Lowered expectations are the glue that keep these forums going. 😎

I know that this is going to be a headache for all of you to moderate. I think you've come up with some sensible rules. Clearcut rules that everyone should be able to follow. Although it's not here yet, I want to thank everyone that is making this happen. It's much appreciated.

Pfft, it took forever to switch to vB. This is just a ruse. You could string this along for another year and people will cling to the thread like tourists and their cameras.

Sorry gang, we have a capacity issue.

No good deed goes unpunished 😉

We're definitely on it, but we don't know how long this will take.

What about allowing custom avatars hosted somewhere else (if that's possible)? I'm not sure what vB is capable of, but I know one of the forums that I help admin gave the option of 'linking' to an avatar basically, and it didn't have to be uploaded to our servers.

Then someone uses a Goatse avatar and claims they just hotlinked an image and the image owner switched it.

I've seen other vb forums that allowed you to provide a link to an avatar, but all it did was copy the avatar to the forum server - it didn't actually hotlink to the avatar on another server.

Having the avatars stored on the AT server also means that it can resize images. It sucks visiting forums where some people like to use 1MB files as a avatars, simply because they saw a purdy picsher on some website and decided that they needed to show it to everyone somehow.

I must admit, I thought the locked list of avatars was better than custom avatars. I was just hoping the moderators would continually add to the locked list of avatars w/ more approved ones. To have it completely open... ugh, well before you say it, I already have avatars disabled so it doesn't bother me, just ensures I can never, ever enable them.

80x80? Are you freaking kidding? 100x100 is small and there's more than enough room with the rest of the garbage packed into the left-hand ID pane to warrant more than 80x80. Since AT won't be hosting the avatars, I don't see the problem with normal size avatars. It's not like AT's bandwidth is going to suffer or something.

This is what I want for an avatar, I made it expressly to use on AT:

*sniff* If you had told me back in 2001 that in a mere 8 years, ATOT would have the same avatar capability as every other message board in existence.... I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I just need a minute here... I'm so proud... 🙂
