You might have to team up with one or two people then, what level are you at and what character/subclass are you using?

The captains are definitely a pain in the ass, if you get past the first wave to where the witches come out sit back a bit and have the hive and fallen fight it out (the fallen eventually lose from my experience for the same reason you listed with the captains) the witches will damage the captains.

As far as legendaries go the vanguard sells a sniper rifle that does arc (epitaph 2261) but you need to be vanguard rank 3 and I believe it's 150 marks as well. It's a solid gun if you can afford it and is what I used for the weekly and nightfall with my Titan.

I'm trying to do the weekly heroic strike, but I think I don't have enough firepower to get through the yellow captains. I only have a blue lvl 20 sniper rifle and even getting head shots it takes too many shots before they run and hide for shields. Then if I try to go finish them off, I have to leave the safe spot and get owned. Videos show guys two shotting the captains in Nightfall and one shotting the normal guys. I only have the terrible Dr. Nope, so its useless.

Should I save marks for a legendary sniper and hand cannon to make this stuff easier? I'm just wondering if my gear is limiting me from doing the weekly strikes or if I need to man up. I've gone back to using a blue hand cannon because its better than the Dr. Nope.

With nightfall, there is arc burn, so the folks in those videos doing insane damage are probably using a 300/300 damage sniper with arc burn.

Weekly heroic won't see as big numbers since there is no arc burn.

But yeah you probably will need to team up with people for this week unless you can get better weapons.

I believe arc burn is active in the weekly as well.

You are correct. Weekly heroic modifiers are heroic and arc burn.

Oh it is? Hm, guess I missed it. Well I haven't done either yet, so haven't really paid attention much lol

Good to know.

With a maxed arc sniper rifle, yellow shielded captains go down in two shots, one to the shield and one to the head. Same for witches. Regular shielded captains are one shotted with a headshot.

Voidfang Vestments - Warlock chest
Mida Multi-tool - exotic scout rifle

I bought those and a few fusion rifle telemetry packs since I have over 50 coins to spend anyways. The chest should come in handy since i'm leveling up the voidwalker class currently.

Just a quick note on the telemetry packs from Xur: I did extensive google searching and couldn't get a definitive answer on whether a telemetry pack will affect the XP earned from bounties. After some testing just now, I can confirm that they do give a 25% boost to bounty XP. I used the following website to monitor weapon XP: http://destinystatus.com/

I turned in a 5k xp bounty with nightfall boost and XP increased 6,562. Then I used a machine gun telemetry and turned in another 5k xp bounty, and XP increased 8,203.

edit: These were iron banner bounties. I assume crucible and vanguard bounties aren't any different.

25% is pretty significant especially for exotic weapons which require 212,500 XP to fully max. D:

That's good to know especially since I bought it for the mythoclast but i've turned in bounties with them before just never really thought about it lol.

I'm level 25 right now. I'm nearly to rank 3 vanguard and have been maxing out my vanguard marks for the last three weeks. I've got an exotic chest piece, vanguard boots, and the rest lvl 20 blues. I think I may save for the vanguard hand cannon, but I also need a decent helm and gloves. I joined the raiding clan so hopefully I can get a raid in some time.

In my run the witches got owned by the captains. I'm using sunsinger as my subclass.

I took your advice and used an Arc fusion rifle (blue quality) and happened to have a legendary rocket launcher drop out of an engram that had Arc damage. I was able to three shot the captains with the fusion rifle and one shot them with the rocket launcher. I ended up taking my time and beat the entire strike without dying in about 35 mins. The longest fight was Septiks because I ran out of ammo a bunch and had to wait for an opening to dash out and collect.

How much harder is the nightfall version compared to the lvl 22 weekly strike?

The Nightfall is insanely harder and I'm not exaggerating either.

At level 25, I doubt you would be able to complete the Nightfall which is default at level 28, unless you had some maxed out weapons and controller skills.

If you had maxed out arc weapons (sniper mostly), then you could take your time again to kill mobs, but the 3 waves part would take you probably 45+ minutes since you'd have significant penalty to damage given and damage taken. And with nightfall, one team wipe (or death for a solo) means you go back to orbit.

You would probably need 2 higher level folks to carry you.

At level 28 I could solo nightfall with the right weapons. What I'm getting at with that comment is that someone who has the right weapons can carry a lower level person through pretty easily. It doesn't take more than one.

Maybe it was talked about earlier in the thread, but did anyone else have their glimmer reset to 0? Logged in today and was completely out.

What's the consensus on Multi-Tool? I unlocked the movement speed perk today and have it set to +2 agility. Even when I spec myself for speed (agility as high as it can go for warlock), it doesn't seem like much difference. Does anyone really notice it? I even tried running from place to place and timing how long it takes to get there with and without multi-tool and it was roughly half a second difference if that. Within margin of error I am sure. So anyway, is the difference that significant? I'd use it for farming and running public events etc if so. Otherwise I would just hold on to it and use VoC. Maybe it would be a more noticeable difference when I'm next to someone without it and we are both running to the same place. I dunno.

Not sure about your specific setup, but I know that there is a hard maximum for agility. If you are already there, or within one point, the difference will be negligible. I think the max might be 8 points.

Usually my agility is set to the lowest setting because I go for recovery and armor. I just can't say I notice a difference when using it.

Anyone pick up iron banner items? I got legs (which I needed) and arms (just to have). Needed another 200 points rep and a little glimmer for the scout rifle, but it was getting too late last night. IB was still up this morning so maybe I can do it after work today.

I'm hoping so because in all honesty I just didn't feel like grinding it out lol after completing Nightfall/Weekly 4 times and doing a few exotic bounties in crucible I was a little drained for PVP.

It's been kind of fun, surprisingly. Max level weapons absolutely wreck stuff lol. I've gotten enough chatterwhite, Armentarium copies, and shards to make it worth it for me, plus you get regular Crucible bounties/marks/rep out of it.

Bungie shows it ends today 11/24. What time, I don't know,

Most folks are assuming it'll end when they do the weekly tuesday maintenance. Makes sense.

I just need a few solid hours to get to rank 4. With tempered buff, shader, emblem and nightfall, should go fairly quickly.

I was going to focus on IB for the boots/gloves, but I think these will be quickly accessible once DB comes out.

Correct. There will be a new vendor with the DLC and people are assuming she will sell 30 light gear. Not sure what they'll cost or what kind of upgrade mats you'll need though.
