Quiet.

That doesn't look close at all to me. I believe you can install the xp 90 backwards though.

I'm new at overclocking and i had some problems last night (look at my sig)

I was trying to OC the CPU alone by using divider. I tried with a 5/6 ratio and FSB of 240 first. I tweaked with CPU voltage a bit and system wouldn't boot. Then I went less aggressive with 9/10 ratio and FSB at 225. It still wouldn't boot. Finally I gave up and set everything back to default. Next thing I knew the system could not detect my two SATA HDD. Fortunately after I completely shut off the system the SATA HDD showed up again.

Anyone with success in OC can help? I'm a little overwhelmed all those tweaking options

p.s. Default CPU voltage was 1.38. I changed it up to 1.5v. is it too low? I was kind of afraid. I left everything in default/auto except the ram/fsb ratio.

First off ... the more aggressive memory ratio is actually 9/10, not 5/6. 9/10 will make your memory run faster than 5/6 would.

Often, the bios misreads voltages, because it only gets to look at them after they have gone through many chips and capacitors, so it most likely shows up as being lower than it actually is. As long as its stable, its fine.

For mooncancook's actual settings, the two end up being almost the same:

240*5/6 = 200 memory frequency

225*9/10 = 202.5 memory frequency

Yeah I tried to keep memory at stock 200 to take the memory out of the equation. Changing the ratio seems the only way to keep ram at 200 while lowering FSB from 240 to 225 for a less aggrassive CPU clock. Any suggestion for what i should try?

I misunderstood you ... i thought you were thinking the ratio of 5/6 would run the ram faster than 9/10.

Have you run prime95 on the system at stock settings? If you havn't, i'd definately recomend running it.

Try putting the memory ratio to 1/2 and see if you can OC any higher. If you can OC with those settings, your ram could be bad. Run memtest to check it.

1) use the nvidia SW drivers on your cd

2) enable in bios + get the cool n quiet drivers (from amd?)

I'm wondering if one of the "auto" settings that I don't know what they are defaults to a too aggressive value. I'l going to look into this and set some conservative settings to see if I can get to run a lower voltage. My value select is really confusing me because is actually won't run at 3-4-4-8, but will run at 2.5-3-3-8, which makes no sense at all. Somthing else is going on.

Okay, this thread is so long now I can't find the original reference to Corsair memory issues. What is the original problem? I'm running Corsair PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select 2x512MB right now on the DFI (slots 2&4), with all auto settings in BIOS (I have no idea how to tweak those settings, so I'm leaving them alone for now), but have yet to encounter any problems. Can someone clue me in?

Just got my Ultra-D.. Flashed the 209 beta bios, but I hit the wall at 247MHz with 4X multi.. The same CPU (3200+) and memory (2x512Mb GeiL Ultra Platinum DDR500) ran happily in the Asus A8N-SLI @ 250MHz with 5X multi.. BTW, just to let You know - inserting an SB Live kills the A8N-SLI :p

Any help/idea is welcomed.

P.S: memtest86+ v1.51 released, it detects the chipset right.

I have had no issues either with the same RAM on the SLI-D. However, I was talking my dad through the setup last night and he has the same RAM and the Ultra-D. He could only install Windows with 1 stick. After install, everything functions perfect with both sticks. No errors in memtest.

I think the problems are hit and miss. Another person with Corsair Value could not boot with anything less than 2.8v on the ram. He made a change to a memory timing and then it was perfect at 2.6v.

Got my PSU Wed., came Tue. but nobody home. According to PCP&C their 510sli is the only one reccomended by Nvidia so they are swampped with orders. Got it assembled on the bench but won't get a chance to try POSTing till friday or saturday. Anyone using a metal backing plate should watch the opening to make sure it clears all the little resistors or whatever they are on the back of the board. I had to do a little carving on the Swiftech for that reason.
