The President, or federal government for that matter, has no say in daylight saving time. It's a state issue.

And from what I recall, this whole DST was started by farmers who needed the extra light for their crops. Now that we have better crop technology, is DST even needed any longer?

DST has no affect on how much light crops get. How humans choose to measure time is of no concern to a corn or potato plant.

Bassyhead's link actually claims that farmers don't like DST.

I think the rumor was that back in the olden days when the kids had to go to school they needed time beforehand/afterwards to do their chores around the farm. So, the clocks were changed. It never really made sense to me, why not just change the school time instead of affecting everybody's lives.... but... that was the rumor I was told when I first questioned this arcane practice.

I'm pretty sure that's what he meant, but the way he phrased it...

That's more or less what I meant - the tending to the crops, not the crops themselves.

Agreed.

If people just woke up an hour earlier and went to work an hour earlier in the summer, it would have the same effect as DST.

This is one thing I like about Indiana.

What's really confusing though is the fact that I have to remember if I'm on Central or Eastern time

Your annoying thread title had me about to post an ****OFFICIAL****Fleshlight Buying Time Thread!****CONFIRMED**** parody thread but then I started to sober up.

I'm working that night, so I only have to work 7 hours but get paid for 8. I like the way this is going, until it gets to the part where my dumb ass coworkers inevitably will forget to set their clocks and I stay an extra hour. Nice thought though.

why not just move time 30 min and leave it that way, no need for DST then
Now this is a brilliant idea!
Personally, I'd like everyone to adopt the lunar calendar . . . that way we need an extra month every so often . . . I'd like an extra month.
