BTW are transparent images supposed to work? My avatar at a few other vB forums are transparent. Maybe because there was no resizing that borked it... I have to look into this more.

Worked just fine for me. Uploaded mine as a .png.

I just got myself one. I like it but I may need to find another as it seems a little small. Maybe one with a fuller picture.
 
For everyone who wants to use transparent avatars, your best bet is to edit (if necessary) and resize the image to 80 x 80 pixels or smaller first in Photoshop, GIMP, or whatever your preferred image editor is. Save the image as a PNG file and then upload to AT.
